The 2011 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Final was a soccer match between Seattle Sounders FC and the Chicago Fire played on October 4, 2011 at CenturyLink Field in Seattle, Washington. The match was the culmination of the 2011 tournament, which was open to amateur and professional soccer teams affiliated with the United States Soccer Federation. This was the 98th edition of the U.S. Open Cup, the oldest ongoing competition in American soccer. Seattle Sounders FC won by defeating the Chicago Fire 2–0 with goals scored by Fredy Montero and Osvaldo Alonso. The attendance of 36,615 at the final set a tournament record. Seattle had previously won the 2009 and 2010 tournaments, making them the first team since 1968 to win three consecutive championships (trophies pictured) and the fourth team to do so in the tournament's history. • Reasons for nomination: I'm nominating this article to run on the same day as the playing of the 2014 US Open Cup final. I believe this would be more relevant than running the article on the anniversary of the event and is a great opportunity to increase awareness of this 101-year-old tournament. Also one of the participants from the 2011 final has returned to the final this year adding to the relevance.

  • Actually Aston Villa F.C. ran on 16th August, and a 2007 American sports game is the TFA on 29th August - see Wikipedia:Today's featured article/August 2014 (TFAREC needs updating for the rest of August, as it says).
