On 5 September 2013, it was proposed that this article be moved from Jerry Butler (singer) to Jerry Butler. The result of the discussion was page moved. |
Accapella
I'm ignorant on this subject. I was under the impression that "accapella" means that there is strictly only singing, with no instrumental accompaniment. Yet, in this article, there is a reference of Curtis Mayfield playing the guitar in an accapella group. Would someone please clear this up? Thank you in advance. Slater79 11:10, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
Iceman
Not sure how to cite Cousin Brucie's live radio show on Sirius-XM on March 26, 2010, in which he stated that Butler told him about his name. Also have email from Cousin Brucie: "He told me himself it was because he used to carve ice." —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rsilbe (talk • contribs) 01:20, 1 April 2010 (UTC)
- The starting point is verifiability, then the usage of reliable, third party sources, followed by adherence to any pertinent conflict of interest advice, before exercising a neutral point of view. Assuming you understand and can follow these guidelines, you are free to proceed. Alternatively, you can follow what virtually everyone / many / most / some / only a few do (dependent upon whose version of the situation you believe), and type in any old rubbish and hope. See be bold and ignore all rules. However, you may well find the latter route is prone to seeing your precious input deleted within a relatively short time space, due to the various factors mentioned above.
- Or not - it's rather like life itself. Plenty of rules, and you'll obey most of them, maybe all of them, but ultimately you will possibly make a right arse of it at the critical moment. Your choice ultimately, but don't take the wrong path whatever you do. My hair fell out last week. Does this help ??!?
Requested move
- The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: moved this page as requested, and the DAB to Jerry Butler (disambiguation). —Darkwind (talk) 02:07, 29 September 2013 (UTC)
Jerry Butler (singer) → Jerry Butler – The singer is far more notable than any other Jerry Butler. Relisted. BDD (talk) 16:11, 18 September 2013 (UTC) GeicoHen (talk) 03:48, 5 September 2013 (UTC)
- Comment - can you please link to Google Books results and page view stats. Thanks. In ictu oculi (talk) 06:32, 5 September 2013 (UTC)
- Oppose he is only getting about 62% of the hits of the four entries at the dab. I.e., last 90 days singer-18383, American football-791, Ice hockey-339, pornographic actor-10098.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 12:06, 5 September 2013 (UTC)
- Support - Based on Tony's findings, out of all four Jerry Butlers, the singer is the primary topic, as he's "much more likely than any other topic, and more likely than all the other topics combined—to be the topic sought". The same holds true on Google Books, where he is also more than three times as common as the other three combined:
- "Jerry Butler"+singer: 9,570
- "Jerry Butler"+football: 1,300
- "Jerry Butler"+porn: 1,190
- "Jerry Butler"+hockey: 436
- Putting him at the base title removes a click for the majority of readers searching for a "Jerry Butler".--Cúchullain t/c 14:07, 6 September 2013 (UTC)
- Support per Cuchullain. And heck, if he's get 62% against two athletes and a pornographic actor, that's pretty impressive. He appears, on the evidence, to be "more likely than all the other topics combined" the person readers are looking for if they simply type in "Jerry Butler." --BDD (talk) 23:13, 25 September 2013 (UTC)
- Comment: Presumably the DAB would also move, to Talk:Jerry Butler (disambiguation). I have posted a heads-up at Talk:Jerry Butler#Requested move. So this really should have been a multi move request, and strictly we should relist, but I'd be comfortable with just moving both if there's a rough consensus here to do so, under WP:snowball and WP:IAR.
