Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Extra (Australian TV channel) has been reverted.
Your edit here to Extra (Australian TV channel) was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links which are discouraged per our external links guideline. The external link(s) you added or changed (https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/logopedia/images/e/ed/0575afae-e177-4dc7-8bd8-8c5f9e3fcc4b.png/revision/latest?cb=20140125125827On) is/are on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. If the external link you inserted or changed was to an image file on an external server, then note that linking to such files may be subject to Wikipedia's copyright policy and therefore probably should not be linked to. Please consider using our upload facility to upload a suitable image.
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! --XLinkBot (talk) 00:06, 13 October 2018 (UTC)

Hello, I'm Materialscientist. I noticed that you made one or more changes to an article, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so! If you need guidance on referencing, please see the referencing for beginners tutorial, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Hello, I'm HMSLavender. I noticed that in this edit to List of digital television channels in Australia, you removed content without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, the removed content has been restored. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. lavender|(formerly HMSSolent)|lambast 07:19, 29 September 2019 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for July 3
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited WIN (TV station), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Channel 9. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 05:53, 3 July 2021 (UTC)

Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution
Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Prime7 into Seven Network. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution
. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. DanCherek (talk) 11:52, 27 July 2022 (UTC)

Article redirects
The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
Hey. I might suggest taking a break from creating all these redirects for former names of Australian TV networks and channels. Not all of the names you're using are legitimate former names, and many of them are completely unnecessary. (i.e. you don't need Prime Television (Australia) because the article Prime Television already covers that former name; or all of LINC TV Lismore, LINC TV (Lismore), Linc TV Lismore, Linc TV (Lismore).
I understand wanting to include former names of a network or channel, but you've reached the point where it's getting ridiculous. – Nick Mitchell 98 talk 09:48, 28 September 2022 (UTC)
- That’s ok Nick, for a week I will stop creating new redirects. Bassie f (talk) 09:50, 28 September 2022 (UTC)
- I will only edit existing redirects. Bassie f (talk) 10:03, 28 September 2022 (UTC)
- Hey @Bassie f, you don't actually need to stop. The user nominated quite a few of the redirects you've created for deletion and it looks like they're all going to be kept, except for two which may be retargeted. Don't let redirects you've created being nominated for deletion discourage you. Hey man im josh (talk) 13:26, 29 September 2022 (UTC)
- I agree with Hey man im josh, there is no problem with your redirects that requires you to stop what you are doing. Almost all of those that have been nominated are good redirects that I believe should be and likely will be kept as is. A couple might be retargetted but that's no big deal, it is Nick Mitchell 98 rather than you who appears not to understand the purpose of redirects. Thryduulf (talk) 13:42, 29 September 2022 (UTC)

- @Hey man im josh: For the record, just because someone's an admin doesn't mean either they know what they are talking about or know everything about Wikipedia. Steel1943 (talk) 18:01, 3 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Steel1943, that's a bit of a weird chime in. The conversation went down the path of what a redirect is, with the user seeming to misunderstand the conversation, and the simplest way to end it was to point out that an administrator knows what a redirect is. Hey man im josh (talk) 18:38, 3 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Hey man im josh: All I was trying to point out us with the way your statement read, it sounded like admins know everything, which they don't. To me, your statement read something like "Of course they know what that is, they are an admin", which comes off as a bit rude since it assumes admins know everything and some non-admins don't know what admins know or some things. But on the contrary, there are several non-admins that know more about specific aspects of Wikipedia than some admins. Anyways, if this was not your intended statement, my apologies for misinterpreting it, but that's how it read to me. Steel1943 (talk) 19:02, 3 October 2022 (UTC)

Avoiding cut-and-paste moves
Hi, in the future, instead of performing a cut-and-paste move (which fragments the page history and creates attribution issues) as at SBS TV, please request a page swap at Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests. I have performed the page swap in this case to preserve the page history as well as your intended redirects. DanCherek (talk) 02:50, 1 April 2023 (UTC)
Regarding manual pageswap that comes after the RM closure for BJay Pak
Hi, first of all, thank you for doing non-admin closures of requested move discussions. However if you are unable to move the article for whatever reason (most likely being blocked due to existing content or revisions), do not attempt to do manual pageswaps when you do not have the pagemover right. Request for pageswaps instead at WP:RM/TR, as indicated in the Avoiding cut-and-paste moves. Most pagemovers/admins would usually follow through with the request, unless they deem that the closure may require a review and engage you otherwise.
Pageswapping or round robin moves is most effectively and efficiently done by pagemovers or admins as they have advanced rights to suppress redirects and/or overwrite single-revision redirect pages. Cleaning up manual pageswaps that non-pagemovers editors, like you, have done involves at least other pagemover and/or admin to follow through. – robertsky (talk) 12:41, 17 April 2023 (UTC)
- (In this case, there have been at least three editors looking at this when a request to clean up your work was made at WP:RM/TR. This is not counting the admins who would have to clean up the remaining intermediary moves created in the process.) – robertsky (talk) 12:44, 17 April 2023 (UTC)
- I moved it to Draft:Move/BJay Pak, originally. It is usually a round-robin step. Yours sincerely, TechGeek105 (his talk page) 21:47, 17 April 2023 (UTC)

- @Happily888, do you know a NewsXpress news agency? Yours sincerely, TechGeek105 (his talk page) 06:23, 9 May 2023 (UTC)
- I don't think this article would meet the WP:NOTABILITY criteria for businesses and companies. There doesn't seem to be much significant coverage in reliable sources which reference the newsagency, so it would be highly unlikely that an article written on this company will, at this time, not be nominated for deletion. Also, note that no organisation should be considered automatically inherently notable or noteworthy.
- However, if you think the article is notable, I would encourage you to be WP:BOLD and create a draft of the article, potentially at Draft:NewsXpress in the draftspace, or in your sandbox. WP:Article Wizard could also be helpful in guiding you through the process of starting your draft as part of the AfC process. Please also note the conflict of interest policy and ensure that you disclose this if you are editing articles about which you or a family member are connected to. - @Fastily, I’m changing topics in this talk page thread as this thread's title is just May 2023. The new topic is: what is my 5000th contribution and how do I find it? Yours sincerely, TechGeek105 (his talk page) 08:24, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
- @Happily888, back to NewsXpress, I will instead edit the article Newsagent's shop and add information about NewsXpress to the Australia section. Yours sincerely, TechGeek105 (his talk page) 09:25, 11 May 2023 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: User talk:2001:8003:8C44:9D00:D8FB:D657:6F91:A640
Hello TechGeek105, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of User talk:2001:8003:8C44:9D00:D8FB:D657:6F91:A640, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: looks like a new editor using their talk page as a sandbox. this is pretty common actually. I'll try blanking it, although if they revert it i'll probably leave it alone. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. –Novem Linguae (talk) 01:47, 25 June 2023 (UTC)
- @Novem Linguae, I saw you blanking the page, but I will review the criteria soon. Also, the whole prefix of 2001:8003:8C44:9D00:0:0:0:0/64 was blocked by @Courcelles yesterday (24 June 2023) at 13:25 (UTC) and at 23:25 (AEST). Yours sincerely, TechGeek105 (his talk page) 02:42, 25 June 2023 (UTC)
Tagging pages as AI-generated
Hi TechGeek105, please don't tag pages as AI-generated when they likely aren't. Just because LLMs may output phrases that are similar to Wikipedia content, it is more likely that in many cases the library it uses contains data scraped from Wikipedia.
Before adding this template in future, please try checking the article's history for long-term collaborative edits which could show that the paragraphs were not AI-generated, as the two articles you added this template to were imo highly unlikely to be AI-generated. Feel free to write a note on the bottom of my talk page for further clarification or to visit the Teahouse help forum. Thank you for editing Wikipedia! Happily888 (talk) 17:03, 5 July 2023 (UTC)
- @Happily888, but I put AI paragraphs in both articles in the first place. Yours sincerely, TechGeek105 (his talk page) 21:52, 5 July 2023 (UTC)
- Please read WP:ChatGPT and WP:Large language models#Basic guidance. Specifically,
do not publish content on Wikipedia obtained by asking LLMs to write original content or generate references.
Please disclose any usage of machine learning in your edit summaries in which you add information; you should only be using using AI to help or advise you as opposed to adding any large amounts of content. If possible, please remove your artificially generated additions or rewrite these sections instead using reliable, secondary, well-researched sources. Happily888 (talk) 03:54, 6 July 2023 (UTC)- I have read that advice, and I will follow your steps, @Happily888. Yours sincerely, TechGeek105 (his talk page) 04:00, 6 July 2023 (UTC)
- @Happily888, I have started to rewrite the WIN Television article to remove some AI elements. Not sure if I will rewrite the List of programs broadcast by Network 10 article just yet. Yours sincerely, TechGeek105 (his talk page) 04:27, 6 July 2023 (UTC)
- @Happily888, I have read both pages now. Can we please both no longer reply to this discussion? Yours sincerely, TechGeek105 (his talk page) 04:59, 6 July 2023 (UTC)
- Please read WP:ChatGPT and WP:Large language models#Basic guidance. Specifically,
Unnecessary page move of primary topic and using more appropriate edit summaries when reverting users
Hi TechGeek105, please see WP:PRIMARYTOPIC regarding your recent page move of The Morning Show and familiarise yourself with these guidelines and the naming conventions in future prior to moving further pages. Also, please provide more detailed or better reasoning in your edit summaries if reverting other users, rather than just stating that the edits made are "bad changes". Happily888 (talk) 12:38, 28 July 2023 (UTC)
- @Happily888, I clearly stated that there are 2 different Australian programs called The Morning Show, so a move to The Morning Show (2007 TV program), makes sense in my opinion. Maybe this could become a WP:RM discussion? I will revert edits by other users using words like this (Reverted your changes that messed up the formatting of this article) Yours sincerely, TechGeek105 (his talk page) 21:13, 28 July 2023 (UTC)
- Although WP:PTOPIC states that the article to which a term should lead to is commonly considered through the two major aspects:
usage if it is highly likely … to be the topic sought when a reader searches for that term
andlong-term significance … substantially greater enduring notability and educational value than any other topic
. In other words, you don't have to fully disambiguate an article just because another topic of that name exists, it can be left un-disambiguated if it is highly likely that most people would be typing this title, or this partially ambiguated title, and would be looking for that topic. Looking at article traffic statistics and wikinav shows that the topic's most commonly searched TV program is the Australian version, which means that its probably not necessary to move this to a more specific disambiguation, as most users will most likely be searching for this article but moving mean it would take longer for users to search for it. Happily888 (talk) 09:09, 29 July 2023 (UTC)- If the Australian program receives a view drop, should we disambiguate it? Yours sincerely, TechGeek105 (his talk page) 09:29, 29 July 2023 (UTC)
- Maybe, but probably not as it has been shown over a long period of time to be the most likely to be searched topic, generally significantly more overall views than the Canadian and former Australian version combined. Please just read WP:PRIMARYTOPIC and WP:DAB, they explain these concepts very well and will be helpful when you may be considering future page moves. Happily888 (talk) 09:54, 29 July 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot, @Happily888. I have now read both pages you linked, and remember to always mark disambiguation pages on hatnotes with (disambiguation) or use the name of the disambiguation page plus (disambiguation), then {{!}}, plus the name of the disambiguation page without (disambiguation). Yours sincerely, TechGeek105 (his talk page) 21:40, 29 July 2023 (UTC)

- @TechGeek105 this is a reminder that your user page is not an extension of an encyclopedia article or vice versa. Your user page can be of any size and length, and is meant to showcase your contributions and interests as a Wikipedia editor, and should not really substitute a Wikipedia article. See Wikipedia:User pages for further information.
- An encyclopedia article will only be created on you if you are notable as a person (meeting Wikipedia:Notability (people) requirements) and should only be created by others. Please take the time to read this and only request an article on yourself if you think you meet this. However, I can see that you have been mentioned in a news article, but this is most likely an example of Wikipedia:BLP1E and still would not qualify.
- Lastly, please note that almost all Wikipedia contributors are volunteering to build an encyclopedia, not volunteering to clean up your user page. You have created and are maintaining a user page at your own will, and can request deletion of it if you no longer want it. But not everyone will be willing to clean up your user page. Thanks! — Karnataka talk 15:17, 28 August 2023 (UTC)
- This makes sense, @Karnataka. I am not notable except for the Canberra Times article, I am clearly expanding articles as I please, but not an article yet on me. I was also mentioned in an ABC News (Australia) article (https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-06-11/school-experiences-disability-royal-commission/101138298), so I at least have 2 notable references. CS1 error on AMV (TV station)
Hello, I'm Qwerfjkl (bot). I have automatically detected that this edit performed by you, on the page AMV (TV station), may have introduced referencing errors. They are as follows:
- A "missing title" error. References show this error when they do not have a title. Please edit the article to add the appropriate title parameter to the reference. (Fix | Ask for help)
Please check this page and fix the errors highlighted. If you think this is a false positive, you can report it to my operator. Thanks, Qwerfjkl (bot) (talk) 01:50, 3 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Qwerfjkl (bot), that's ok. I hope someone adds titles to the references at some point Yours sincerely, TechGeek105 (his talk page) 03:00, 3 September 2023 (UTC)
Retired template usage
Hi TechGeek105,
Please read WP:RETIRED prior to using the retired template on your user page. Being retired means you plan to completely and permanently stop editing
.
If you plan to either continue to edit or resume editing Wikipedia in the future, you might not be retired, and you may prefer to use either the semi-retired template, almost retired or wikibreak templates. Thanks! Happily888 (talk) 12:50, 7 October 2023 (UTC)
- @Happily888, I have changed the retired template to the wikibreak switch template with the busy parameter and I have also read WP:RETIRED. I am busy in real life from 9 October 2023 to 13 October 2023, due to me having a lot of appointments and the ACT school term 4 2023 starting on 9 October (Monday). I am currently 14 years old and go to Alfred Deakin High School in the Canberra suburb of Deakin, both named after Alfred Deakin. Yours sincerely, TechGeek105 (his talk page) 21:02, 7 October 2023 (UTC)
More and more articles on me and further TV appearances
@TapLover, @SatDis, @Happily888, and other members of WP:AUS and WP:AUSTV, I have had more and more news articles on me and further TV appearances in the past few months, in my personal life, due to the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability (aka Disability Royal Commission) releasing its final report.
I will be on the ABC's 7.30 report on Monday or Tuesday night, as mentioned by the real Celina Edmonds, about inclusion in schools. It was supposed to air last Thursday, but delayed due to international news. Can all of you please watch the story? Have you ever been on TV? Yours sincerely, TechGeek105 (his talk page) 07:24, 21 October 2023 (UTC)

I had some concerns after reviewing this discussion. Specifically, your behavior there, where you pinged two specific other editors there and indicated their position might favor yours, could be seen as canvassing. It would be wise to avoid doing anything like this in the future, as canvassing is considered disruptive to a discussion. Seraphimblade Talk to me 07:01, 28 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Seraphimblade, I have no idea of what canvassing means on Wikipedia, despite being an experienced Wikipedian. I also added supporting refs to that article. Yours sincerely, TechGeek105 (his talk page) 07:07, 28 January 2024 (UTC)
- The very reason I left a link to WP:CANVASS (and am now doing that again) is so that you could familiarize yourself with that if you needed to. Basically—it's sometimes okay to just notify other editors of a discussion, but you should not attempt to notify only editors who are likely to favor or support your position, and you should not encourage them to participate in any specific way. In this case, you called in editors encouraging them to "find sources" (and seemed to think they were people who would be inclined to do that), so that's falling toward the "not acceptable" type of notification. Not something I'm going to block you for or anything, but I do want you to be aware that it's frowned upon and could be considered disruptive if it becomes a pattern. Seraphimblade Talk to me 07:13, 28 January 2024 (UTC)
- If I cannot find sources, I will look on The Wikipedia Library or ask WP:RSX. That is how I could avoid WP:Canvass. Yours sincerely, TechGeek105 (his talk page) 07:18, 28 January 2024 (UTC)

- Thank you @JarrahTree, I will check page views from now on Yours sincerely, TechGeek105 (his talk page) 00:49, 4 February 2024 (UTC)
- It is worth knowing about this - as 0 views, and very low actual watchers (right column summary) suggest the possibility of no responses at all, I used to some time ago expect up to a year (yes) delay in some Tasmanian items. I no longer have much faith in getting responses in even crowded talk pages, it all depends on the subject and the context. JarrahTree 00:52, 4 February 2024 (UTC)

2022 in Australian television
Hi TechGeek105, I have found a reliable source, a David Knox article, for the "television deaths" section of the 2022 in Australian television article. You can use it to look at the list of names of television-related celebrities who have passed away in that year, and from there, find additional sources to support the Knox article, and add the celebrities to the TV deaths table. I've already listed the source in the references of that article, so there's no need for you to do it.
Lotsw73 (talk) 05:05, 27 February 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot @Lotsw73, I will do that when I have more time to focus on Wikipedia. My editing session might freeze as I am on a iPad Air 4. Yours sincerely, TechGeek105 (his talk page) 06:19, 27 February 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @TechGeek105, I was just wondering whether you think the 2022 in Australian TV article has been adequately updated yet. The TV deaths section probably still needs some work, but what about the rest of the article? It certainly looks better than it was! Lotsw73 (talk) 13:50, 11 April 2024 (UTC)

Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 12 March. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 13 March. It will be on all wikis from 14 March (calendar). [1][2]
- After consulting with various communities, the line height of the text on the Minerva skin will be increased to its previous value of 1.65. Different options for typography can also be set using the options in the menu, as needed. [3]
- The active link color in Minerva will be changed to provide more consistency with our other platforms and best practices. [4]
- Structured data on Commons will no longer ask whether you want to leave the page without saving. This will prevent the “information you’ve entered may not be saved” popups from appearing when no information have been entered. It will also make file pages on Commons load faster in certain cases. However, the popups will be hidden even if information has indeed been entered. If you accidentally close the page before saving the structured data you entered, that data will be lost. [5]
Future changes
- All wikis will be read-only for a few minutes on March 20. This is planned at 14:00 UTC. More information will be published in Tech News and will also be posted on individual wikis in the coming weeks. [6][7]

- Web browsers can use tools called extensions. There is now a Chrome extension called Citation Needed which you can use to see if an online statement is supported by a Wikipedia article. This is a small experiment to see if Wikipedia can be used this way. Because it is a small experiment, it can only be used in Chrome in English.
- A new Edit Recovery feature has been added to all wikis, available as a user preference. Once you enable it, your in-progress edits will be stored in your web browser, and if you accidentally close an editing window or your browser or computer crashes, you will be prompted to recover the unpublished text. Please leave any feedback on the project talk page. This was the #8 wish in the 2023 Community Wishlist Survey.
- Initial results of Edit check experiments have been published. Edit Check is now deployed as a default feature at the wikis that tested it. Let us know if you want your wiki to be part of the next deployment of Edit check. [24][25]

Problems
- Between 2 April and 8 April, on wikis using Flagged Revisions, the "Reverted" tag was not applied to undone edits. In addition, page moves, protections and imports were not autoreviewed. This problem is now fixed. [30][31]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 16 April. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 17 April. It will be on all wikis from 18 April (calendar). [32][33]
- Default category sort keys will now affect categories added by templates placed in footnotes. Previously footnotes used the page title as the default sort key even if a different default sort key was specified (category-specific sort keys already worked). [34]
- A new variable
page_last_edit_age
will be added to abuse filters. It tells how many seconds ago the last edit to a page was made. [35]
Future changes
- Volunteer developers are kindly asked to update the code of their tools and features to handle temporary accounts. Learn more.
- Four database fields will be removed from database replicas (including Quarry). This affects only the
abuse_filter
andabuse_filter_history
tables. Some queries might need to be updated. [36]

Recent changes
- Starting this week, newcomers editing Wikipedia will be encouraged to try structured tasks. Structured tasks have been shown to improve newcomer activation and retention. [37]
- You can nominate your favorite tools for the fifth edition of the Coolest Tool Award. Nominations will be open until May 10.
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 23 April. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 24 April. It will be on all wikis from 25 April (calendar). [38][39]
Future changes
- This is the last warning that by the end of May 2024 the Vector 2022 skin will no longer share site and user scripts/styles with old Vector. For user-scripts that you want to keep using on Vector 2022, copy the contents of Special:MyPage/vector.js to Special:MyPage/vector-2022.js. There are more technical details available. Interface administrators who foresee this leading to lots of technical support questions may wish to send a mass message to your community, as was done on French Wikipedia. [40]

Recent changes
- The appearance of talk pages changed for the following wikis: Azerbaijani Wikipedia, Bengali Wikipedia, German Wikipedia, Persian Wikipedia, Hebrew Wikipedia, Hindi Wikipedia, Indonesian Wikipedia, Korean Wikipedia, Dutch Wikipedia, Portuguese Wikipedia, Romanian Wikipedia, Thai Wikipedia, Turkish Wikipedia, Ukrainian Wikipedia, Vietnamese Wikipedia. These wikis participated to a test, where 50% of users got the new design, for one year. As this test gave positive results, the new design is deployed on these wikis as the default design. It is possible to opt-out these changes in user preferences ("Show discussion activity"). The deployment will happen at all wikis in the coming weeks. [41]
- Seven new wikis have been created:
- You can now watch message groups/projects on Translatewiki.net. Initially, this feature will notify you of added or deleted messages in these groups. [49]
- Dark mode is now available on all wikis, on mobile web for logged-in users who opt into the advanced mode. This is the early release of the feature. Technical editors are invited to check for accessibility issues on wikis. See more detailed guidelines.
Problems
- Kartographer maps can use an alternative visual style without labels, by using
mapstyle="osm"
. This wasn't working in previews, creating the wrong impression that it wasn't supported. This has now been fixed. [50]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 30 April. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 1 May. It will be on all wikis from 2 May (calendar). [51][52]

Recent changes
- The appearance of talk pages changed for all wikis, except for Commons, Wikidata and most Wikipedias (a few have already received this design change). You can read the detail of the changes on Diff. It is possible to opt-out these changes in user preferences ("Show discussion activity"). The deployment will happen at remaining wikis in the coming weeks. [53][54]
- Interface admins now have greater control over the styling of article components on mobile with the introduction of the
SiteAdminHelper
. More information on how styles can be disabled can be found at the extension's page. [55] - Wikimedia Enterprise has added article body sections in JSON format and a curated short description field to the existing parsed Infobox. This expansion to the API is also available via Wikimedia Cloud Services. [56]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 7 May. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 8 May. It will be on all wikis from 9 May (calendar). [57][58]
- When you look at the Special:Log page, the first view is labelled "All public logs", but it only shows some logs. This label will now say "Main public logs". [59]
Future changes
- A new service will be built to replace Extension:Graph. Details can be found in the latest update regarding this extension.
- Starting May 21, English Wikipedia and German Wikipedia will get the possibility to activate "Add a link". This is part of the progressive deployment of this tool to all Wikipedias. These communities can activate and configure the feature locally. [60]

Recent changes
- On Wikisource there is a special page listing pages of works without corresponding scan images. Now you can use the new magic word
__EXPECTWITHOUTSCANS__
to exclude certain pages (list of editions or translations of works) from that list. [61] - If you use the user-preference "Show preview without reloading the page", then the template-page feature "Preview page with this template (what's this?)" will now also work without reloading the page. [62]
- Kartographer maps can now specify an alternative text via the
alt=
attribute. This is identical in usage to thealt=
attribute in the image and gallery syntax. An exception for this feature is wikis like Wikivoyage where the miniature maps are interactive. [63] - The old Guided Tour for the "New Filters for Edit Review" feature has been removed. It was created in 2017 to show people with older accounts how the interface had changed, and has now been seen by most of the intended people. [64]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 14 May. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 15 May. It will be on all wikis from 16 May (calendar). [65][66]
- The Special:Search results page will now use CSS flex attributes, for better accessibility, instead of a table. If you have a gadget or script that adjusts search results, you should update your script to the new HTML structure. [67]
Future changes
- In the Vector 2022 skin, main pages will be displayed at full width (like special pages). The goal is to keep the number of characters per line large enough. This is related to the coming changes to typography in Vector 2022. Learn more. [68]
- Two columns of the
pagelinks
database table (pl_namespace
andpl_title
) are being dropped soon. Users must use two columns of the newlinktarget
table instead (lt_namespace
andlt_title
). In your existing SQL queries:- Replace
JOIN pagelinks
withJOIN linktarget
andpl_

in theON
statement - Below that add

- New changes have been made to the UploadWizard in Wikimedia Commons: the overall layout has been improved, by following new styling and spacing for the form and its fields; the headers and helper text for each of the fields was changed; the Caption field is now a required field, and there is an option for users to copy their caption into the media description. [72][73]

- The HTML used to render all headings is being changed to improve accessibility. It will change on 22 May in some skins (Timeless, Modern, CologneBlue, Nostalgia, and Monobook). Please test gadgets on your wiki on these skins and report any related problems so that they can be resolved before this change is made in all other skins. The developers are also considering the introduction of a Gadget API for adding buttons to section titles if that would be helpful to tool creators, and would appreciate any input you have on that.

- Some CSS in the Minerva skin has been removed to enable easier community configuration. Interface editors should check the rendering on mobile devices for aspects related to the classes:
.collapsible
,.multicol
,.reflist
,.coordinates
,.topicon
. Further details are available on replacement CSS if it is needed.

Recent changes
- The software used to render SVG files has been updated to a new version, fixing many longstanding bugs in SVG rendering. [84]
- The HTML used to render all headings is being changed to improve accessibility. It was changed last week in some skins (Vector legacy and Minerva). Please test gadgets on your wiki on these skins and report any related problems so that they can be resolved before this change is made in Vector-2022. The developers are still considering the introduction of a Gadget API for adding buttons to section titles if that would be helpful to tool creators, and would appreciate any input you have on that.
- The HTML markup used for citations by Parsoid changed last week. In places where Parsoid previously added the
mw-reference-text
class, Parsoid now also adds thereference-text
class for better compatibility with the legacy parser. More details are available. [85]
Problems
- There was a bug with the Content Translation interface that caused the tools menus to appear in the wrong location. This has now been fixed. [86]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 11 June. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 12 June. It will be on all wikis from 13 June (calendar). [87][88]
- The new version of MediaWiki includes another change to the HTML markup used for citations: Parsoid will now generate a
<span class="mw-cite-backlink">
wrapper for both named and unnamed references for better compatibility with the legacy parser. Interface administrators should verify that gadgets that interact with citations are compatible with the new markup. More details are available. [89] - On multilingual wikis that use the
<translate>
system, there is a feature that shows potentially-outdated translations with a pink background until they are updated or confirmed. From this week, confirming translations will be logged, and there is a new user-right that can be required for confirming translations if the community requests it. [90]

Recent changes
- People who attempt to add an external link in the visual editor will now receive immediate feedback if they attempt to link to a domain that a project has decided to block. Please see Edit check for more details. [91]
- The new Community Configuration extension is available on Test Wikipedia. This extension allows communities to customize specific features to meet their local needs. Currently only Growth features are configurable, but the extension will support other Community Configuration use cases in the future. [92][93]
- The dark mode beta feature is now available on category and help pages, as well as more special pages. There may be contrast issues. Please report bugs on the project talk page. [94]
Problems
- Cloud Services tools were not available for 25 minutes last week. This was caused by a faulty hardware cable in the data center. [95]
- Last week, styling updates were made to the Vector 2022 skin. This caused unforeseen issues with templates, hatnotes, and images. Changes to templates and hatnotes were reverted. Most issues with images were fixed. If you still see any, report them here. [96]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 18 June. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 19 June. It will be on all wikis from 20 June (calendar). [97][98]
- Starting June 18, the Reference Edit Check will be deployed to a new set of Wikipedias. This feature is intended to help newcomers and to assist edit-patrollers by inviting people who are adding new content to a Wikipedia article to add a citation when they do not do so themselves. During a test at 11 wikis, the number of citations added more than doubled when Reference Check was shown to people. Reference Check is community configurable. [99]
- Mailing lists will be unavailable for roughly two hours on Tuesday 10:00–12:00 UTC. This is to enable migration to a new server and upgrade its software. [100]

Recent changes
- Editors will notice that there have been some changes to the background color of text in the diff view, and the color of the byte-change numbers, last week. These changes are intended to make text more readable in both light mode and dark mode, and are part of a larger effort to increase accessibility. You can share your comments or questions on the project talkpage. [101]
- The text colors that are used for visited-links, hovered-links, and active-links, were also slightly changed last week to improve their accessibility in both light mode and dark mode. [102]
Problems
- You can copy permanent links to talk page comments by clicking on a comment's timestamp. This feature did not always work when the topic title was very long and the link was used as a wikitext link. This has been fixed. Thanks to Lofhi for submitting the bug. [103]
Changes later this week
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 25 June. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 26 June. It will be on all wikis from 27 June (calendar). [104][105]
- Starting 26 June, all talk pages messages' timestamps will become a link at English Wikipedia, making this feature available for you to use at all wikis. This link is a permanent link to the comment. It allows users to find the comment they were linked to, even if this comment has since been moved elsewhere. You can read more about this feature on Diff or on Mediawiki.org. [106]

Tech News: 2024-27
Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Recent changes
- Over the next three weeks, dark mode will become available for all users, both logged-in and logged-out, starting with the mobile web version. This fulfils one of the top-requested community wishes, and improves low-contrast reading and usage in low-light settings. As part of these changes, dark mode will also work on User-pages and Portals. There is more information in the latest Web team update. [107]
- Logged-in users can now set global preferences for the text-size and dark-mode, thanks to a combined effort across Foundation teams. This allows Wikimedians using multiple wikis to set up a consistent reading experience easily, for example by switching between light and dark mode only once for all wikis. [108]
- If you use a very old web browser some features might not work on the Wikimedia wikis. This affects Internet Explorer 11 and versions of Chrome, Firefox and Safari older than 2016. This change makes it possible to use new CSS features and to send less code to all readers. [109][110]
- Wikipedia Admins can customize local wiki configuration options easily using Community Configuration. Community Configuration was created to allow communities to customize how some features work, because each language wiki has unique needs. At the moment, admins can configure Growth features on their home wikis, in order to better recruit and retain new editors. More options will be provided in the coming months. [111]
- Editors interested in language issues that are related to Unicode standards, can now discuss those topics at a new conversation space in MediaWiki.org. The Wikimedia Foundation is now a member of the Unicode Consortium, and the coordination group can collaboratively review the issues discussed and, where appropriate, bring them to the attention of the Unicode Consortium.
- One new wiki has been created: a Wikipedia in Mandailing (
w:btm:
) [112]
Problems
- Editors can once again click on links within the visual editor's citation-preview, thanks to a bug fix by the Editing Team. [113]
