Hi everyone! Great idea for an edit-a-thon. I edit *A LOT* about food, restaurants, organizations and food culture (I even started the Long's Bakery and Mug-n-Bun articles recently!). It can be tricky, and often requires both a mix of national and local sources.
I see some hyperlocal Indianapolis food-related organizations listed here. But, the sourcing so far presented is very hyperlocal. Please make sure to find one or two national sources, if possible, to also source. Or white papers, travel books, etc, or whatever that document these organizations and spaces. I fear that the Gleaners Garden, for example, is probably too hyper local to survive a deletion discussion if the only sources available are all local newspapers and small town publications. Same with the individualized community gardens. Might be ideal just to merge them into the articles about their respective neighborhoods/towns (i.e. Lawrence, Indiana). I do think Gleaners is long overdue for a Wikipedia article given it's historical nature in Indianapolis and decades of news coverage in various iterations of statewide papers and perhaps national publications.
So just a gentle warning (not to be a Debbie Downer, I am one of the more experienced editors with deletion discussions and have seen a lot of heart broken new and old editors regarding articles!).
Wish I could be there, but regretfully I am back in California. I look forward to seeing everyone's contributions and doing my part from a distance. Missvain (talk) 15:47, 18 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
