Hello! This WikiProject aligns closely with the work of the GLAM-Wiki initiative (Galleries, Libraries, Archives, and Museums), a global community of volunteers who assist cultural institutions with sharing resources with Wikimedia. GLAM-Wiki US is a new community initiative focused on organizing cultural collaborations within the United States. GLAM organizations are diverse and span numerous topics, from libraries and art museums to science centers and historic sites. We currently have a backlog of interested institutions- and we need your help! Are you interested in helping with current or future GLAM projects? Join→ Online Volunteers

Virginia Women in Red
Might I draw your attention to a new redlist of notable Virginia women who lack a wikipedia biography, in the form of Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red/Missing articles by dictionary/Dictionary of Virginia Biography - drawn from the "Dictionary of Virginia Biography". Virginia: Library of Virginia.
Right now, there are more than five times as many biographies of men as there are of women on wikipedia - see the Wikidata Human Gender Indicators page. I hope this project will lend its support to addressing this imbalance by creating biographies for women within your project's scope, and perhaps by adopting the Dictionary of Virginia Biography redlist. More generally, WikiProject Women in Red has more than 300 redlists covering perhaps 100,000 notable women for whom we have no biography. thanks
Google Earth Pro
While viewing Colorado in Google Earth Pro I noticed if you click on Sterling Colorado an article about Sterling Virginia appears with information about VA not CO. The article about VA has the correct GPS cords in the article but it's showing up in CO when you are looking in Google Earth Pro.
Random in category
I run the toolforge:Randomincategory tool, and I've noticed in my error logs that there are lots of people linking to the tool with Virginia-related categories that are using the invalid parameter "namespace=article" (the namespace parameter is looking for a namespace number, not a namespace name -- if you want to view only articles you should use namespace=0
). The categories being searched are Category:Virginia, Category:Geography_of_Virginia, Category:People_from_Virginia, Category:Landmarks_in_Virginia, etc., which made me think it might be related to this WikiProject. The link would look something like https://randomincategory.toolforge.org/Virginia?site=en.wikipedia.org&namespace=article
, [[:toolforge:randomincategory/Virginia?site=en.wikipedia.org&namespace=article]]
, or {{random page in category|Virginia|ns=article}}
. Does anyone know where this is being used so that it can be fixed?

List of members of the Virginia House of Burgesses: article needing attention
Hello! While I'm all for redlinks, the sea of red at List of members of the Virginia House of Burgesses is a set-up for failure. I removed a redlink to William Melling, an actor alive today, and noticed the article also links to a New Zealand mayor and an Australian cricketer. It would be helpful if an editor familiar with this topic could unlink articles that are unlikely to meet WP:GNG/WP:NPOL, while retaining genuine redlinks for members that might merit a future standalone article. Thanks! IgnatiusofLondon (talk) 17:28, 18 February 2024 (UTC)
