(on request of Wrad, who requested the Checkuser, since he's having some technical difficulty with the SSP page)
- Evidence
- Previous Sockpuppet report for Barryispuzzled.
- Current Checkuser report for Barryispuzzled and the current socks. Results were stale for the puppeteer account but confirms that Isnotwen == ProsperoX == Sycorax13.
- Barryispuzzled got himself indef banned back in August for threats of violence and off-wiki action against myself and Wrad. He also ran a bunch of sockpuppets—some of them self-admitted socks, some found by the community—some of which were banned in the previous sockpuppetry case. Two suspected socks who were not banned last time were Sycorax13 and ProsperoX. See the previous sockpuppet case for details of the MO and evidence. See in particular the current Checkuser request for further description of the current MO and evidence.
- Right before Christmas, user Isnotwen pops up on Talk:Baconian theory (edit | article | history | links | watch | logs) exhibiting many of the traits of Barryispuzzled. At the same time ProsperoX and Sycorax13—who've otherwise been very quiet—start jumping into the fray in the same way Barry's previous sockpuppet accounts did. Isnotwen was registered on 17 December 2008, but shows more than passing familiarity with the technical details of Wikipedia and several of the policies we linked Barry to in August; in particular, he "communicated" with other editors by way of user warning templates, and though fairly obviously disruptive, the templates chosen were the correct ones for the imagined infraction (i.e. he used the AGF, NPOV, and OWN templates correctly; just not for an actual infraction of the relevant policy). See uw templates on Smatprt's talk page, and ditto on mine.
- For a further details on the MO and diffs, see Wrad's writeup for the Checkuser request.
From Wrad:
Just to make things a little easier, here's the checkuser:
Barryispuzzled was indefblocked [1] awhile ago for sockpuppetry. He promised that he would come back again through sockpuppets now and again, using internet cafes and whatever connection he could find. He usually hangs around the Baconian theory article and tries to start disputes. Here is his sock case Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/Barryispuzzled. As you can see, Sycorax and Prospero were listed, but for some reason never blocked.
Proving that they are socks is easy. They carry Barry's MO, hanging around the Baconian theory talk page and jumping into disputes. Prospero claims to be Sycorax's husband here [2], but here [3] Prospero, says he is the wrong gender to be a Barry. And here [4], his "wife", Sycorax, describes her/himself as a man.
Isnotwen is a newer one and the reason for this checkuser request. He also carries Barry's MO in hanging around Baconian theory. He claims on his talk page to be living in "a wonderful home in LA". If he really is, as his userpage says, on the west coast, then he got up at 4 in the morning to make this edit [5] and several others afterwards for a couple of hours. I find this unlikely. If he is, as Barry was, in London, it would be mid-afternoon. He also says he is "disappearing into the night" here [6] when on the west coast it is only about 6:00pm. In London it would be much later in the night. The timing of his edit patterns are basically the same as those followed by Sycorax and Prospero, who are already obvious sock puppets and rush to his support at key moments. A simple checkuser would reveal that all three were editing from Britain, and we could move forward with the sock case.
This is ignoring other evidence against Isnotwen as merely circumstantial, such as his immediately contacting other acquaintances of his past socks and quotes on his userpage which seem to reference past conversations with me. The picture on his userpage, which he says was made by his "talented girlfriend", was actually created "entirely by himself" as he says here [7]. The image appears to be a doctored up image of Barry himself, done by himself. Wrad (talk) 17:50, 29 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Barryispuzzled (talk · contribs) is
Stale. It's
Likely that ProsperoX (talk · contribs) = Sycorax13 (talk · contribs) = Isnotwen (talk · contribs). Nishkid64 (Make articles, not wikidrama) 05:05, 30 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Thanks. Wrad (talk) 05:23, 30 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
As you can see, Sycorax and Prospero and Isnotwen are all likely the same person, according to the checkuser. A harder look also shows that both Isnotwen and Prospero can't help but use British spelling out of habit, try as they might to do otherwise (Isnotwen says 'civilisation' [8], Prospero uses Br Eng spelling 'favourite' on his user page). When you consider all the rest of the evidence, they are all definitely the same person in Barryispuzzled. Wrad (talk) 15:36, 30 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Comments
- While you're at it, if you could block User:GemmaVI, another obvious sock, that would be great. See his only edit [9]. May not seem to matter, but if his socks are overlooked and not blocked they have a habit of popping up again. Wrad (talk) 18:41, 30 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Conclusions
- All three socks blocked indefinitely; they may not be Barryispuzzled's, but he is blocked anyway and CU and the evidence here shows they are alternates of each other - and attempting to evade detection. LessHeard vanU (talk) 23:13, 30 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
