A recent string of vandalism on the article Weekly Shōnen Jump (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) had lead me to believe that it is all by the same person. Cow cleaner 5000 started the ball rolling by making various edits that Weekly Shōnen Jump is a terrorist organization connected with al-Qaeda. At around the same time that Cow cleaner 5000 is indefinitely blocked for vandalism, George harold rodgers places a fake copyvio notice on the article. After he was reverted and summarily blocked, Lovestolive2014 and Snited Uates put in fake information about how the magazine was banned or should be banned in various countries citing non-existent sources. Normally, one wouldn't think that these accounts are connected, but I want to ensure if the article is being targeted by one person or a group of people, which will determine whether the article needs a short term or a long term semi-protection. —Farix (t | c) 13:16, 1 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Do you expect an administrator to look through every edit made by these accounts to try to find what you mean by "Weekly Shonen Jump related vandalism"? Really, it is extremely unlikely that any admin would do that: you should have provided a few diffs, indicating which particular edits you were referring to. However, as it happens, that is all irrelevant, as the accounts have been blocked for other reasons anyway. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 20:30, 17 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The issue is not the blocking of the accounts. The issue is that the underlying IPs need to be checked for sleepers or newly created accounts likely to be Cow cleaner 5000. WP:DUCK has already led these to be already blocked, but SPI is still needed to notify a checkuser to look for other sleeper accounts in this ever growing sock farm. Everyone who deals in this area recognizes CC5K so quickly he can usually be blocked within minutes of his first edit under a new account. What we're doing is building a library of socks and asking the checkuser to help us minimize ongoing disruption by taking out his sock farms and/or proxy IPs he's using so we can slow this annoyance down. --Jayron32 20:35, 17 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I feel WP:DENY might be relevant here, the vandal has clearly shown he gets gratification from stirring up drama (such as at WT:ANIME this time) and validating his efforts with a LTA page would only further his urge to troll. It's easier imo to just revert and block as he's not a major threat (sticks only to a few pages, has obvious editing patterns and is easily identifiable). @Vanjagenije: Cow cleaner 5000 (CC5K) has rather unique areas of fixation, including Weekly Shonen Jump, ecchi/hentai, Justin Knapp, and Islamic terrorism. Usually he tries to claim they are all related. Greater Wings linked ISIL, ecchi, and Weekly Shonen Jump in this edit. That's a duck with a megaphone. For Mawile, the editor edited on pornographic magazine and Hustler claiming they promote terrorism. Past socks have edited on pornographic magazine trying to relate it to Weekly Shonen Jump ([11], [12]) and occasionally terrorism ([13]). Mawile's edits ([14], [15]) mirror the exact wording used by a past sock ([16]). Let me know if you need more evidence. EvergreenFir (talk) Please {{re}} 18:12, 21 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • (semi-interested, non-admin) I have recently reported a number of CC5K's socks so I am by no means a fan of this pain-in-the-butt but I am very confused by this SPI. It says "Blocked from behavioral evidence." but then this log shows that TWENTY edits by the user have been DELETED leaving no evidence of the user's behavior. Why were all of these edits deleted and where is the discussion to do so? IMHO, removing edits that are evidence is not helpful unless there is a very good reason. Koala Tea Of Mercy (KTOM's Articulations & Invigilations) 08:48, 28 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
KTOM the evidence has been seen, reviewed and the user blocked as a result. As the edits were all page creations, it is just slightly unfortunate that removing the vandalism removes the evidence from plain sight. Nthep (talk) 09:05, 28 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks @Nthep: deleting new page creations makes sense although I still think there probably should have been some sort of more detailed explanation (or a speedy discussion of the page deletions somewhere) since there is no way for a non-admin to "recognize" the behavior and thus report possible socks. Is there any way to for someone like me to know the nature/names of those deleted articles? Koala Tea Of Mercy (KTOM's Articulations & Invigilations) 13:57, 29 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Also, it looks like CC5K may finally be getting a little more subtle. Note the less-than-a-rant "more civilized" comment left in this diff which was reverted by admin @Bongwarrior: 24 minutes later. Koala Tea Of Mercy (KTOM's Articulations & Invigilations) 13:57, 29 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for bringing this up. Source 1 is false, the article is not about Weekly Shonen Jump. Sources 2 and 3 have already been debunked as fake. Source 4 is definitely fake; Anita Sarkeesian critiques video games, and has nothing to do with anime/manga. #5 is suspicious as well as a Google Search for "Tom+Morris"+"Christian+America" "Tom Morris" + "Christian America" brings up nothing. #7 and #8 are demonstrably false, the links go to completely different articles. Brusenburg vandalised Weekly Shonen Jump (magazine) with false links to terrorism.

Tuttermouse follows MO of creating accounts based on the names of other users and edited User:Koavf. Created Futanari (criminal organization), fitting with their MO of drawing links between anime/manga/pornography related topics. Then nanmechecked several people who could "prove" his innocence, all of which have been involved in dealing with his vandalism and/or reporting. [25] . Vandalised WP:AIV when Brusenburg was blocked[26]. Accounts are already blocked as CC5000, but the information is needed for the archive and history. DebbieRinger clearly passes the WP:DUCKTEST. Rantanriolla, on the other hand is much less clear. While the "Shueisha is becoming IRRELEVANT" and "That is the TRUTH" quotes along with the misrepresentation of the Thompson article does indicate that this _could_ be CC5K, there is enough room for doubt that I believe a check user is necessary for conformation. —Farix (t | c) 13:38, 9 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
