A tag has been placed on Sheraton Doha Resort & Convention Hotel, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising that only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the general criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 11, as well as the guidelines on spam.

If you can indicate why the subject of this article is not blatant advertising, you may contest the tagging. To do this, please add {{hangon}} on the top of Sheraton Doha Resort & Convention Hotel and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would help make it encyclopedic, as well as adding any citations from independent reliable sources to ensure that the article will be verifiable. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Ecoleetage (talk) 12:56, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

I added tag {db-author} with the following explanation: "this article should be deleted before I will be able to find additional reliable sources" --Prokopenya Viktor (talk) 13:08, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
Sadly, someone removed the Speedy Delete tag and trimmed the article into a stub. But, in my opinion, it made the article even worse. Do you want to put it up for speedy delete again, or should we try to salvage it? Thank you. Ecoleetage (talk) 13:25, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
Ecoleetage, I restored the article with new references. Please, look it through. Is it acceptable now? If not, I will add deletion-tag again. Thanks --Prokopenya Viktor (talk) 14:17, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
I am sorry, but it is still a major problem. You are not quoting independent news sources -- you are quoting the hotel's marketing materials, which fails WP:RS. I would recommend a new request to have the page deleted. Thanks. Ecoleetage (talk) 14:38, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
P.S. I just put a new G11 tag on it. You are welcome to add the db-author tag, too. Unfortunately, the hotel does not currently meet Wikipedia notability standards. Ecoleetage (talk) 14:44, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
OK --Prokopenya Viktor (talk) 14:48, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
If I can also suggest that you try to fix the Clipper Harbor article you just created? You are using the yacht club's web site as a reference -- that is not proper for reference purposes, though it is okay as an external link. Thanks! Ecoleetage (talk) 14:51, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
The article has nothing to do with the hotel. In fact, the hotel is barely cited (one very brief mention). I would challenge it. Ecoleetage (talk) 15:07, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
  • I have finished my edits to the hotel article, and added the New York Times reference you mentioned. You are welcome to make any improvements to it you wish, but please try not to add excessively promotional text. --Eastmain (talk) 15:23, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Yaringa Boat Harbour Marina requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. JohnCD (talk) 13:29, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

  • There was a missing ">" character in your first reference, and that screwed up everything that followed. If you have problems with that kind of thing, a useful check to work through is that every <ref> is matched with a </ref>, all spelled right.
The reasons I tagged the article can be found in What Wikipedia is not, particularly WP:NOTGUIDE and WP:NOTDIR. I don't think "Wine is available at the restaurant by the glass or bottle" and "Unlimited free launching & retrieval services of your yacht or power boat by trained, caring staff" are really the sort of things an encyclopedia is here to publish - in fact I hesitated whether to use a {{db-spam}} tag for advertising, because a lot of it reads like an ad. Even if trimmed back to a more factual statement, it doesn't seem to me to satisfy the notability requirements of WP:ORG, the real test being, has someone independent of the organisation found it interesting enough to write about. As far as I can see, the Ross Probyn reference is irrelevant - it's about the same area, but it doesn't mention the marina at all, unless it's "in 1975, a marina (was) under construction"; and the other just says there's a pump-out there, which is hardly "significant coverage". However, it's not my decision - we'll see what an admin thinks.
One other tip - when you post on a talk page, it's useful to end your message with four tilde characters ~~~~, which the system converts into a signature of your user-name and the time and date - like this: JohnCD (talk) 14:39, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Multiple copy-vios on your article marathon

Viktor, whatever process you're using to create all these articles is lifting content directly from the sites you're referencing. Even if it's okay to do that, the continuing result is going to be non-notable articles that provide no better information than what is already on the official sites. The articles you're creating may be a good framework for other editors to add to and help with referencing, but no one will get the chance if the articles get deleted as quickly as you create them.
