Two ethnic group portals

Portal:Apache (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
Portal:Berbers (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

Two portals on ethnic groups that, like Portal:French Americans, are not large enough to meet the WP:POG guideline's breadth-of-subject-area requirement. Portal:Apache is a single-page portal created in one click by The Transhumanist; I have a strong suspicion that TTH intended to create Portal:Apache HTTP Server instead, but the abbreviated name, combined with the code of the subst:'ed template, gave us this one instead, which TTH unhelpfully left to us. The single page Portal:Berbers does have a unique design which might have lessons for portals on broader subjects, but the creator of the portal long-ago left the project. Neither subject appears to have any active portal editors to keep them updated. Wikipedia:WikiProject Berbers has been courtesy talkpage notified. • Delete both per nominator.
These two portals fail the WP:POG requirement that portals should be about "broad subject areas, which are likely to attract large numbers of interested readers and portal maintainers". The nominator notes the lack of maintainers, and the page views are tiny. In January–June 2019, the average daily pageviews were 14 for Portal:Berbers, and only 4 for Portal:Apache. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 15:54, 2 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete both per the nom and BrownHairedGirl. Both portals are abandoned junk being left to the sands of time since they lack almost any readers and have no maintainers.WP:POG requires portals be about subjects broad enough to attract large numbers of readers and maintainers, which neither portal is meeting or has ever met. Wikipedia is better off without rotting junk like this lying around luring readers into unmaintained portals and giving them false impressions about what quality standards Wikipedia has. • Delete Portal:Apache. It doesn't matter whether TTH created the wrong portal by mistake. They wouldn't have cared, because they were only trying to create portals recklessly. As User:BrownHairedGirl notes, this portal has only 4 daily pageviews, which means that it is being ignored, as opposed to 1248 daily pageviews for the article. The portal has a single-page design with 55 internal articles. The single-page design does not compensate for the abysmal pageviews. Robert McClenon (talk) 21:59, 5 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete Portal:Berbers. The portal has 14 daily pageviews, as opposed to 2134 daily pageviews for the article. The single-page design with approximately 40 articles selected internally is superior to the usual version with subpages, but that reduces maintenance rather than making it maintenance-free, and there has been no sign of maintenance. • Delete Portal:Apache and keep Portal:Berbers (as nom says, "unique design", and has a useful list of redlinks related to the subject). — Bilorv (talk) 08:16, 6 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete there both junk.Catfurball (talk) 21:34, 6 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
