Suspected sockpuppets

User:Gabriel Ziegler and I have an ongoing dispute about a map that he has added to German colonial empire. User:Adelchi Bosco was created today and his only edits are to revert my restoration of the status quo (diff: [1]) and this comment on the talk page (diff: [2]). This is disruptive, as it is Creating an illusion of support and Contributing to the same page or discussion with multiple accounts.

User:Adelchi Bosco also behaves similarly to User:Gabriel Ziegler:

  • Both users open by reverting the restoration of the status quo (Bosco; Ziegler 1; 2; 3).
  • Knowing about the revert machinery also seems a bit WP:PREC.
  • WP:SIM User:Adelchi Bosco writes in the same style as User:Gabriel Ziegler, e.g. "more quality" as a way of saying "higher resolution" (diffs: Adelchi Bosco; Gabriel Ziegler), referring to insets in the map as "zooms" (diffs: Adelchi Bosco; Gabriel Ziegler, in edit comment here)
  • User:Adelchi Bosco claims that the new map is better than the old one because it is sourced, when in fact it isn't (diff: Adelchi Bosco), a strange claim which has been made repeatedly by User:Gabriel Ziegler in edit decriptions (1, 2), but not in the talk page discussion that User:Adelchi Bosco is replying to.

Can someone check if there's a link with this LTA :
  • Same interest in maps about colonies
  • Both are active on Spanish Wikipedia
  • Here we have the LTA and the user making the same edits with very similar maps but different colours (LTA; Ziegler).
Might be a case of WP:MEATPUPPET if not WP:SOCKPUPPET.

Even if i did a sock puppet. I saw his contributions and there's one at the Portuguese wikipedia of Maturin. Some at the Spanish Wikipedia. And some at the English one. He's not interested like me on colonies, i am not active at the spanish wikipedia. Also the French Colonial Empire one, was because of an error. Not to replace it. Guinea-Bissau is included in the actual map of the French Colonial Empire's page, and that's a giant mistake, Guinea-Bissau was always controlled by Portugal, called Slave Coast at the time. Portugal controlled it since 1588 until 1974! So, i decided to replace it. Also comment that Adelchi Bosco is a real person, He's Italian and he was born in Maturin, Venezuela. I really do not know how to prove it. I just told him that i had some miss understandings with some Wikipedians, and he decided to create a new account because he forgot the password of his old one that is called SpectreGoe. Another similarity, both claim to be from various european (User:Britishlad18, Portugaltheo20) or latin american (Boliviaalchema18, Colombia23Alberto) countries.

Clerk, CheckUser, and/or patrolling admin comments

  • Looks pretty obvious based on the diffs. I also note that both of these accounts have edited the Spanish Wikipedia [3][4] even though their editing history doesn't show any particular affinity for Spanish topics.     @Spicy: I ran a quick check following Gabriel's comment above; not sure if it has any impact on the recommended course of action here, but for what it's worth, Adelchi Bosco == SpectreGoe (talk+ · tag · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · spi block · block log · CA · CheckUser(log) · investigate · cuwiki) per CU; the technical relationship between those two and Gabriel Ziegler is consistent with the explanation provided above; CU can't exclude the possibility that this is socking (that's still entirely possible), but I'd call the technical data more consistent with off-wiki cooperation. --Blablubbs (talk) 09:51, 21 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    Well that's unexpected, but OK. Considering that Gabriel Ziegler openly admitted to recruiting his friend to back him up in this dispute, I'll assume good faith and treat this as ignorance of Wikipedia policies rather than malice. Gabriel Ziegler and Adelchi Bosco - please be aware that, per WP:MEAT, actively recruiting new accounts or users on Wikipedia, or recruiting people (either on-wiki or off-wiki) to create an account or edit anonymously in order to influence decisions on Wikipedia, is prohibited. A new user who engages in the same behavior as another user in the same context, and who appears to be editing Wikipedia solely for that purpose, may be subject to the remedies applied to the user whose behavior they are joining. I am not going to request a block for now, but if you continue to edit to back up your friends you are likely to be blocked. I will leave a note on the article talk page. Closing.
