Young Sherlock is an upcoming streaming television series set to release on Prime Video. The series is an adaptation of Andrew Lane’s Young Sherlock Holmes book series, themselves a pastiche of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s original Sherlock Holmes stories. The series will be directed by Guy Ritchie and will star Hero Fiennes Tiffin as Holmes.
Synopsis
"At age 19, Sherlock Holmes is disgraced, raw, unfiltered, and unformed, when he finds himself caught up in a murder mystery at Oxford University which threatens his freedom. Diving into his first-ever case with a wild lack of discipline, Sherlock manages to unravel a globe-trotting conspiracy that will change his life forever."[1]
Production
The series was first reported by the tabloid newspaper The Mirror in April 2024,[2] before being officially confirmed in May.[3]
The series will be written and showrun by Matthew Parkhill, and directed by Guy Ritchie, who had previously helmed two cinematic Holmes adaptations: Sherlock Holmes (2009), and Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (2011). The role of the nineteen year old Holmes will be played by the twenty-six year old Hero Fiennes Tiffin who had previously worked with Ritchie on The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.[4]
According to Lane, filming is set to commence in August.[5]
Release
Young Sherlock will consist of 8 episodes and will air on Prime Video.[4]
