These two accounts have a large amount of overlap on obscure pages despite their relatively low edit counts. See interaction report. Some of this could perhaps be explained by a shared interest in WWII, but other pages such as File:Mary_Gates.jpg, Da_Vinci_Kids_logo.svg, Draft:Christopher Paul Richards, Susie Hargreaves, etc. seem highly unlikely for two different editors to take interest in. Both accounts have very poor English skills, to the point that their posts are almost nonsensical; compare The Hydrophilian [1][2] and SwissArmyGuy's comments here. Note that the master is arbcom blocked and globally locked. Spicy (talk) 22:36, 27 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oh, I remember this guy. I agree with Spicy, there's enough weirdly specific overlap here that this is probably the same person. Hydrophilian also has a similar distribution of activity on other Wikimedia projects to SwissArmyGuy. Blocked, lock request filed. Behavioural evidence makes it clear that this user is using IPs in the 122.2.xx.xx range to evade their block. These IPs edit the same extremely specific set of articles that SwissArmyGuy and The Hydrophilian were interested in. Examples:

  • Changing the name on Dino Jelusick: SwissArmyGuy [3], The Hydrophilian [4], 122.2.99.126 [5][6]
  • Infobox fiddling at The Eternal Jew: SwissArmyGuy [7], The Hydrophilian [8], 122.2.98.48 [9], 122.2.99.126 [10]
  • Interest in Hermann Zapf: SwissArmyGuy [11], The Hydrophilian [12], 122.2.99.126 [13]
    • And his wife: The Hydrophilian [14], 122.2.96.154 [15]
  • Interest in Pathé News: SwissArmyGuy [16], 122.2.97.13 [17], 122.2.98.48 [18]
  • Template:Nazi propaganda: The Hydrophilian [19], 122.2.108.148 [20]
  • File:The Rocking Horse Winner poster.jpg - uploaded by The Hydrophilian, fiddled with by 122.2.97.13 [21]

There are many more overlaps, see here for just one example. A large portion of the recent activity on the 122.2.96.0/20 range seems to be from this user, although it looks like there might be some other users on the range such as one who likes editing Filipino TV shows. Spicy (talk) 04:28, 20 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Re. RoySmith - yeah, at the time I filed the SPI these IPs were pretty active, but I don't see any edits that look like the sockmaster on the range since after August 22nd. Not sure anything needs to be done at this point. They tend to edit the same pages but it's a pretty wide set of pages so not sure if it's worth protecting them all. •  Clerk note: The IPs mentioned could be covered by a 122.2.96.0/20 block, but I see a lot of other activity on that range which appears unrelated. Maybe if we took the few most commonly abused pages from here and semi-protected them that would do something useful, but I don't see a range block being a good tool here. -- RoySmith (talk) 19:18, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Clerk note: @Spicy: I'm going to close this for now. If there's any specific pages which are getting abused, use WP:RFPP and cite this case, or if you prefer, just ping me directly and I'll be glad to take a look. -- RoySmith (talk) 19:18, 29 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings! I've never filed one of these before, and not meaning to offend either editor if I'm mistaken, here goes. Checking Houndsworth contributions from Oct 9-12 the timestamps are very close to but never overlap with Serendipodous contributions from the same period. In general they have both been recently editing material related to fiction set in the future, which has been the subject of several deletion discussions.

Looking at the messages left on my talk page from 30 Sep to 12 Oct by these two accounts, Serendipodous sounded angry to the point of unproductively venting, though in the end reasonable if unsatisfied. The messages left by The Houndsworth also sounded angry, and by the end seemed to degenerate into trolling, which is why I just dropped the thread. I found this extremely weird because The Houndsworth account had just been created on Oct 8. At first I thought this just might be a confused person who didn't speak English very well or who wasn't familiar with how Wikipedia works, but The Houndsworth demonstrated familiarity with image deletion which is something Serendipodous did previously. The Houndsworth also requested undeletion of a file Serendipodous was angry about having been deleted (based on the User talk:Beland messages they left). • I noticed The Houndsworth a few days ago and have been keeping an eye on their edits. I have a sneaking suspicion that they are actually a sock of SwissArmyGuy (see Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/SwissArmyGuy/Archive). They share the same interests in German history, RSN (esp. relating to COVID) [22][23][24], and non-free file deletions [25][26][27]. As noted by the filer, The Houndsworth also has very poor English skills, which is another hallmark of the SwissArmyGuy socks. I'm not familiar with Serendipodous but a glance at their contributions shows that they have been editing since 2005 and speak English at a native level, so I personally think it's unlikely that The Houndsworth is their sock. Looking at contribution histories, Cyberpunk 2029 is pretty clearly the same person as 98.169.172.42. They edit the same set of articles over the same period, namely articles on future years, future sports, Tesla cars, and The Foxbusters. I'm wondering if this is also the same person as User:The Houndsworth, which was blocked as a sockpuppet of SwissArmyGuy? What makes me suspicious is the poor English grammar of some edits, the interest in a similar set of articles (future years), and the fact that Cyberpunk 2029 was created 3 days after The Houndsworth was blocked, but seems to be confidently editing some of the same articles. Many of the edits of 98.169.172.42 are getting reverted by various editors. -- Beland (talk) 19:14, 12 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

This account shares the sockmaster's characteristic interest in non-free files (see edits to file namespace: Frontman, The Houndsworth, The Hydrophilian, SwissArmyGuy), RSN ([28][29] vs. [30][31][32]), deletion of pages relating to child actors (see [33] vs. [34]; [35] vs. [36], etc.) and WWII. Also has the same incoherent writing style: compare [37][38][39] to posts like these [40][41][42]. Page overlap is not quite as strong as it was with previous socks, though there is a bit - particularly on Talk:Black Lives Matter, which The Hydrophilian edited extensively. I haven't requested Checkuser since all the previous socks are stale and the behavioural evidence seems pretty obvious to me, though maybe a sleeper check would be a good idea since this is the first filing in a while. It's impossible! What can I do with this evidence, so I'm not being accused or alleged, but I should defend my claims as a puppet. --Frontman830 (talk) 22:34, 28 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • CheckUser requested and endorsed by clerk - given the fairly specific interests and their English I'm inclined to say it's them, but I'd appreciate it if a CU could see if the location matches the logs - it looks like some log data is available, judging from the comments on The Hydrophilian in the archive. GeneralNotability (talk) 19:52, 1 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Possible. The general geolocation is a match to past SwissArmyGuy socks. I think the technical result combined with the behavioral evidence is sufficient to block.  Blocked and tagged.  No sleepers immediately visible, closing. Mz7 (talk) 22:08, 1 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Overlap with past socks on a variety of niche topics, and focus on RSN [43]. Distinctively incoherent communication style, as documented in previous SPIs: compare e.g. [44][45] and [46][47][48]. Interest in file namespace deletions, see [49][50][51][52]. Involvement in infobox disputes, same as previous sock Aesthetic Writer: [53][54][55] Cross-wiki activity in Commons projectspace [56][57]. And so on. Spicy (talk) 23:43, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Shortly after having been blocked yesterday, the LTA is back with his utter nonsense about Vasily Utkin's infobox being somehow related to Ukraine and subjected to ArbCom sanctions: [diff 1], [diff 2], see also this. — Mike Novikoff 09:30, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
