My partner is taking an examination in Long Beach on October 1 and 2. Saturday is usually a good day for people for meetups, but if more people want to do Friday evening, that's a possibility too. I'm keeping an open mind. The San Francisco meetup on Saturday will be in a park in San Francisco, although restaurants, bars and office spaces have made excellent meetup venues as well. Location possibilities

Within Long Beach

• Aquarium of the Pacific (entrance fee)
• Long Beach Museum of Art (entrance fee)
• Recreation Park
• A beach, such as Belmont Shore, or Marine Park (Mother's Beach), weather permitting
• Belmont Pier

Near Long Beach

• Angel's Gate Park, San Pedro, home of the Korean Bell of Friendship, which you may remember from the film The Usual Suspects
• Other beaches, such as in Huntington Beach, or Newport Beach
• Ken Malloy Regional Park, Harbor City/Wilmington, former location of Reggie the alligator

Downtown LA/Hollywood

• Philippe's: originator of the French Dip sandwich. It has a room upstairs and is close to the Red Line metro.

San Fernando Valley

• Lulu's Beehive is a very nice indie coffeeshop. --Neskaya
