Updated work plan
As my role was extended for an additional three month, I devised an updated work programme. It focuses on three edit-a-thons around three strategical topics of the NIHR (see below).
Aim 1 - Coverage of NIHR as an institution on Wikipedia
Progress
Rapid reaction to name change
In April 2022 NIHR changed its name to National Institute for Health and Care Research to emphasise its commitment to social care. After the change became official I have updated the name on Wikipedia too to show NIHR how fast Wikipedia can react to new developments.
Articles on top researchers
As part of the new work plan, I'm creating articles each month for the most important researchers working with NIHR. So far I have created a draft article for Lucy Chappell, director of NIHR (waiting for a second opinion on this one) and Waljit Dhillo. I have also extended multiple articles of other NIHR researchers.
Aim 2 - Adding NIHR research to Wikipedia
Wikipedia editing
I have added research evidence from a Catching cancer early collection to the following Wikipedia articles:
I have added further research evidence from NIHR to Wikipedia articles.
Wikipedia training for CED
I have organised an online Wikipedia training for members of NIHR's Centre for Engagement and Dissemination. Twelve participants took part in the three hours long workshop and I'm doing follow-up consultations with them individually.
Organising first thematic edit-a-thon
We have started organising the first edit-a-thon. The topic, identified with the help of the steering committee, will be multimorbidity. We have also started organising an edit-a-thon for patient and public representatives.
Aim 3 - Advocacy
Publications
I have written an article about the residency on NIHR's blog and gave an interview for The Scotsman for their piece about the project.
UK Knowledge Mobilisation Forum
We presented our work on Wikipedia with Candace Imison at the UK Knowledge Mobilisation Forum in Liverpool on 4-5 May. We held two interactive workshops where we presented the opportunities of Wikipedia and what we do at the NIHR. We also included a session at the end where participants could edit a Wikipedia page step by step following my instructions.
