Portal:Romanian football (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

Abandoned portal with a big farm of massively-outdated content forks, mostly on BLPs.

It was created[1] in January 2009‎ by Bine Mai (talk · contribs), who also created most of the sub-pages. The lead of WP:POG has said since late 2006 "Do not create a portal if you do not intend to assist in its regular maintenance", but that has not happened here. Bine Mai's last eedit to wp was in February 2018, but their last edit to this portal was in December 2010.[2] Since Bine Mai moved on, the portal has been abandoned aprt from formatting tweaks.

The list of sub-pages at Special:PrefixIndex/Portal:Romanian football is quite big, but problematic.

Portal:Romanian football/Liga I round was an attempt to track each stage of the league, but that was abandoned within months of the portal's creation. Those pages are not used in the portal.

The selected articles are mostly about clubs, and the excerpts are more ten years out of date. Even worse, the overwhelming majority of the 50 pages on players are about BLPs, and they to are all ten years out of date. e.g.:

The result is that there is nothing here worth keeping. If anyone want to revive this portal, they would have to replace the whole lot.

I usually propose that abandoned portals be deleted per WP:TNT, without prejudice to re-creation. But given this portal's long history of abandonment, and the fact that it seems only to have ever been the playthng of one editor, I think it's better to just delete this portal and all their sub-pages. • Delete - I concur with the recommendation by BHG that this portal be deleted because it contains obsolete information due to its lack of a maintainer. However, the pageview metrics are "interesting". One could argue truthfully but misleadingly that the portal has 43% as many views as the head article Football in Romania. That is true, but the portal has only 6 daily pageviews. The head article has 14 daily pageviews, when most head articles have 500 and 10,000. An editor who is interesting in the topic would be better off to work on improving the viewing of the head article than on developing a new portal. • Delete - Abandoned portal, 143 subpages, created 2009-01-12 18:50:25 by User:Bine Mai. Nothing to keep: expired snippets. Main cause: a too narrow topic. Portal:Romanian football. Pldx1 (talk) 14:04, 7 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
