The result of the discussion was closing as keep for now whilst further discussion takes place at the project level. I've suggested to WikiProject Macintosh that they rename themselves to WikiProject Apple Inc. so that this can then be made a taskforce thereof. –xeno talk 14:50, 13 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I object to this Wikiproject's existance as its scope is too narrow. Should be a task force of the Macintosh wikiproject. ViperSnake151  Talk  19:35, 8 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment: Don't discussions like this usually happen at the parent-project level? MFD seems unnecessary. –xeno talk 19:37, 8 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep - Project was only created on the 4th, so it might be premature to expect a lot of members, and the reason given for deletion is not an acceptable one. This is not to say that I wouldn't favor such a merge, but this is not the way to do it. John Carter (talk) 20:28, 8 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment I'm in favor of having an iPhone task force (no need to focus on the OS, is there?) and that, bureaucratically, it would work better as a taskforce. I'd like to see a little more article improvement (I watch iPhone and haven't heard of them until they put out talk templates) before we make anohter mostly inactive project. (I'm personally happy to work with you informally first.)--HereToHelp (talk to me) 22:05, 8 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep it is too early to say that it should be deleted, Projects can be as narrow in scope as the participants want them to be. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 03:45, 9 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete big-time Projects are supposed to serve a more generalized purpose. iPhone OS is just too specific of a topic to consider as a project. A better project would be something like "operating systems," "smartphone operating systems," or even an "iPhone" project. Groink (talk) 08:15, 9 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Strong Keep with reserves as founder I know that it it may appear to be a specific topic but the scope is huge when you include all the applications in the app store, software, companies and developers. I am happy to make this into a task force under WikiProject video games or WikiProject Macintosh but as it is really no way connected to the macintosh project id oppose this. We could even make a wikiproject apple in or WikiProject iPod. Lets be fair its just been set up and still templating relevant articles. But yeah theres some projects with a smaller scope and with a never ending list of applications coming through the apple app store this project will always be active and busy. Thanks ISmashed TALK! 09:02, 9 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment I wouldn't object to being a part of task force on the Macintosh WikiProject (or more appropriately an Apple WikiProject). However, I'd like to state that I believe the iPhone OS is a broader subject than what the iPhone topic would be mainly because an iPhone topic would leave out the iPod Touch from the scope, and the case for the OS to be used on other devices is likely in the future. The OS encompasses all of the components, the software that runs on it, as well as its primary hardware. Calling it an iPhone project would be short-sighted. Brianreading (talk) 09:32, 9 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment Your completely right abot that. The OS enlarges the scope. An apple wiki project would be ideal. If that was set up iphone os and macintosh projects would both be made task forces and more projects I guess would emerge.ISmashed TALK! 09:46, 9 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
    • Wikipedia:WikiProject Apple was established for all of a few days before becoming a redirect to the Mac project. I'd be willing to try to revive it, with Mac, iPod, and iPhone OS task forces. The names aren't particularly great--the iPod touch would fall under iPhone OS, and where do you put things like the Newton and QuickTake? It could work, though.--HereToHelp (talk to me) 22:01, 11 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
      • Well, not everything needs to be under a task force right? Topics like the Newton and QuickTake could just fall under the general Apple WikiProject. I think it makes more sense to be organized in this fashion than under the Macintosh WikiProject. Brianreading (talk) 04:24, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep The project is clearly about the OS used on the iPhone, and hence is in many ways broader than an iPhone project would be. As the OS for the iPhone is a specific topic, it might well be confusing to try merging it into a general Apple OS project to be sure. The OS for the iPhone is substantially different from the other Apple OSs. Collect (talk) 12:16, 9 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep The iPhone OS is definitely not a narrow scope, with all of the various parts of the OS and the apps, and a large number of other things. Plus, the WikiProject is too new to say that it is time to delete it. Hi878 (talk) 21:28, 9 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment I propose a wikiproject apple with a mac, iPhone OS and iPod taskforces. ISmashed TALK! 15:10, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
