Steve Lee ( born August 25, 1974[1] ) is an artist, actor, singer/songwriter, and brother of comedian Bobby Lee. Steve has been interviewed many times through various media including respected artist David Choe, award winning internet celebrity Kassem G, comedian Sam Tripoli, Asa Akira to name a few.[2] [3] [4] [5]
Early life
Lee grew up in Minnesota before his family moved to San Diego, California where he did most of his schooling. He is the son of Jeanie and Robert Lee. The younger brother of Bobby Lee, he attended Poway High School in Poway, California and wrestled in high school and twice made it to the State championships .[6] [7] Much like Bobby his life was plagued with addiction and pain. He went to Arizona State University and got into the underground hip-hop scene there.[8]
Career
After spending decades working in the customer service industry Steve got some roles with his brother Bobby on Mad TV.
David Choe & Mangchi
Through Bobby, Steve met esteemed underground artist David Choe and Choe loved Steve so much, that around 2015, he brought him on David's famous podcast DVDASA (Double Vag Double Anal Sensitive Artist), a lifestyle, relationship and entertainment podcast with co-host Asa Akira.[9] [8]In 2014 David also started a punk band Mangchi which means ‘Hammer’ in Korean, with Steve Lee as the frontman.[4] [10] [11] Mangchi has toured America and appeared at many famous events including Steve Aoki's fashion show in 2017 [12] [13] as well as the 2018's Grizzly Fest. [14] [15] Steve Aoki has also collaborated with Mangchi releasing remixes of the group's songs.[16] [17]
In the band's lineup are featured appearances by David Choe, Steve Lee, Money Mark, Dylan Fujioka, Eddie Kim, Heather Leather, Gillian Rivers, Ceci Dee Cee, James Jean, Bobby Lee, Bobby Hundreds, Critter Fleming, Bill Poon, Bobby Trivia, Prince Paul, Charm Killings, Desirée Elyda, Asa Akira, James Jean, Daniel Wu & Die Antwoord.[18]
The Steebee Weebee Show
Inspired by his brother Steve also started a podcast called The Steebee Weebee Show. The format usually follows a musical intro and guest interview that lasts for around an hour followed by a musical animation created by Lee and later in collaboration with his girlfriend. In an interview with Asa Akira, Steve says that he makes enough money with his podcast to pay his rent.[19] As the host of The Steebee Weebee Show he also himself interviewed countless celebrities including Sasha Grey, Asa Akira, reclusive artist Neckface, Beastie Boys' member Mark Ramos Nishita, aka Money Mark and many more.[20]
