Attacks in the article Scott Simoncini

Hi Tony,

I posted this page with all factual information. I would hope Wikipedia would not delete it and possibly edit the information. I made no assumptions and only put in factual information from newspaper articles that are widely published. There are a couple of issues with the article. The article appeared that it existed primarily to disparage its subject and as such this is an attack page. Any articles that is deemed to be a negative or attack article is removed immediately. If we were to add positive information about the subject would that be acceptable. Positive with the Negitive? Also, I will look at the notable persons. I doubt you are from Rhode Island or even know anything about Poncho O'Malley Day other than it doesn't appear to be notable, but in RI, this past year it was notable. There were 4 bars that had featured specials and celebrations for Poncho O'Malley Day. There are already another 5 bars in the area that are signed on to promote it next year and the radio station 95.5 WBRU will also be promoting the holiday come April. This IS a legit and notable event that is growing in size.

My location is irrelevant. I suggest you read WP:NOTE for what denotes notability. Notability generally needs to be beyond local acceptance. Five local bars and a radio station is not notable. Add to that the lack of no GNEWS hits showing any substantial news coverage and it fails notability. ttonyb1 (talk) 20:12, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

Internet Heroes

Can you tell me what the issue is with adding Internet Heroes - I am new to this so would like to understand and move forward.

I feel they meet all the criteria of Wikipedia including notability like Geek Squad does.

I have used Internet Heroes in the past and always found them to be offering Impeccable service. They have 200 engineers who are friendly and unique in the city of Dubai. If anything goes wrong 24 hours they respond to you.

They are unique cause there is no one in the who country i.e. United Arab Emirates who provides the services they do.

Computers and its problems are a daily issue and they are notably the most important feature when technology goes wrong

Hi, I'm new to this process, so I would appreciate your guidance. I'm not clear on what parts of this page were copyright infringment? All of the information comes from reviews or publicly available information which was used as promotional content. The purpose of this page is not for self promotion, but is a reference for 'The Franklin Party' which is in the process of becoming registered in three major states. By the way, I'm not sure why that page was also deleted. It strikes me as odd that a book like 'Liberal Fascism' can have a page and the 'Libertarian Party' can have a page, but my pages are tossed out??? Sorry for your frustration, I too have have articles deleted from Wikipedia. The article Political Common Sense for America was deleted because it appeared to be a copyright infringement of this article and this article. Additionally, it did not meet the criteria in WP:ORG.
If you look at Liberal Fascism and Libertarian Party (United States) both are well substanciated and both have met the criteria set forth in WP:ORG.

I undertand that you don't want blatant advertising and promotion. The part I don't get is that your definition of what is fact versus promotion is prejudicial. The other book I referenced has just sold more copies. It doesn't make it any more factual or referencable. The other political party I reference just has more people signed on but if you use that as a criteria then you might suggest they don't have enough references and exposure compared to the Democratic and Republican parties so they should be disallowed until they get in the top two. I have no recourse other than logic on either of these points but I do dispute the copyright issue. Both of the referenced notes are #1 a retail description of the book and #2 is a press release that was picked up by a news sources. If that is copyright infringement than we need to look at the page on Richard Bach because they have a description for Jonathen Livingston Seagull that pulls right from the retail description too (so does Liberal Fascism). See my point? Oh well, I'm frustrated, I really thought the point of this was to allow factual data to be provided to the masses. What I'm concluding is that the medai needs to accept it first and then its real. Too bad, since the media is a horribly prejudicial editor.

One of the mistakes a new user makes is the assumption that Wikipedia is a separate entity that does not include the new user. The guidelines that define Wikipedia are as a result of users (new and established) proposing and voting to accept the proposal. Basically, you and I are part of the Wikipedia community - the guidelines are not mine, they are ours. 8-)
The other books and articles have substantial coverage in the form of news coverage and such. Just because something is sells more copies has no direct relevance to notability. It should be noted that generally speaking the better the sale of an item, the more coverage a it might experience.
There is plenty of coverage for Liberal Fascism and Libertarian Party (United States). Again, the criteria for inclusion has nothing to so with the number of people that belong to the organization.
You are more than welcome to dispute the copyright issue by providing the original and showing that it has been released as WP:GFDL or an equivalent.
Your comment that, "I really thought the point of this was to allow factual data to be provided to the masses." is not exactly correct. The threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth. My best to you... ttonyb1 (talk) 21:46, 2 July 2009 (UTC)

Tek webcomic

Hi Tony. I revised the article and still contest that it is worthy to remain as TEK is the only webcomic that is centered around the world of tech-blogging and gadget reviews. I did not use content from the Huffington Post. I used excerpts from Mr. McMillan bio which we have here at his law firm, Dewey & LeBoeuf. Mr. McMillan is a Partner at Dewey. We probably provided a bio to Huffington Post, if anything. What do we need to do to get a profile of Mr. McMillan added to Wikipedia? Center for Innovation, Excellence and Leadership at Hult International Business School

Hi,

A few weeks ago I tried to create a page summarizing the Center for Innovation, Excellence and Leadership (IXL Center) at Hult. The page was marked for deletion and removed, but I was hoping to get some guidance about how to create an appropriate page.

There are similar institutions, affiliated with other universities, that have Wikipedia pages. For example the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation and the University of Florida (see link below).

It appears the article was tagged as a copyright violation. If an article is copied from an existing source and the source is not allowed to be used via a Creative Commons Attribution/Share-Alike License 3.0 or GFDL, the article deleted. Hi Tony,

What constitutes significant?

How many people need to attend?

With significant artists attending, and growing in stature each year, why does this make for a non-significant event?

With the principle of a greener way of life and conservation the festival is UNIQUE in New Brunswick and is already being copied by others, how is this insignificant?

I added some of the press coverage from 2008, and 2009 the festival will get even more, how much coverage is required?

What needs to be added to the article to avoid deletion?

How can other events such as Evolve been included that have no significant message? Purely on the basis that they get a few more heads? They certainly do not get as significant a list of performers or send out such a positive message as The Green Festival.

I would look to grow this article and continue links to top performers and people as they attend, but it is going to be impossible if the basic article is deleted.

Re: Speed Deletion Richard Barile

No hard feeling on this one. I simply removed the link in the George Jung entry where I came from (never heard of dude until tonight but remember the character from movie Blow). I am not sure why the entry was removed in the first place as an attack page on a convicted drug dealer of 135 years must have really sucked to be deleted in the first person. No problems. The article was marked as attack because it did not have any references to support the allegations. It does not matter who the person is or the allegations, all people are treated the same when it comes to providing unsourced material in articles. Understood the sad thing is I am sure it would not be hard to just get the cold hard facts. I would do it but researching drug dealers a bit low on the priority list. It just broke the wikiflow why I was annoyed in first place. To be honest probably best to break the wikiflow on the subject as it doesn't take a whole lot of conspiracy theory to connect the US government with many of these drug dealers. Cork Medical Centre

Hi Tony

My page on a new private hospital in Cork, Ireland (the Cork Medical Centre) has been deleted. I'm sorry I didn't realise it was would be construed as advertising, it certainly was not envisaged to be that way. The intention was just to add a page alongside pages on the Sheehan family's other hospitals in Dublin and Galway, which are below.

Simon, first off don't get frustrated. We all get things that do not meet Wikipedia guidelines deleted - myself included. I do not remember the article details, but it seems to me the article tried to cover a lot of things including services, mission, etc and sounded like an ad for the Center. It would help if you could provide a copy of the article in a user/sandbox. Take a look at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital for a good article that provides the facts concerning a hospital/clinic without providing any advertising.

Nadine Sykora

Hi,

Sorry, I guess I'm new to this, but Nadine Sykora has a higher video count, higher video views and more subscribers than a number of "youtube celebrities" on the actual Wikipedia list of youtube celebrities. She's attended award shows, been featured in videos by a number of other prominent users and attended youtube meetups and conferences. Between youtube and her website she's been a prominent video blogging personality and is listed on youtube's website as a Partner in their partner's program. How is it that she doesn't qualify as a notable person?

As I told Simon in the entry above, don't get frustrated. I too have had articles deleted. The reason the article was deleted was it failed to meet the criteria for notability for individuals. There has to be significant coverage of the individual for their achievements. Unfortunately, attending meetings, award shows, conferences, or being videoed by others does not fall into this category. The number of web hits or video views does not insure notability as defined my Wikipedia.
As I suggested to Simon, you may want to create the article in a User/sandbox and edit it there. When you have completed the editing, you can move it to the mainspace. If I can be of any help, please let me know. ttonyb1 (talk) 01:08, 16 July 2009 (UTC)

Hi Tony, I fail to see how this article fails wikipedia's music biography criteria. The group has a cd from a reputable source, has won a major competition (ICCA), and all information is cited from strong secondary sources (university website, organization website, ICCA website). In addition, it follows the exact same format, and has the name accomplishments as other a cappella groups that are allowed under wikipedia. Dicks and Janes (University of Michigan) to same one. Please reread WP:BAND. Having a CD is not considered notable unless it has charted on any national music chart or certified gold or higher in at least one country. Advancing to the quarter or semifinals is not winning or placing in a competition. A university website is "generally considered trivial." ttonyb1 (talk) 04:16, 16 July 2009 (UTC)

The criteria are not other articles, but WP:BAND. Dicks and Janes may or may not be up to Wikipedia criteria for ensembles; however, it does appear that their members as part of that group, have placed in competition and the group has been included in a compilation album. I understand that another article is not criteria, but I am using it as a template to help me understand. Obviously is they are allowed on the site, then a group with identical merits should be allowed. In fact, Capital Green is on the same compilation album (I have not made that a title, it is included under the ICCA title of the article, should I make that more obvious if that will make the group pass criteria?) Capital Green has also placed in the same competition with identical scores, for the same number of years. Perhaps the problem is in my wording. I have been keeping the tone of the article much less egotistical than I could. Perhaps if I were to play up the accomplishments more, this would change your mind?
I would add these items to the article. The article is in AfD, this means it has been nominated for deletion and placed in a process so other editors can discuss the merits of the article to determine if should stay or be deleted. After you add the items to the article you should add your thoughts to the AfD. In your discussion I would compare the article to the criteria, but not to other articles. Balloon Wholesalers International – Speed Deleted

Tony – I guess I too am unclear about what makes a company “notable” for Wikipedia. I have read every section and sub section on the topic. I don’t understand why my article on Balloon Wholesalers was marked for speedy deletion. It was not advertisement, had no bias but did have many references and links. How is what they do any different then Party City?

This company did a lot last year to ensure that foil balloons were not outlawed in the State of California. As a balloon artist it is important to me, as it would be to others in the business, to keep balloons legal. I order from several different balloon companies for my store and this is the only one that has lots of free information available online. Do I prefer to work with Balloon Wholesalers, you bet but I tried to put an article online about them that would be just information and not show bias.

Hi, TM, unfortunately I do not remember a lot about the article except it was marked for because it was too much like an advertisement. The notability that Party City has is "[it is the] largest retail party supply store in the United States and Puerto Rico..." Additionally, the article is written listing only facts and no POV. If you have a copy of the article I suggest you put it in a User/sandbox and I can then look at it and give you some specific comments about the article. First off, I have moved a copy of the article to User:Twilightmom/balloon.
Looking at the page, it appears you will have some problems getting this to meet WP:COMPANY. Per the criteria, "An organization is generally considered notable if it has been the subject of significant coverage in reliable, independent secondary sources. Trivial or incidental coverage of a subject by secondary sources is not sufficient to establish notability. All content must be verifiable." I do not see any indication the company has had any significant coverage. If there has been any it needs to be added to the article. The article also looks as if it is an advertisement and not an encyclopedic article.
Read Primary criteria for more help in establishing Notability. Take a look at the article for Omniture. I know it is not the same type of company and is bigger, but it lays out the type of information needed in an article. it tells the story of the company, talks a little bit about products and cites coverage. Party City also accomplishes this and is able to cite NYTimes coverage.

I think you are OK waiting a couple of days to fix the inline citations. I have started fixing them, so you should have examples for each. I am not sure about the Notability of the individual. The article clearly asserts notability, but without the citations there is some question. You may want to make a copy of the article in a User/sandbox in case someone nominates it for deletion. You would be able to bring it back - with changes - right away. Generally an article is not "salted", that is banned, unless there is some abuse associated with it. This is really annoying me now. First off, there is no one person in charge of editing or the site. It is a volunteer organization and anyone is allowed to contribute.
There are certain criteria that one needs to follow in order to create an article in Wikipedia. Those criteria are defined in the sections referenced in the Welcome message left on your talk page. I suggest you read the sections:

The nature of the business that this man is involved in means that credible articles regarding him are not necessarily easy to find. Having said that, all one needs to do is type 'Mark Allen GDI' into google and thousands of pages and posts appear relating to this man and the business stated in the article. Many posts can be found made by people looking to find out how they can succeed in the same way as the subject has. What I was suggesting was if no one knows about your accomplishments, your accomplishments cannot be verified. If you cannot provide valid references to support the article, it will most likely be deleted. I also fail to see the 14,000 articles you refer to. I only count less than 3,000 285. I have sampled a number of those articles and they do not appear to meet Wikipedia criteria. That's rather strange. Google is showing results 1-10 of around 14,000. Them not meeting 'Wikipedia criteria' is exactly my point. The sources may not be 'credilbe wiki sources' but they are, never-the-less, 14,000 people who do see this man as notable. Does somebody really need to make a news headline to be considered notable? There appear to be thousands of people with pages on wikipedia for whom I cannot find a single other reference. The man in question is not me, not that that should really make a difference. I don't mind this article not getting published but as a matter of principle I am not going to let it go until I get a sensible reason for deletion. Google does show 14K hits if you search for the items 'Mark Allen GDI'. If you combine Mark and Allen into a phrase by using quotes (a much more meaningful search) it is reduced to 285 - Not 3K as I originally thought. If there are articles that do not meet Wikipedia criteria for inclusion you are welcome to nominate them for deletion.
Although using a search engine like Google can be useful in determining how common or well-known a particular topic is, a large number of hits on a search engine is no guarantee that the subject is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia. Wikification, Cleanup & sections in Boba Phat article

Thank you for indicating that my Wiki article Boba Phat needs some type of wikification, cleanup & sections. I received a message from you stating that I removed the tags but did not do anything significant, for which I apologize. I did go in and fix what I believed to be faulty. I am new to Wiki - this is my first article - and although I have read the Quality Standards page diligently, I cannot seem to figure out what exactly is wrong. I understand I may need to add additional sections. The Manual is quite vast, and I am by no means an expert in programming. Can you please help me narrow down precisely what needs to be fixed as I fully intend to abide by Wikipedia's standards, yet need some targeted direction to pinpoint what the problem areas are. First off, congratulations on creating your first article. Getting it from an idea to an article can sometimes be a pain. Add to that trying to follow the Wikipedia guidelines and it can be a real pain the first time. I have left you a welcome message on your talk page that might help you. The message has a number of nice links that will help you to create a new article and navigate the guidelines.
As the article currently stands, there are a couple of issues. The major one is not related to format, but Notability, I am not sure the subject is notable enough to warrant an article. See Wikipedia notability and its subsections for more information. There might be enough to support the article, but I am not yet sure. There needs to be enough substantial coverage in independent, third-party, references to support the article. Let's cross that bridge later.
One of the things I find useful in creating an article is to review other articles that are about subjects close to the one I am writing. Unfortunately there are probably not a lot of articles that are similar. The best I could come up with is The San Diego Chicken. Take a look at how the style of writing is straight-forward and lacks POV or fluff. It presents the subject in a rather mater-a-fact manner. I will certainly take a look at The San Diego Chicken article within the upcoming week (as time permits) to gain more insight into how to format the Boba Phat article. There are more third-party references I intend to add - hopefully as a result of interviews that Boba Phat has done via several notable print media (Time (magazine), Wired (magazine), etc.) as well as commentary to be used in an upcoming Lucasfilm documentary about Star Wars fans. After Comic-Con this past weekend, more sources ideally will arise to help verify notability.
Again I apologize in advance for sounding naive, but I would like to be certain that I understand what you meant by "convert some of the links to inline references". The last thing I want to do is violate any Wikipedia policies so I thought it best to ask. I did read the Inline citation page, however upon viewing the history of my article, it appears as though you did this for me, for which I am grateful! Once again I am grateful for the help. I did a bit more homework by reading the suggested The San Diego Chicken article as well as a whole host of others, and cleaned up several adverbs & adjectives that perhaps appeared subjective. Additionally, I added two more verifiable media sources & cited their references accordingly as per your instructions. I also re-added a pseudonym by which Boba Phat is commonly referred which I had reverted because ClueBot had sent me a vandalism message regarding the change. Upon carefully reading Wiki's policy on vandalism, it is clear that the addiction of this pseudonym is not only NOT vandalism, but is pertinent in establishing identifiability of the article's subject. I have since re-added the reverted text as well as added a recent notable news source - LA Weekly - who refers to Boba Phat by this pseudonym under his photograph in their article. Finally, I added appropriate categories. I will still be working on it more as media mentions come to fruition, however would like to know what else is required for the notice indicating that the article is in need of "cleanup", "wikification" & "sections" at the top of the page could be feasibly removed. Also, I'd like to express that ClueBot had made an error & do not want to get another "Please stop" message threatening me with being blocked if I continue to vandalize, as my inclusion of the pseudonym does not constitute vandalism in any form & is, in fact, a necessity. Hi again Ttonyb1... I just left Wikipedia, and proceeded to google Boba Phat which was previously showing up within the first 7 links organically prior to my recent change. It is now not showing up on the search engine at all, even when I type the keywords Boba Phat Wikipedia. It is visible internally on Wikipedia's search, however there is nothing new in the history here indicating any bot, user or administrative editing, nor any listing of it on the deletion log. Nice work. I have removed the maintenance tags. (I'll leave it to you to remove the {{underconstruction}} tag.) There may still be some issues associated with Notability, but let's see what happens. I saw the Bot tag on your talk page. In the tag there is a section that allows one to report the text as a "false positive". You can save yourself the aggravation of another tag by reporting the text as valid for the article. I am not sure why Google is not capturing the article, but I suspect it has to do with the way Google works and not Wikipedia. Again, very nice effort to save the article. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. I have changed the only warning to a level 2 warning - I am convinced the additions are good faith edits. The reason the article has been nominated for deletion is it appears to fail WP:SPAM and WP:COMPANY. Hey, you put the page for Lone (musician) up for speedy deletion. Lone is an artist signed to Dealmaker records, who has released 2 full-length albums. FYI: Clearing of the CSB tag on Eddie Chuculate

Hi,

I noticed you cleared the User:CorenSearchBot tag from the above, noting that the source was GFDL. Unfortunately, it is listed as GFDL 1.2 strictly, which is no longer compatible with Wikipedia since June 16th this year.
