Linking

Jonathan, thank you for your contributions to Wikipeida. Your recent edit to Ambrose Jessup Tomlinson here violated the Wikipedia policy on linking, and undid the clean up that I had performed on the article. You have made a number of other good edits, so I don't want to revert your edit en masse, so I'm going to ask you to undo the excessive linking that you have done on the article.

WP:OVERLINK specifically says:

"Unless they are particularly relevant to the topic of the article, it is generally inappropriate to link:
  • plain English words;
  • terms whose meaning would be understood by almost all readers;
  • items that would be familiar to most readers, such as the names of major geographic features and locations, religions, languages, common professions and common units of measurement (particularly if a conversion is provided);
  • dates."

Thank you in advance for cleaning the article up to reflect this policy. Ground Zero | t 17:08, 13 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

De-linking performed

I have gone through the article on Ambrose Jessup Tomlinson and removed what I think were all the excessive links. Thanks for pointing out the policy on that! I have left in the currently dead links to several historical figures and few other things that I intend to create pages for in the coming days... these include Nathan and Ester Frame, Culberson, North Carolina, the Theocratic Party, etc. Jonathan RA Maier (talk) 08:15, 15 June 2012 (UTC)Jonathan RA Maier[reply]
