Welcome! Some Wikipedians have formed a project to better organize information in articles related to Worcestershire. This page and its subpages contain their suggestions, resources, and things to do. If you would like to help, please inquire on the talk page or check out the WP:WORCS/ToDo page.
You do not need to be a member of this project to work on any Worcestershire related articles, but if you join by adding your name below it will help coordination, avoid duplication of effort, and also help improve any other articles of which you are one of the major contributors.
Any content on this page is open for discussion, but with the exception of adding to or commenting on the To do and Members list, or making a minor edit, please first discuss any proposed major changes on the talk page.

Before making any major edits to articles or stubs, please be sure to read WP:WORCS/HowTo, and if you wish to refer anyone to that page, you can use the shortcut WP:WORCS/HowTo.

Urgent tasks are now listed here: WP:WORCS/ToDo. It should be referred to often, and participants are recommended to keep the page on their watchlists. If you wish to refer anyone to that page, you can use the shorcut WP:WORCS/ToDo.

Brief news

Evolution of Worcestershire county boundaries since 1844 was promoted to Good article on 3 September 2014. Largely the work of Bellow558, a Worcestershire Project member, the article was reviewed by Mike Christie.

Hanley Castle High School was was promoted to Good article on 30 August 2012. There are 78 good articles for educational institution of all kinds of which there are 4 GA for secondary schools in the UK. Hanley High School is the first state school in the UK to become GA.

Evesham was nominated on 2 December 2010 as a Good Article Candidate. The nomination unfortunately failed due to unforeseen unavailability of the editors working on the article. It only requires minor attention to be renominated.

Malvern, Worcestershire: A peer review has been requested here prior to eventual nomination for FA. The peer review was successfully concluded. This article is now a potential candidate for Featured Article nomination.

Update: That PR was quite a while back and the article has evolved much more since. There are some fresh comments on the talk page and any help would be welcome.
Update: now listed (26 Nov 2016) as a Featured article candidate and waiting for the review process to begin.
Update: The FAC was declined. At 1 April 2018, the article is near ready and only needs some minor tweaks to the referencing system and some further CE.

List of Old Malvernians: The Peer Review prior to eventual nomination for Featured List, is completed. Issues were raised that may make promotion of this list article to FL very difficult, if not impossible.

Worcester Castle was awarded Good Article status on 27 October 2011. Largely the work of User:Hchc2009 , the article was reviewed and promoted by User:Malleus Fatuorum.

The photo that was Picture of the Day

The photo by David Iliff of the medieval cloisters in Worcester Cathedral appeared as picture of the day on 5 October 2016.

Urse d'Abetot was awarded Featured Article status on 13 October 2009. Promoted by Karanacs, the article was 96.4% the work of Ealdgyth. It was featured on the main page on 14 April 2018.

Project

Aims

The purpose of this project is to provide guidelines for any Wikipedia articles regarding or mentioning Worcestershire and anything in the county. This can cover everything from visual style and formatting to content and organization. All articles need not be identical, and there is obviously a wide variety of information which may be appropriate to some articles and not to others.
The ultimate goal is to make it easier for Wikipedians to create high quality articles related to this subject matter, and also to make it easier for readers of these articles to find relevant information in consistent format and location.

 • Founder members: complete this project (in progress) front page with needed banners, templates, and categories.

 • stimulate comments and discussion about the project, the articles, and the work, on the project's talk page.

For the project

 • Place the WPWorcs-Scope banner template ('This article is part of the Worcs project') on article talk pages.
 • Actively invite other editors to join the project by placing a banner on their talk pages, or by inviting them to come and help out on a particular article. Find a list of former article contributors by clicking the contributors link on the top of the article's history page.

What's been done already?

 • Work has already started by heavily expanding and improving many of the Malvern related articles
 • Stubs created on the MHD civil parishes within the category Villages in Worcestershire.
 • Photos on all settlement articles (in progress).
 • Project banners placed on all Worcs related articles except people.
 • Schools now have infoboxes populated from available sources; logos/crests if available; details from Ofsted or SIS reports (if available). A few schools still have problem areas.
 • Created article Malvern Museum.
Good Articles
 • Malvern, Worcestershire has been promoted to Good Article. This status is a Wikipedia reference for quality, and although not a first in the county, it is the first for a major article in our project and is a milestone for teamwork.
 • Malvern water has been promoted to Good Article. It is the second major teamwork effort from the Worcs project members.
 • Malvern College has been promoted to Good Article. It is the third major teamwork effort from the Worcs project members.

To Do

This Worcestershire project covers about 1,200 Wikipedia articles. The 'to do' items on the WP:WORCS/ToDo page are only the very urgent ones. You can search for all the other articles alphabetically or by type according to your field of interest in the list of special pages below. They also have regularly updated maintenance notes that you can add comments to, or the  Done done tag. There is also a complete list of all schools in Worcestershire.

ADD anything urgent you come across and are not able to fix immediately, to the lists on WP:WORCS/ToDo. (articles are listed by kind of action required and may need listing in several of the lists if they have multiple issues).
The recommended priority for creation/improvement of articles is:

 1. Sourcing unreferenced BLPs. See the bot created list for our project at Bot updated list.
 2. Places in the county (in order): Districts, Cities, Major towns, Minor towns, Town suburbs, Villages Hamlets, Parishes, town/city neighbourhoods, very large housing estates.
 3. Schools in the county (Particularly susceptible to vandalism - please keep them on your watch lists if possible).
 4. Transport in the county: road, bus, rail, air, waterways.
 5. Notable buildings/objects/geo features/AONB/Heritage sites, etc. in the county
 6. History in the county
 7. Industry & Commerce in the county.
 8. People in the county
 9. County related articles about things not actually in the county, and/or other related projects.

ToDo List feature

The Wikipedia ToDo List feature is a little used (little known?) tool which could be very useful for collaborative work, especially during a drive by several editors to improve an article, or to get one up to GA or FA status. It's extremely easy to install and implement - see: Wikipedia:To-do list However, do note however that the functions to be used to add, delete, or edit items on the list are the edit · history · watch · refresh links, and not the Here are some tasks you can do text link.
The category is automùatically added so that the page appears in Category:Wikipedia pages with to-do lists. Anything done can be checked off with the done ( Done) template.
have fun with the tool.
