Mdd97 has a history of expanding the commercial performance sections in album-related articles [1] [2] [3]. Another editor Muhandes reported Mdd97 at WP:AN for refusing to communicate back in February, the editor has been blocked by Ritchie333. The editor created another account called Redsky00, that account has been blocked by NinjaRobotPirate back in March. It appears that the editor is block evasion by using multiple accounts [4] [5] [6]. TheAmazingPeanuts (talk) 21:14, 1 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Tamzin: I'm not good at explaining these kind of edits, if you compare the edits at Pitbull Starring in Rebelution [7] to the edits at Montana [8], the edits are very similar to each other, such as linking RIAA certification with a capital C. The editor also has a bad habit of adding the website Album of the Year (which is not an reliable source WP:ALBUMAVOID) in articles [9] [10] [11] [12]. Additional information needed. @TheAmazingPeanuts: So, looking at Special:Contribs/2607:FEA8:E1F:7AD0:0:0:0:0/64 (the range that contains these IPs), I do see some generally similar behavior. But you could you point me to either one edit by 2607:FEA8 that has a strong similarity to an edit by Mdd/Redsky? Or to a distinctive thing that both 2607:FEA8 and Mdd/Resky do (e.g. "They always format references a certain way")? -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she/they) 00:36, 7 November 2021 (UTC)
- @TheAmazingPeanuts: Not sure why you're saying you're not good at this. This was a quite helpful explanation, better than I get on most cases, even. Thanx!
:)
Looking at this, the problem I run into is that so much of the writing in these sections is so formulaic. Take the phrasefor combined sales and album-equivalent units of over 500,000 units in the United States
. There are only two people who frequently use it: Mdd97 and 2607:FEA8/ (grouping that stale IP based WHOIS and geolocation). However, others have used it. JaseDinero (talk+ · tag · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · spi block · block log · CA · CheckUser(log) · investigate · cuwiki) (who used it here) could well be Mdd. Deeeogo (talk+ · tag · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · spi block · block log · CA · CheckUser(log) · investigate · cuwiki) (who used it here) has some noticeable similarities but also some noticeable differences. But I doubt Mdd is actually a sock of Giubbotto non ortodosso or Marie610 (who used it here and here respectively). A lot of people are copying formulaic writing they've seen in other articles. This IP user has been editing in this topic area for years, and as best I can tell has never picked up a warning other than the one level-1 at User talk:99.235.50.13#March 2020. Furthermore, MDD's block was for failing to respond to concerns, not for conduct that on its own would be blockable. I'd say there's maybe a 60% chance that this is the same person, but I don't think I can justify taking action against a long-term editor who hasn't caused trouble based on use of things that people often reuse. So I'm going to close this without action for now. @TAP, if there are edits from this IP range in the future repeating the issues that Mdd was warned for in the past (removing footnotes, overlinking), feel free to refile and ping me. If they don't return to that, though, then I don't think any harm is being done, honestly even if it is the same person. (And if that seems like an unusually soft stance for a clerk to take, I think WP:BMB gets a little murky when the initial block isn't 100% "for-cause".) -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she/they) 07:28, 7 November 2021 (UTC)
