When can i load pictures on Wikipedia page ?

Thank you for your note regarding my edit to Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Charotar University of Science and Technology after you tagged it for speedy deletion (CSD G13). I sometimes visit Category:Candidates for speedy deletion to try to rescue articles that other editors have tagged for deletion, and this was an article submission that had been untouched for more than six months. As it happened, there already was an article about Charotar University of Science and Technology in article space, so I abandoned the articles-for-creation submission after I discovered a full article already existed.

There are a lot of rejected articles-for-creation submissions that could be turned into adequate articles. Of course, I recognize that many other rejected submissions cannot be salvaged. I would like to encourage more editors to visit Category:Declined AfC submissions to look for rejected submissions that seem to be about a notable topic and fix them.

I'm simply not the best at article-rescuing. I don't have an interest where I have a ton of offline sources for, or that I'd feel comfortable researching solely online. Most G-13 eligible submissions don't have a lot of sources, on top of that. The main reason why I began nominating G-13 eligible submissions is that I don't expect anyone to show up and clean up an eye-crossably bad article, and oddly enough, I don't feel qualified to do it myself, at least to the point of having the article have a 50/50 chance of surviving AfD. Hello again,

There has been some issues with the Khan Yunis massacre article we discussed a while back. A somewhat biased administrator of Israeli origin has given it a poor rating on WikiProject Israel's scale and claimed it to violate POV (I have since refuted the latter argument, no need to worry about it.)

If you'd be willing, I need a completely neutral, uninvolved individual to reassess the article. While I believe it deserves better than a Start rating, even if it is still deserved, there's no harm in checking, right?

If you'd be of assistance, that'd be greatly appreciated!

I am very cautious about editing articles under sanction.

Yes, the article creator needs a PROD notification, but the article creator, if the article was created years ago, is often inactive, rendering the notification pretty close to pointless. It isn't like the creator is likely to respond until months or even years after the fact, you know?

I'd rather people be upset over a frivolous notification, than have people upset over a non-notification because they could've done something to fix the article. Really, said ability to rescue an article is pretty hard to assess--even an AWBer or vandal fighter might have the ability to do so.

I'm not sure what the problem is within Wikipedia, but when I upload my photographs many times someone within the bowels of Wikipedia questions as to whether the photos are mine. When I say 'mine,' I mean, I held the camera, snapped the shutter, and recorded the scene. From that moment forward the images, IAW with US intellectual property laws, are copyrighted to me, the originator. However, for the sake of aiding Wikipedia with images to improve their site, I have contributed my 'copyrighted photos' (that phrase is redundant). Because no one on Wikipedia can write in clear text messages, I'm not sure what the problem is. Is the problem that I have marked them in a particular manner as copyrighted, or is someone questioning that they are mine to contribute? I could use an answer to those questions.

As I'm not well-versed in writing html code my skill sets are limited to taking photos and adding them in appropriate pages for Wikipedia. What I do object to are do-gooders who question my images, and promptly suggest to the powers that be that my images be removed because they are some sort of violation. What am I violating by putting MY images up? Help me out here? Is there a particular magic copyright phrase I'm supposed to select when I contribute images to Wikipedia?

I frankly don't have the time as many of you obviously have to play games on Wikipedia with non-sensical diatribes back and forth regarding a picture or two. The bottom line is that they belong to me--I took them, and I should be able to contribute them without some Gestapo-type interventionist telling the world that my photos are not mine. Upon what are these accusations based? Did I mislabel the copyright somehow? Are they saying I never took the photo(s)? Can someone answer in simple, concise, clear English to me?

The problem within Wikipedia is that, with limited exceptions regarding fair-use images that can't be replaced, we can't accept fully copyrighted images, and your images are fully copyrighted. It doesn't matter that you hold the copyright. What matters is that it's fully copyrighted. If you want your images to be used on Wikipedia freely, you'll have to release them under a copyright license like CC-BY-SA.

Another problem is that I'm not even sure if it's confirmed that you are Dan Lindsay, and not somebody impersonating Dan Lindsay. I dream of horses (T) @ 16:49, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

• Dan, very plain language: the reason the image was nominated for deletion (follow the link) is that an editor doubted you were really the photographer and thought you uploaded from another website. • Which, again, is not supported by policy; read Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials, which simply says (to paraphrase) sign up and upload to Commons. Commons likewise doesn't suggest OTRS is required for all editors (see Commons:OTRS#Licensing images: when do I contact OTRS?). Admittedly, some people, even if they are Wikipedia editors, do use OTRS simply because they are already notable professional photographers and the photographs have likely already been published (Allan Warren comes to mind). For the general editor, such as you, Dan, or I, a simple declaration of consent such as a free license is enough so long as there is no indication that an image was previously published. — Crisco 1492 (talk) 02:38, 25 September 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the cookies. I am trying to improve the quality of my town's wiki page but I find wiki over-complicated and the in-house language is isolating. However, I will persevere and with friendly help from people like you I am sure to succeed ;-)

Perhaps you could help with one thing;

1) I would like to place the town's official logo on the site (I believe there is a specific location for it under "logo")but try as I might it never works...

I kind of know what to do, but I'll admit to never having uploaded a picture.

The answer to your question would depend on the copyright status of the logo--some governments (like the US government) make a habit of immediately releasing images into the public domain, and copyrights also expire. We accept copyright licenses other than public domain, but I'd be surprised if a town logo were to be licensed under said licenses. So I'll just assume it's either fully copyrighted, or in the public domain, but I might be wrong, too.

If it's public domain, you can upload it directly to Wikimedia Commons, which is a "sister project" to Wikipedia. That way, any language Wikipedia can use it, not just the English Wikipedia.

If it's fully copyrighted, you'll have to wait four days, and have ten edits to upload the logo under a fair use exemption using the file upload wizard. I dream of horses (T) @ 04:28, 27 September 2013 (UTC)

I have uploaded images before to wiki commons (I am responsible for all bar 1 image on the page). I did previous edits under "filedstones" but forgot my password and could never retrieve it. I therefore just created a new profile. The image is copyright but I have the express permission of the Town to add it to the page.

Unfortunately, having express permission isn't enough. Somebody that has the right to release copyright has to relicense the logo under something like this Creative Commons license, or the GNU free documentation license, both which allows people to distribute and modify the logo for both commercial and non-noncommercial purposes as long as the person doing it attributes it properly.
