Colon in markup?

The headers for each section look like ====[[:Article Title]]====. What's the purpose of the leading colon? -- RoySmith (talk) 16:12, 18 September 2019 (UTC)

Categories and files, which would look ok while still deleted and explode messily when restored. —Cryptic 18:07, 18 September 2019 (UTC)
I'm not following. Could you say that slower? -- RoySmith (talk) 21:13, 18 September 2019 (UTC)
If you link to a file using [[File:Example.jpg]] then you display the image on the page instead of linking to it. If you link to a category using [[Category:Example]] then you include the page in the category instead of linking to it. Putting a colon before the namespace prevents this from happening and turns them into links. Hut 8.5 21:15, 18 September 2019 (UTC)
Sure, I understand that for files and categories. But, why is it done for normal articles? Or do people just do it out of habit for all pages, whether it's needed or not? -- RoySmith (talk) 21:18, 18 September 2019 (UTC)
I guess it's easiest to make everybody follow the same instructions instead of listing special cases. Hut 8.5 21:26, 18 September 2019 (UTC)

August 2019 archive funky (discussion not collapsed)

In Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2019 August 31, the discussion for Draft:Securities and Exchange Commission v. Electric Bond and Share company is (correctly) shown collapsed. In the monthly archive view, however, it's not. Anybody have any clue what happened? -- RoySmith (talk) 20:08, 21 September 2019 (UTC)
