Portal:Mustelids (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

Delete Stop the presses, this is the best one ever: from this one-page wonder's DYK: "... that Kathleen Hite, scriptwriter for Gunsmoke, accepted a job as a secretary at CBS so she could badger company officials into letting her write?" Please, please put this down in the Wikipedia archives as a permanent memorial to the tragic folly of late-2018/early-2019 automated portalspam. I'm glad this once I can laugh through my tears. Never mind that a single mammalian family, like EVERY taxonomic family, fails the WP:POG guideline's breadth-of-subject-area requirement; this one can be more than adequately covered in Portal:Mammals. • Delete per nominator. Narrow topic, and this automated junk portal draws its list of "selected articles" indiscriminately from the head article Mustelidae ... so the version offered to me includes in its selection the article kelp. That's a seaweed, not not an mustelid.
There should be some way of speedy deleting this spam, so that readers don't continue to get lured to a junk page which depicts a seaweed and a scriptwriter as cousins of a weasel. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 00:58, 11 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Did You Know that...

  • Comment - Automated portal, 0 subpages, created 2019-01-22 08:51:01 by User:TTH, useless navigation tool, redundant to the existing articles and navboxes, and of lower quality. Using 76 months instead of 36 in the DYK selection would prove how expandable is this topic. Portal:Mustelids. Pldx1 (talk) 08:46, 11 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete very poor quality automated portal. The selected articles section gave me Sexual selection, Kamchatka Peninsula, Fur, Uterus and Oil spill, none of which has any relevance whatsoever. The DYK section isn't the silliest I've seen but comes close. Even if the topic was viable for a portal we'd have to throw it away and start again. Hut 8.5 13:28, 11 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete per Hut 8.5. My visits also gave me seemingly unrelated entries. This is what happens when you create things automatically without thinking about things like categorisation structure. SITH (talk) 12:35, 12 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
