Ice Hockey Wiki

The Ice Hockey Wiki on Wikia would benefit from many of the articles that get deleted here for non-notability. Powers T 12:32, 24 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yup, in general when we delete such a page we point people towards that wiki. That being said we revive many of these pages as soon as they meet notability and undelete them. -Djsasso (talk) 14:52, 24 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
So in an example like Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Spokane Chiefs (W.I.H.L.), who does the pointing, and whom is pointed? Powers T 15:13, 29 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It usually just comes up in comments to the creator on their talk page or in the deletion discussion that maybe it might be better on that site. That being said thats usually only in cases that are hotly debated I suppose. At one point someone was doing copy pasting over there. I know I did for awhile, but usually what gets deleted here has so little information its not really worth the effort. -Djsasso (talk) 15:18, 29 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There needs to be discussion about revising WP:NHOCKEY to include any player drafted by an NHL team. There are extensive draft lists on Wikipedia for each NHL draft year, each drafted player is linked regardless of whether a page exists for them yet or not. It is a disservice to the Wikipedia user to not be able to click on that link to find out more information about players drafted by their favorite team, simply because they haven't reached certain arbitrary criteria. It's one thing if the player was never drafted. But once a player is drafted by an NHL team it should be assumed that the player has achieved notability. Many players drafted never every play in the NHL or become notable. Some never even play professionally in the minor leagues. You aren't notable until you get written about in the papers and books etc extensively. This is what NHOCKEY is about, trying to show when a player is likely to be written about extensively. Players drafted in the last round of the draft that never go on to anything else aren't written about extensively. -DJSasso (talk) 12:24, 15 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If you're interested in more information about seventh rounders drafted by your favorite team, I recommend your local newspaper, which generally publishes blurbs about them, even if they're only a paragraph in length, or the team's own website. We don't assume that all draftees achieve notability, and you'll find there's strong sentiment across the board on the sports Wikiprojects that there's no presumptive notability for players who've never played at the top major professional level. We're actually one of the more liberal projects in that regard, in so far as we accord presumptive notability to many career minor leaguers.  ῲ Ravenswing ῴ  15:43, 15 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Why should we assume notability simply because the player was drafted? There are over 200 hockey players every year that get drafted. NHL Central Scouting has rankings for about 400 draft eligible players in total. So, being in the top half of that isn't all that noteworthy. Notability is based on the fact that a player has sufficient coverage in reliable sources. The 200+ players selected wouldn't all fall under that criteria. You can try bring this up at the main project to get more people looking about it, but be cognizant of the fact that this has been discussed extensively in the past. Consensus has been reached that only 1st round picks are notable enough for an article based purely on being drafted. Patken4 (talk) 19:45, 15 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Why doesn't Kane Lafranchise or Derek Couture show up on the list of Ice hockey-related deletion discussions? Dolovis (talk) 22:45, 26 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like a mistake on my part. I always assumed that a bot handled that - AnomeBOT removes items from that list, after all. Regardless, I've always marked XfDs at Wikipedia:HOCKEY#Candidates_for_deletion_&_discussion. But I'll correct the other page as well. Thanks for noticing that.
