Suspected sockpuppets


The suspected sockmaster Vibhas Kashyap was blocked for his disruptive editing on Indian TV show related articles, especially Yahan Main Ghar Ghar Kheli, on 10th and 16th May 2012. The suspected sock Viraj Kashyap started editing on 19th May 2012 on the same article. He has also received many warnings for his disruptive editings on the same article. Common last name, similar editing patter and account opening just after the first account was blocked make me suspicious. Also both editors are SPAs and have been editing only articles related to Zee TV i.e. the shows on them and the actors who are known only through these shows. (How do i show this fact?     • Declining this, as I don't see the need for a check at all. These accounts share the same last name (which probably indicates meatpuppetry), edit the same/similar articles in the same ways, edit during the same times of the day, don't edit during the same times of the day, neither use edit summaries... in short, they're very obvious ducks and I'm blocking them as such. After the master Vibhas Kashyap (talk · contribs) and previous sock Viraj Kashyap (talk · contribs) were blocked on 15th July 2012, this new user started editing from 16th on their hobby horse Yahan Main Ghar Ghar Kheli. The sock's edits so far have been on articles Fear Files: Darr Ki Sacchi Tasvirein (which was addition of copyvio material), Rab Se Sohna Isshq, Hitler Didi, Zee Gold Awards; all related to Zee TV; just like the previous master and sock. The user also insists on adding same stuff again & again 1, 2, 3 even if it is present in the article and is being reverted for that reason. §§AnimeshKulkarni (talk) 14:09, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think that Kashyaps are same as Noors. Kashyaps are dedicated Zee TV editors whereas Noors have been editing mostly on TV awards and other various TV actors and show articles. (Noors might also have some target articles; but i haven't yet figured out that. Will scratch my head for some time.) The scene is that there are many vandals and illerate SPAs on Indian TV articles. Psychonaut, its the other way round. One Noor has been on talk pages, but none of the Kashyaps have been there. This new Kashyap however has started a dialogue with me. Are you sure? Noormohammed satya has 0 talk-space contributions, and Noor119848 also has 0 apart from page moves or templates. Likewise both accounts have 0 User talk contributions, except to blank the dozens of warnings they have received. —Psychonaut (talk) 15:57, 17 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The user came back with a new login id and left me a lovely note. But he signed himself as User:Vishal Deshraj, who is already blocked as a sock on 18th July.
Note: The first two users never talked much. But now i suppose they have started talking. In case any admin wants to try to discuss with them how they can use their original account by requesting unblock or whatever the solution for this is (I dont know all ways of unblocking oneself.), i am ok with that. I personally don't want to do all that headbanging because if this user is allowed to edit, i will mostly have to invest time and energy trying to get him edit properly. Two days after the previous sock User:Amoli Dave was blocked, this account was created. Its first actions were to remove copyvio templates from User:Amoli Dave's articles, and to recreate List of accolades received by Pavitra Rishta (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views), an article of User:Amoli Dave's which has already been deleted three times. The article created by User:Twinkle Gupta seems to be exactly the same as the deleted article; it's unlikely a genuinely new user would have had access to the wikitext source. Behavioural evidence makes it clear that this is a sockpuppet of Vibhas Kashyap. The user is concerned exclusively with Zee TV-related articles, and has continued the same sort of disruption on Yahan Main Ghar Ghar Kheli that the sockpuppeter was blocked for. The user has made repeated requests to retrieve the text of the sockpuppeter's deleted contributions ([3] [4] [5] [6]), and claims to be familiar with their contents despite their account having been created long after the deletions ([7]). Other disruptive activity includes creating new versions of articles which already exist (such as Ramayan (2012 TV Series) and Yahan Main Ghar Ghar Kheli) and then redirecting the existing articles to their versions, or else copy-pasting their articles into the existing ones. Of course the other socks edited talk pages. This has been discussed already in the archive. (Some of the talk page edits may no longer exist because the corresponding page has been deleted.) Account is reverting Ramayan (2012 TV Series) and Yahan Main Ghar Ghar Kheli to the sockpuppeteer's preferred versions.   •  Clerk endorsed I feel it is rather likely that this is a sock, but I appreciate the point of view that there is not enough evidence to justify a duck-block. Checkuser evidence would definitely be helpful in this case. This said, should the check come back as unrelated, I strongly urge against viewing this as indisputable evidence that the account in question is unconnected.  CheckUser is not magic pixie dust.   • In this case, the UTRS request serves to nullify the requirement for the diffs that are usually required for checkuser cases. Here, the checkuser data indicates that the Priya koonjan account is unrelated to both the VICTORIA BROWN9 and Aarushi Chauhan accounts (who, incidentally, are confirmed as being related to each other). --(ʞɿɐʇ) ɐuɐʞsǝp 17:51, 18 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Sorry for being unclear here. What I mean is that the fact that the checkuser has come back as unrelated should not be a "get out of jail free" card. It is still possible that there is a link between Priya koonjan and Vibhas Kashyap, and should evidence surface in the future to demonstrate that, this check should not be used to overrule that evidence. I thought you were saying I shouldn't unblock, which left me very confused: if I would decline to unblock even if the CheckUser came back negative, then CheckUser evidence would have no effect on my decision, so why would I be asking for it in the first place? Same modus operandi on their hobby horse Yahan Main Ghar Ghar Kheli—that is, the user creates their own version of the page under a new title or over a redirect (in this case Yahaan Main Ghar Ghar Kheli).
