Categories

Just a few comments on your recent category creations - it might be no bad thing for you to take a look at WP:Categorization. Categories need categories themselves - if they're not in the hierarchy then people can't find them and they're also hidden from bots and templates that do a lot of work behind the scenes. Categories should have the exact same name as their parent article - so ‹The template Category link is being considered for merging.› Category:Socii of Rome should be ‹The template Category link is being considered for merging.› Category:Socii as that's the name of the Socii article. Also be wary of creating WP:SMALLCATs and overcategorisation - 30-50 is a good number of articles in a category, 100 is not bad, 3-5 is too few in general, and you can always subdivide in future. So no need to split up the ‹The template Category link is being considered for merging.› Category:Tribes conquered by Rome depending on the government organisation of Rome at the time. Cheers. Biography feedback requested

Your input is requested about an RFC regarding Donald Trump. Here is a link directly to that RFC. The lead of that biography currently says, "Many of his statements in interviews, on Twitter, and at campaign rallies have been controversial." The RFC proposes to insert the words "or false" at the end of that sentence. Thank you in advance for participating. If you have the time, there is a second RFC at that talk page which proposes to instead add the words "or hyperbolic".Anythingyouwant (talk) 00:26, 4 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello Iazyges. Thanks for patrolling new pages – it's a very important task! I'm just letting you know, however, that you shouldn't tag pages as lacking context (CSD A1) and/or content (CSD A3) moments after they are created. It is also suggested that pages that might meet CSD A7 criteria not be tagged for deletion immediately after they are created. It's usually best to wait at least 10–15 minutes for more content to be added if the page is very short, and the articles should not be marked as patrolled. Tagging such pages in a very short space of time may drive away well-meaning contributors, which is not good for Wikipedia. Attack pages (G10), blatant nonsense (G1), copyright violations (G12) and pure vandalism/blatant hoaxes (G3) should of course be tagged and deleted immediately. Thanks. Rollback

Hi Iazyges. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

 • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
 • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
 • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
 • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
 • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! ~ Rob13Talk 06:45, 11 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Added Cities to WPMILHIST

Hi Iazyges, I think you are going off topic by adding all the old Roman Era cities into the military history project. I personally think if you added every city that has had a battle or fort in it to the MILHIST project, it would become more like WP Cities and lose the core of why MILHIST exists. Great job BTW on the work to get the Roman task force up and running. I hope it helps added needed coverage to their history. --Molestash (talk) 01:39, 23 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Molestash: I'm putting the tag their so we can make the article for forts later. Iazyges Consermonor Opus meum 01:43, 23 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think that makes any sense, and I think proves my point. There shouldn't be placeholder tags. But C'est la vie. --Molestash (talk) 00:21, 24 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Couldn't agree more, with Molestash. Seems like you're only going to dilute the usefulness of the project, and end up with lots of articles linked to the project which don't (yet, or, potentially, ever) actually relate appropriately to that project. Better, I think, to go in the opposite direction; for example, in this case, add the forts info to the article first, then link to the project. — pmcm 02:33, 24 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Issues with recent GA reviews

Iazyges, it is the extremely rare GA review that finds nothing wrong with an article: no grammatical flubs, no problematic sentences, nothing. Yet you passed two articles, Caracalla and Sino-Roman Relations, in a span of 16 minutes, without finding anything in either. They were both long, with a combined length of over 10,000 words.

I have already reverted your listing of Caracalla as a GA based on an examination of the article, which found a number of problems just reading through it, and I plan to revert your other listing because of those issues, since it's clear you're missing important flaws when you're checking articles. If you wish to review these articles properly to all the GA criteria, I'm fine with that, but given the problems with these, I strongly recommend that you get an experienced GA reviewer to take a close look at the article to make sure there are no significant prose or other issues and get this person's concurrence before giving the article a final approval.

I would also suggest that you take it slow on any future reviews, and gain more experience with the process, perhaps by nominating your own articles, to see how it works from the other side. Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 02:01, 24 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation pages - Rules for linking (Prince regent (disambiguation))

Hi,

Thanks for your good-faith attempt to improve this page by requesting more incoming links.

This would certainly be a good thing if it were a regular article. However, it (i.e. Prince regent (disambiguation)) isn't an article, but a disambiguation ("dab") page- i.e. a navigational aid.

Generally speaking, disambiguation pages should *not* intentionally be directly linked to, except where this would be useful for navigation. In fact, there *is* one link to the page, specifically from Prince regent. This is a typical example of when dab pages *should* be linked to; here, because anyone looking for (e.g.) the boats by typing in their name directly would be likely to arrive at that article first.

In most other cases, one should link directly to the subject, like such:- HMS Prince Regent (1823) or Prince Regent.

If you're not familiar with the concept, you might find the article on disambiguation and the associated manual of style entry useful.

Hi. I came across this page while patrolling and notice the citation format is off; you're using short citations but there's no corresponding list of references they point to. I presume "Livy I.43" refers to passage 43 in Book 1 of Ab Urbe Condita Libri, but other than that I'm fairly lost. Can you fill out the references with the works' titles, full author names (and, in the case of Encyclopedia Britannica, URL)? It would greatly aid in verifiability. —0xF8E8 (talk) 22:07, 25 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Not the end of the world, but generally- *especially*- when one is doing curation work, it's a good idea to pay attention, since the aim is to improve things! All the best, Ubcule (talk) 15:38, 25 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from page name; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted copied template on the talk pages of the source and destination.
