Linear Zones

There is a comment about the zones in CoV being linear.

"Unlike City of Heroes, the zones in City of Villains run in a linear pattern; as your character levels higher, they progress to the next zone."

This line should be completely removed. Aside from the fact that Port Oaks follows Mercy Island and then goes to Cap Au Diable, this statement is untrue. The hero side of the game tends to direct you as you level to zones where you can get higher level missions and contacts, but it is not linear. City of Villains, in the same way, directs you (through the contacts) to new zones where higher level game play is provided, but it is not linear. On both sides, however, it is very possible to skip zones, or even to go back to a lower zone like Cap Au Diable or Kings Row when you are say level 35 to malefactor down and team with friends. The fact that there are far fewer zones on villains side makes this transition much easier therefore giving the illusion that it is a linear game, or at least more so than it's counterpart but it is in essence (aside from the number of zones) no different that hero side.

Here was another curious statement that followed the "linear" one:

"These zones also lack the "War Walls" to divide them, and require the use of ferries or helicopters to traverse between islands."

Though the "War Walls" (which were built as protection from the Rikti) are not there in the Rogue Isles, the same border stops exist. In each zone, there is a translucent wall at all borders that is impermeable by players. Also, the ferries and helicopters act in the same manner as the Green line and Yellow line railroad lines in City of Heroes. Villain side does not, however, have the road tunnels that can take you from one zone directly to another. This small section makes it sound as though there is a vast difference in the game play from hero side to villain side, and should be addressed. I am not a Wikipedia editor, but I do take the time to comment on issues that I have knowledge of. This line could read

"The zones in City of Villains lack "War Walls" that are in the hero zones, but are bordered by a similar translucent wall. Additionally, similar to the Green Line and the Yellow Line, the "Rogue Island Ferry" and "Black Helicopter Line" are used to travel between the Isles. There are, however, no zone to zone paths like those found at the borders of many hero zones."

Thanks to anyone taking the time to consider my comments. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.217.173.120 (talk) 01:56, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Villain groups

I removed the list of villain groups from the article. There's a new article at City_of_Heroes_Villainous_Organizations that looks like a good place to put villain group info, because CoV and CoH share so many villains JZig 10:46, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

New Information

I know I'm not the only one who's in the CoV Beta. The NDA got lifted last week, so you can feel free to add info from the beta if it's not likely to change. In particular, someone should fill out the primaries and secondaries of all the archetypes. I'd do it, but I'm lazy :) 10:24, 17 October 2005 (UTC)

Villain vs Villain?

Thanks to Wahooker for the copyediting, however I do have one question: Can you give a source to the info that Villains can raid other Villains lairs? I can't recall any news on Villain vs Villain gameplay in any way, and I'm curious about it. RoToRa 6 July 2005 08:27 (UTC)

One of the Devs on the message board said that, But I doubt I could find the link right now. (Actually, since the COH site is blocked at work for me, I can't even look for it at the moment.) --WAHooker July 6, 2005 12:58 (UTC)

there is an article in one of the computer game magazines (CGW i think, not sure) about this and you can fight villians in combat and i believe villian V villian raids were also mentioned it there.

Need CoH to Play?

Just wondering, since this is labeled expansion but is almost a seperate side of the original game, do you have to have the original CoH to play CoV? Expansions in the traditional sense to need the originals but this is somewhat different.

No. As it says in the article: CoV is both a stand-alone game and an expansion. You don't need CoH to play it - in that case you only can play a villain and not a hero. RoToRa 22:41, 16 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, i guess i just overlooked the text or misread when i posted that. oh well, i dont mind playin as the bad guys only since being evil in games is so much more fun than being the good guys. thx for clearin that up. -Tik

Proposed section move

It's been discussed before at Talk:City of Heroes characters, but this time I'm ready to do it. "It" is move the bulk of the Archetype section from this article over to City of Heroes characters, making that article a joint one for both games. The move will not be clean at first, given the different formats of the sections between here and there, but things will smooth out over time. IMHO this is a needed move. Several other CoH titled articles are actually articles for both games, and over time both this article and the Characters one will benefit from having the info over there, with just a link left here.

Anyway, this is notice that I plan to do this, baring any major objections raised here in the next couple of days. If no objections are raised, I'll do this before the end of the week. - TexasAndroid 19:30, 14 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I will gladly assist in the move/transition. Just leave a note on my talk page saying when you do it. Ryulong 02:15, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Subscription fees

Each country should be listed alphabetically, England, euro, then US.

I disagree. It should be listed in order of release in the country. It was in the US first, and then they expanded to the UK and then the EU. Ryūlóng 20:43, 7 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Primary Power Sets

Can we only have one power set, or can we have more?--Kingdom hearts llll 00:30, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Only one. I think you'd be better off asking questions at the CoH forums though. We only put information about it. They will help you out.—Ryūlóng () 03:55, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'd like to comment that once your powers are chosen, it is not without difficulty to unpick them and chose others. However at the beginning of your character's "life" you are given the choice among several primary and secondary pwer sets. These being locked in with your characters name and appearance. There are more powers in each set than you will probably choose for your character (or "toon"). Also there are several other power pools to choose from regardless of archetype, like flying, superspeed, healing, etc.

These are covered elsewhere.—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 21:12, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New Features

Are the new feartures which are described in the article ONLY for City of Villians. If they are not I think that there should be a footnote saying that City of Heroes recieved Ragdoll Physics, Newspaper system ect.

Tylea002 10:18, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, then you can put that in yourself.—Ryūlóng (竜龍) 20:37, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Possible Merge?

I'm not campaigning for this or anything, just curious what others thoughts are on the subject. City of Villains and City of Heroes have the same features (even more so with Going Rogue out, any villan past level 20 can hop sides to heroes and vice versa)... would merging City of Villains with City of Heroes be reasonable at this point? 209.180.155.12 (talk) 05:29, 6 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

City of Villains was a stand alone game at one point. That's why this article exists.—Ryūlóng (竜龙) 06:20, 6 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
