This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Cremastra (talk | contribs) at 01:26, 8 May 2024 (→‎Joanne McCarthy (basketball): Reply). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.

  • Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
  • Offer a correction if possible.
  • References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
  • Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 11:12 on 31 July 2024) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
  • Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
  • Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems because this is not a talk page. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
  • No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
  • Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
  • Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed or determined not to be an error, or the item has been rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

Joanne McCarthy (basketball)

The above two need correcting (certainly the first one is quite an embarassment), but I have mu doubts about

  • "... that sisters Joanne, Lynette, Amy and Jenny McCarthy were all gymnasts and ten-pin bowlers?"

as well. This is apparently based on the remark[3] "The girls also have tackled bowling and gymnastics, Linda McCarthy said.", which isn't really stating that all four did both of these sports, but is in any case taking something unremarkable (a hobby they had as kids) and turning it into something noteworthy for the main page. The Jenny McCarthy article, linked from the main page blurb, doesn't even mention this fact, as it has no importance at all. Fram (talk) 15:38, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

courtesy pings @TonyTheTiger, TenPoundHammer, and PrimalMustelid: as nominator, reviewer, and promoter respectively; the issues seem quite serious and the hook should be pulled if they are not resolved. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 15:50, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Quality check error on my part. I read the source and I guess misinterpreted it. What do you suggest? Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 18:07, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

DYK is taking itself a bit too seriously. The Jenny McCarthy hook is not the main hook. It could have been unlinked.-TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 23:49, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
A DYK about a link is pointless—it doesn't highlight a specific article. Besides, the sourcing was suspect regardless of the article. Cremastra (talk) 01:26, 8 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Errors in "On this day"

Malaga was as muslim as the rest of cities conquered by muslims. It was founded about 770 BC by the Phoenicians. No muslim cities in the iberian peninsula, just south european cities ruled at the time by goths likely, and occupied by muslims and liberated by christians, all of them. Most of the population was muslim after hundreds of years of occupation?. Ok, but that doesn't make a city muslim, but it was a european city invaded like the rest of them all over what muslim invaders called Al-andalus. Of course if it was liberated by christian forces it was because was ruled by the Nasrid dynasty's Emirate of Granada, which would be destroyed few time after. It's just wrong to call muslim to an european city because it was invaded. You could call muslim city a city invaded by the crusaders for a limited period of time, as you know, for example. As a suggestion you could say Malaga was the most important of remaining ports of the Emirate. I'd add No european country like today know them existed at the time and spain was one of the first to be created as a whole entity few after that time, so it wouldn't be correct to call Malaga a spanish city like to any other european city belonging to a modern european state, in my no expert opinion.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 149.34.178.61 (talk) 01:31, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Since the city of Mālaqa was Muslim (it appears to have been founded by them, but the article is vague on that point), I don't see why it can't be called a Muslim city. And "Liberation" vs "invasion" is just looking at the same thing from different sides; I think any "liberation" is by definition an "invasion". Cremastra (talk) 19:35, 7 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
