Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests

Source: Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:..." or "The/This page could not be moved, for the following reason:..."

  • To list a technical request: edit the Uncontroversial technical requests subsection and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:

    {{subst:RMassist|current page title|new title|reason=edit summary for the move}}

    This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page.
  • If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
  • If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page.

Technical requests

Uncontroversial technical requests

  • Om Shakti  Om Sakthi (currently a redirect back to Om Shakti) (move · discuss) – The Tamil script does not formally have a letter for /ʃ/ and ஷ is imported from some other Indic script. Kailash29792 (talk) 12:03, 11 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Requests to revert undiscussed moves

Contested technical requests

Blåbärssoppa  Blueberry soup (currently a redirect back to Blåbärssoppa) (move · discuss) – Talk:Blåbärssoppa#How about move of the title? Turaids (talk) 18:22, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Bilberry soup is not a very common name, unfortunately, but any English term would be better for a soup that's eaten not only in Sweden, but also Finland or Iceland. –Turaids (talk) 14:09, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The bilberry article clearly states that it is different than the North American blueberry, so the request is unviable. It appears that Blåbärssoppa is the most common name used by people who actually eat the soup, so that should remain as the article title. The text can include variations that may exist in other countries, if relevant. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 14:20, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
162 etc., did you even read what I said? Super Ψ Dro 17:41, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Requesting this as uncontroversial is presumptuous at best, and bad faith at worst. Per WP:UE, "If there is no established English-language treatment for a name, translate it". Per your own comment, the sources concerning this subject are in Spanish; therefore we translate, per policy. Not necessarily opposed to Standard for Andalusian, but again, this is not the sort of thing you bring to WP:RMT. 162 etc. (talk) 18:46, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The current title corresponds to its official Chinese name. Cfls (talk) 17:35, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The official English name can also be corresponded to its Chinese name 天津大学 佐治亚理工深圳学院. And the translation you invented cannot be proved nor used by anyone, but the official name is recognized by the institute itself, Chinese government and academic journal. @Mehedi Abedin There isn't really an obvious common name. You can start a requested move discussion by clicking the "discuss" link above. C F A 💬 03:06, 9 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Iskandar323 There was significant opposition to this move at Talk:Macedonia (ancient kingdom)/Archive 17#Requested move 16 September 2021 --Ahecht (TALK

@ModernDaySlavery "Concision" is definitely the common name here. See ngrams for example. C F A 💬 13:24, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Why would you think this would be uncontroversial? Your ngrams show that uppercase is the common styling. Randy Kryn (talk) 13:21, 11 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
