Where is the issue taking place?

The Homerun page. Discussion at Talk:Homerun (film).

Who's involved?

Hildanknight (myself) and several other editors.

What's going on?

Summary: There's a dispute about the Homerun article and whether it should redirect to Home run or Homerun (film), and about the disambiguation links at the top of the Home run and Homerun (film) articles.

Full statement from Hildanknight

Homerun was once a redirect to Home run, until I wrote an article on Homerun, a 2003 Singaporean film which won a Golden Horse Award. The article was previously located at Homerun, and a month after the article was created, someone added 1-click disambiguation to Home run at the top of the then-Homerun article.

However, in July, when I was considering leaving Wikipedia and blanking the articles I wrote, without any warning, Themindset moved the article to Homerun (film) and Homerun was redirected to Home run. Home run currently has 2-click disambiguation to Homerun (film).

What would you like to change about that?

The actions of Themindset relegate the article I wrote to the background and make it excessively difficult to find.

Homerun is a Golden Horse Award-winning film, and I am trying to improve it to Good Article status.

The issue here lies in the spacing of the words "Homerun" and "Home run". I have never seen "Homerun" (without the space) being used to refer to the baseball term. Similarly, no one refers to this movie as "Home Run" (with the space).

The disambiguation links at the top of the Home run and Homerun (film) articles are another concern. Homerun (film) offers 1-click disambiguation to Home run but Home run offers 2-click disambiguation to Homerun (film). This makes the article I wrote excessively difficult to find.

As a side note, the Multiply article is about the social networking site, and offers 1-click disambiguation to Multiplication, the mathematical concept. However, the Multiplication article does not offer any disambiguation to Multiply. By this argument, the Homerun article should be about the movie.

An ideal situation for me would be:

  1. The Homerun article is about the movie.
  2. Homerun redirects to Homerun (film)

However, I do not demand an ideal situation. Below I offer three options for compromise, listed in other of preference (not my own preference, but what I think would be in the best interests of everyone):

  1. Homerun redirects to Home run (disambiguation). This offers 1-click disambiguation for both articles.
  2. Home run offers 1-click disambiguation to Homerun (film) instead of the current 2-click disambiguation. Could be used together with compromise 1.
  3. Homerun (film) offers 2-click disambiguation to Home run, instead of the current 1-click disambiguation. Best used together with compromise 1. Not recommended, however, as this is a lose-lose situation.

I attempted to settle this issue by seeking consensus through a poll at Talk:Homerun (film), but no consensus was achieved.

Another side note: Talk:Homerun redirects to [[Talk:Homerun (film) although Homerun redirects to Home run.

No, not any more. I "fixed" that last week. It redirects to Talk:Home run now. --Richard 18:20, 16 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Would you prefer we work discreetly? If so, how can we reach you?

Any mediation should be conducted at Talk:Homerun (film). If you need to contact me, drop a note on my talk page.

Mediator response

Richard, a neutral third party is working on this one. Closing since it's more mechanical and not really subject to a mediation - that and the issue has somewhat died off. If the situation continues, please consider WP:3O or an article Request for Comment instead. CQJ 17:33, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
