In 2007, Google introduced street view for the first time to 23 cities in the United States.[1] In 2008, it expanded coverage in the continental United States to the Washington D. C. in addition to the mainland part of the country and Alaska.[2][3][4]

In 2008, Google launched street view for the first time in Canada[5] and Mexico.[6] In 2010, coverage was expanded in the state of Tijuana.[7] In 2010, street view was added for the venues of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Canada.[8] In 2011, some parks were added in the state of California.[9] In December 2011, Google launched street view for certain parks in the US, one of them being the High Line.[10] In addition, following the launch of the Google Art Project, coverage of the interiors of some museums in the United States was added, one of the most important being the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.[11] In August 2012, Google published street views of several archeological sites in southern Mexico.[12] In 2012, Google added coverage of several sites in the United States, including the Indianapolis Motor Speedway,[13] Kennedy Space Center[14] and Google Modular Data Center[15] in addition to some national parks in California.[16] In September 2012, Google added street view to several U.S. and Canadian university campuses.[17] In November 2012, Google introduced street view for Cambridge Bay located in the far north of Canada.[18]

In 2013, Google launched views of the Grand Canyon and Meteor Crater. In February 2014, Google introduced street view in Churchill in northern Manitoba.[30] In the same year, Google introduced street view to more university campuses in North America, which includes University of Regina,[31] University of Calgary & University of Manitoba[32] in Canada; University of Miami & University of Georgetown in the United States.[31] In 2015, street view was launched for Greenland[33] in addtition to some US landmarks, including Ford's Theatre,[34] El Capitan,[35] parks in Bucks County[36] and boat views of the Potomac River and the Anacostia River along the Washington D.C. coast.[37] In 2016, Google introduced street view for remote areas of Alaska and northern Canada including Nome, Unalakleet, Galena,[38] Kangiqsualujjuaq and Nain[39] in addition to tourist places in the US such as the Hazeltine National Golf Club[40] and Bruce Wayne's Residence in Orion Township, Michigan.[41] In this year, the city of Saskatoon received coverage of several tourist sites including boat tours of the South Saskatchewan River,[42] in addition to the Sable Island in Nova Scotia.[43]

In 2017, coverage was expanded in Greenland,[44] in addition to some parks in the city of Philadelphia including Fairmount Park[45] and shopping centers around the U.S. such as Susquehanna Valley Mall[46] and Hagerstown Valley Mall.[47] In 2018, Google launched street view for 100 km of the Waterfront Trail in Canada[48] and virtual tours of the Universidad Iberoamericana campus in Mexico City[49] and International Hot Air Balloon Festival at Leon Metropolitan Park.[50] For this year, Google launched street views of 11 Disney parks around the United States[51] in addition to several sites in Albuquerque to celebrate the anniversary of Breaking Bad[52] and some nature reserves in California including Emerald Bay State Park, Eagle Falls trailhead, Mount Tallac & Lake Tahoe.[53] In 2019, Google launched street view for Devon Island in Canada's far north, in addition to introducing street view for several parks in Arizona[54][55] including Granite Mountain Hotshots Memorial State Park[56] and state trails in Minnesota.[57] In 2021, Google introduced new virtual views using a tripod of the White House in the United States.[58]

In December 2016, Google introduced street view in Puerto Rico[59] and United States Virgin Islands.[60] In 2017, Google introduced street view to Guatemala, the first country in Central America to have this coverage.[61][62][63] In 2018, Google introduced certain tourist sites located in Costa Rica using a trekker in addition to the Cocos Island.[64] In 2019, Google started driving in two cities in the Dominican Republic, Santo Domingo and Santiago de los Caballeros.[65]

In 2010, Google introduced street view to three Brazilian cities, namely Belo Horizonte, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo; Brazil being the first country in South America to receive this coverage.[66] In 2011, Google introduced street view to Brasilia,[67] the capital of Brazil and several cities in the south of the country, one of the most important being Curitiba and Porto Alegre.[68] In 2012, street view was introduced to the city of Manaus, capital of Amazonas State.[69] In the same year, Google introduced street view for 3 Chilean cities, Santiago, Valparaiso and Concepción.[70] In August of that year, Google began driving in Colombia.[71] In 2013, Google finally published the first images of the streets of Colombia[72][73] and Peru[74][75] to street view, in addition to expanding coverage in Chile to other cities, one of the most important of which includes Antofagasta, Temuco, Arica and Iquique.[76][77][78] In the same year, it was also added the Aconcagua Summit in Argentina[79] and Campus Curicó in the University of Talca, Chile.[80] In the same year, Google published several views using trekkers of the Galápagos Islands.[81]

In 2014, street view Argentina was introduced for the first time, for this same year, some landmarks were also added in both Argentina, Brazil and Chile such as 2014 FIFA World Cup venues,[82] Instituto Teletón[83] and San Ignacio Miní.[84] In the same year, Google collaborated with the National Forestry Corporation of Chile to provide street view to different parks in the country,[85] in addition Googl also expanded the street view coverage in the department of Antioquia and Medellín in Colombia.[86] In 2015, Google introduced street view to different national parks in Brazil and Colombia including Gorgona Island Natural Park, Los Nevados National Natural Park, Salamanca Island Road Park,[87] Tijuca National Park, Fernando de Noronha Park[88] and Juma Sustainable Development Reserve.[89]

In 2015 for Chile, street view was introduced to Punta Arenas[90] in the southern part of the country and several beaches around the Chiloé archipelago.[91] In addition, this year, Peru also received street view in several landmarks such as Machu Picchu[92] and some churches in Lima such as the City Cathedral.[93] In October 2015, Google launched street view for cemeteries in the Brazilian city of São Paulo.[94] In the same year, street view was introduced for several South American countries including Bolivia,[95] Ecuador[96] and Uruguay.[97]

In 2016, street view was introduced to different landmarks in Colombia such as archeological parks including San Agustín[98] in addition to libraries in Bogotá, Neiva and Medellín.[99] In the same year, Brazil also received street view in several fabelas[100] in addition to Rio 2016 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games venues.[101] Also in 2016, Google published street views of more than 40 tourist sites around Bolivia,[102] in addition to several national parks in Argentina.[103] In 2017, Google introduced street view to different tourist sites in the Eje Cafetero in Colombia, in addition to some beaches in Ilhabela[104], several national parks[105] and tourist sites in the Brazilian state of Ceará.[106] In this year, Google added the Crossing from Los Andes in Chile to Mendoza in Argentina,[107] in addition to several neighbourhoods in Buenos Aires.[108] In 2018 for South America, Google introduced street view to Santa Cruz del Islote in Colombia,[109] Grey Glacier in Torres del Paine National Park, Chile[110] and 11 shopping centres around Argentina.[111]

In 2019, street view using a trekker was introduced for certain neighborhoods around Buenos Aires,[112] in addition to several tourist sites in the Colombian cities of Bogotá[113] and Medellín, specifically the Moravia commune.[114]

In order to celebrate the 2008 Tour de France, Google launched street view of several tour locations in Europe.[115] In October 2008, Google introduced street view to several French,[116] Italian[117] and Spanish[118] cities. In 2009, street view was introduced in four western European countries, the United Kingdom,[119] the Netherlands,[120] Switzerland[121] and Portugal.[122] In 2010, street view was introduced in several northern European countries, including Denmark,[123] Norway,[124] Sweden[125] and Finland,[126] in addition to Ireland[127] and 20 cities in Germany.[128] In the same year, German stadiums were also introduced,[129] in addition to Frogner Park in Norway.[130] Following the launch of Google Art Project in 2011, several museums were added around Europe such as Palace of Versailles, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia and Alte Nationalgalerie, in addition to several tourist sites in Italy such as Roman Colosseum[131] and the Palace of Caserta;[132] the National Botanic Gardens in Ireland; Egeskov Castle in Denmark;[133] Alps Railways in Switzerland;[134]parks in the Netherlands;[135] theme parks,[136] châteaus[137] and Palace of Fontainebleau in France.[138] Also in 2011, it was introduced of street view to Monaco[139] and Belgium,[140] in addition to several European islands such as Lanzarote, Menorca[141] Jersey and Isle of Man.[142]

In 2015, Google introduced street view to different landmarks in Europe such as Walloon Parliament, Citadel of Dinant and Mardasson Memorial in Belgium; Dún Aengus in Ireland;[163] in addition to 57 Portuguese monuments including the Belém Tower, the Jerónimos Monastery and the Pena Palace.[164] Also this year, Google published views of Loch Ness in Scotland[165] in addition to Northumberland National Park in England,[166] Mount Etna in Italy[167] and several hiking trails in Switzerland.[168] Also in 2015, Google introduced adapted street view views to two aircraft in Europe, an Air France Boeing 777 at Charles de Gaulle Airport[169] and an Airbus A318 at London City Airport.[170] In 2016, Google introduced views of Schiermonnikoog National Park in the Netherlands,[171] Mont Blanc between Italy and France,[172] North Downs Way and other walking paths in the UK[173] in addition to other sites such as Westminster Abbey in England,[174] Miniatur Wunderland in Germany[175] and Dublin Airport in Ireland.[176]

In 2017, Google introduced street view to the Faroe Islands[177] and Malta[178] in addition to the publication of several sites in Europe such as train stations in Madrid Metropolitan Area,[179] Pembrokeshire Coast Path in Wales,[180] Cotswold Way in England[181] and some tourist sites in Liguria, Italy.[182] In 2018, some cities in Austria were introduced to the service,[183] also Google integrated into street view the Stelvio National Park in north-eastern Italy[184] and the Cygnus offshore gas platform in the North Sea,[185] in addition to several sites in Spain such as Barcelona Zoo,[186] RCDE Stadium,[187] Mount Pindo[188] and tourist sites in the Guadarrama Mountains.[189] In 2019, Google introduced street view to several places in Europe such as Urban Archaeological Park of Brancaleone Vetus in Italy,[190] boat views of the Shannon River in Ireland[191] and some trails around Fløyen Mountain in Norway.[192] In 2020, Google will publish several views of sites in Italy such as Orta Lake,[193] Valle delle Ferriere State Reserve,[194] Scaletta Mountain, Chersogno Mountain and more than 200 km of trails in the Maira Valley,[195] as well as the Gwynedd Coast in Wales[196] and boat views of the Royal Canal in Ireland,[197] in addition to a expansion in the coverage of Austria.[198] In 2022, Google published views of the Les Invalides hotel in France[199] and the Milan Cathedral in Italy.[200]

Eastern Europe

In 2009, Google introduced street view to the Czech Republic, the first Eastern European country to get this service.[201] In 2012, Google introduced street view to both Poland[202], Ukraine,[203] Latvia and Estonia; in addition to several UEFA Euro 2012 stadiums.[204] In addition, in the same year, coverage was expanded in the Czech Republic[205][206] and street view was introduced to the first Balkan country, Croatia.[207] In 2013, Google introduced street view to Hungary[208] and some tourist sites in Poland such as Wieliczka Salt Mine.[209] In 2014, Google introduced street view to Slovenia in addition to new coverage in several Russian cities such as Sochi.[210] This year tripods and trekkers were also used to photograph some tourist sites such as Bran Castle in Romania, Čachtice Castle in Slovakia[211] and Sochi Autodrom in Russia.

In 2010, street view was introduced for the first time in South Africa being the first country in Africa to receive this type of coverage, in addition, Google also photographed several states that were used in the 2010 FIFA World Cup that took place in this country.[253] In 2012, street view was introduced to Botswana, the second country in Southern Africa to receive street view, and in addition Google cars had passed close by nature reserves in the country such as Chobe National Park & Makgadikgadi salt pans.[254] In 2013, street view was introduced to Lesotho[255] and Eswatini.[256] Also in 2013, street view was introduced to Mount Kilimanjaro,[257] the highest mountain on the African continent. In 2014, Gombe National Park[258] was added. In 2015, street view was introduced to several national parks in Madagascar in addition to the Barren Islands and Sambirano river,[259] other African countries also received street view in other parks or islands such as South Africa with Robben Island[260] and Kenya with the Samburu National Reserve.[261] In 2016, Google introduced street view to two Ugandan cities, Kampala and Entebbe, making it the first East African country to have normal street coverage,[262] in addition to the Kruger National Park in South Africa.[263] Also in this year, street view was introduced to Réunion Island, an overseas territory of France.[264] In 2017, Google introduced street view to different cities in Ghana[265], Senegal[266] and Lagos State in Nigeria;[267] in addition to several parks in Uganda such as Queen Elizabeth, Kibale, Murchison Falls, Mount Elgon and Kidepo Valley,[268] and South Africa with national parks such as Royal Natal National Park, Tugela Falls, Otter Trail, iSimangaliso Wetland Park and Mapungubwe National Park.[269] In 2018, Google introduced street view to Kenya[270] in addition to views at various tourist sites around Nigeria such as the Lekki Conservation Centre, the Millennium Park and the Olumo Rock.[271] In 2019, street view was launched in 4 Nigerian cities[272] which are Abuja, Ibadan, Benin City and Enugu in addition to 21 national parks in Kenya.[273] In 2022, street view was introduced to some of Mali's historical sites such as the Great Mosque of Djenné.[274]

In June of 2012, street view was introduced to different islands in the state of Hawaii,[275] in addition, underwater views were also added to this state and the Great Barrier Reef.[276] In December 2013, Google published photographs of several remote U.S. islands, including Pearl and Hermes Atoll, Lisianski, Laysan and Tern Islands.[277]
