Nightwish song

Where does the opening riff from Nightwish's "Moondance" come from? I'm pretty sure I've heard it in another song before, but can't remember where. NeonMerlin 02:08, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have no evidence to back it up (other than a very musical mind) but it remind me of the music in Pirate of the Carribean during action sequences. Maybe this helps? 12.155.80.115 (talk) 18:49, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ozzy Ozbourne page ammendment proposal

I happened to be listening to the "comedy" influenced band Bowling for Soup, and became reminded of an old movie I used to own named Trick or Treat that included John "Ozzy" Ozbourne as a cast member. The lyric involved Ozzy's acting career and Trick or Treat is the oldest acting role I'm aware of. I feel his role has some kind of humorous, but not direct, association to the band's song and I found no mention of the film in the page.

I think this is a bit funny but I don't know where to edit such a thing. If you can help with that I will appreciate it.

I appologize if this is the wrong location for this comment. I haven't used this site for this type of purpose before and I am confused.

Welcome to the Ref Desks! You're right, Ozzy's role in the film isn't mentioned in his article Ozzy Osbourne, but it is mentioned in the article on the film itself Trick or Treat (1986 film). Ozzy's page on the Internet Movie Database [1] shows that he has appeared in quite a few films, but the article on Ozzy doesn't seem to have much on them. Why don't you be bold and edit the article to include some details of them, including a few cross-references to other Wikipedia articles and external sources like IMDB? Good luck! By the way, the best place to ask questions on how to use Wikipedia is the help desk. --Richardrj talk email 09:07, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Non-violent films with Violent-sounding names`

I'm sure someone will be able to help me with this, I'm stuck and feel like an idiot. I need the name of a film (preferably well-known) that has a name that sounds like it's violent, but which actually isn't.

I'm currently writing a story in which parents are discussing their childrens' viewing habits, and I want one of them to say "My son wanted to watch [x] but I banned him from seeing it becuase I didn't like the sound of it." I'm trying to think of a well-known film that the reader will know to be completely okay for a young person to watch. (Hopefully this will up the humour content of the story by at least a chortle.) But I'm stuck. Any suggestions? Phileas (talk) 17:02, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Checking a quick list of G movies and PGs aimed at kids, I can only suggest Corpse Bride as a recent release that might suit your purpose. Older titles such as Kicking & Screaming or The Little Vampire might not have the same relevancy. Does this work? I can probably find names of other films that are not quite so violent sounding, but still evoke negative imagery. Coreycubed (talk) 17:29, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Corpse Bride is a great suggestion, thanks! It works as it's the kind of title that gives parents nightmares yet people who know films would probably know it to be relatively harmless. I'll add it in now, and it'll stay there until I think of a better title, which will probably be never. Cheers! Phileas (talk) 17:46, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

On a related subject, see Barenaked Ladies#Early Canadian success. Barenaked Ladies is a band (all of whose members are male and dress normally) that was once banned from a concert at the Toronto City Hall purely because of its name. --Anonymous, 00:08 UTC, February 15, 2008.

WarGames? ---Sluzzelin talk 11:24, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Go to imdb.com and type violent words into their search box. Something recognisable is bound to appear. Sandman30s (talk) 15:11, 18 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

StepMania songs from Castlevania

Where is a StepMania song set or mix or whatever it's called that is from Castlevania? 71.220.215.234 (talk) 17:58, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Have you tried searching the database at BemaniStyle? Confusing Manifestation(Say hi!) 22:35, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I just tried. It didn't work. 71.220.215.234 (talk) 00:53, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
There's a version of Vampire Killer on DDR Universe, labelled "Castlevania", if that helps. HYENASTE 02:35, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Question form de.WP: Why do american presidential candidates point on persons with their finger before starting to talk?

Hi, we have a question at german wikipedia: When american presidential candidates enter a election campaign event, they seem to point with their finter an imaginary people, like: "Hey, nice that you are also here!". What is the ambition of this behavior? Has it a historical background? Question from http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Auskunft#Seltsame_Politikergeste_.28USA.29 . blu-ray/hd-dvd quality vs dvd (not picture)

Might as well ask.. Some people (me) find DVD basically a bit 'cheap' eg

  • standard DVD case
  • can't fast forward past copyright notices in 20 languages (despite the fact I've told the player I'm wanting english language version)
  • Discs tend to include pointless extras eg voiceover by cast/director/directors mum, trailers, slideshows etc (If you think this is a good feature please ignore)
  • DVD players are generally very cheap and nasty in physical build quality
  • DVD player menu/OSD generally seem to be unreadable/programmed by cats (includes players from major manufacturers)
  • there might be other things

I'd like to know if hd-dvd/blu-ray is as bad in terms of some of the issues I have mentioned above. In general the 'taking it up the ass from <it>insert studio name/sony</it>' feeling I get from DVD's.? In context I found VHS ok, and CD (as well as betamax) to have a good quality feel. Thanks in advance for your responces.87.102.114.215 (talk) 18:46, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Same stuff (though I confess confusion that DVD cases are "cheap" when, apparently, paper VHS sleeves are not). Studios love the ability to lock out fast-forwarding, many people like the special features, there's no standard whatsoever on how a menu should be presented, and as with most consumer products, quality scales with price. — Lomn 18:55, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's that 'recycled recycled bin bag black plastic' that does it for me - I noticed that blu-ray had specific packing (transparent) - that has a bit more class. So you've on hand experience and we get the same crap on the new discs eg 'that operation is prohibited'. Bummer.87.102.114.215 (talk) 19:01, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Most of those disadvantages do not exist with Laserdisc, I also find that the packaging's resemblence to phonograph record packaging gives it "class". Don't forget the (theoretically) superior analogue audio. 206.252.74.48 (talk) 16:32, 15 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
