Welcome to the collaboration between Amnesty and Wikimedia UK

The aim of this project is to improve the human rights content on Wikipedia. We hope to do this through engaging with Amnesty International volunteers, Wikiproject Human Rights and new and existing Wikipedia editors.

By helping to ensure that the content on Wikipedia relating to human rights is up to accurate and up to date, you can help educate and empower people.

    • Creating an account

Creating an account is easy. step 1: Go to the Wikipedia main page and select your language step 2: click on the "create account" link on the top right step 3: choose a username and password, hit create and you're away!

There are useful hints and tips on how to edit

The [Teahouse] page on Wikipedia is a space where users can ask questions, learn about the Wikipedia community and interact with experienced Wikipedians.

If you have a specific question, you can place {{Help me}} on your talk page and a volunteer will try their best to assist you


    • How to find research from Amnesty?

Amnesty International continuously release a wealth of well documented, in depth reports on human rights violations. These can be searched for by [country] or by [topic] on their website. The initial focus of the project will be on improving the human rights content by country.

    • How to find a relevant Wikipedia page?

Initially the project will focus on improving the content of the top and high importance articles that are of stub or start quality. The table outlining these can be found here.

    • How to edit?

Wikimedia UK can provide training and booklets with useful information.

There are also online tutorials that you can do in the form of training for students/ notes on editing or a more interactive guide

    • How to cite research correctly?

Unreferenced material is likely to be removed by other Wikipedia users so it is important to properly reference the information you add. Citing is east and step by step guide can be found here
