Where is the issue taking place?
On the "Alex Jones" talk page.
That would be Alex Jones (radio), I think. Nloth 00:59, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Indeed. BarrettBrown 05:50, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Who's involved?
Myself and Moshe Constantine Hassan Al-Silverburg.
What's going on?
There is a dispute concerning whether or not Alex Jones should be referred to as a "documentary filmmaker." I have pointed out that Alex Jones makes and sells documentary films for a living, and when I was also asked for sources with reputable publications referring to him as a documentary filmmaker, I provided two - the most popular radio show in the United States, and an award-winning Texas weekly newspaper with an audited readership of 250,000. My opponent has attacked both sources, despite the fact that he knows nothing about them. A full account of our dispute may be viewed on the Alex Jones talk page, towards the bottom.
What would you like to change about that?
I would like Alex Jones to be referred to in the first paragraph of the article as "documentary filmmaker" instead of "video producer," because "video producer" describes another occupation altogether, and is also an unwieldy term which, frankly, I've never seen used before.
Actually, I've found an instance in which Alex Jones is indeed described as a video producer. But "video producer Alex Jones" only comes up with 13 hits on yahoo, whereas "documentary filmmaker Alex Jones" comes up with 30,000 hits. BarrettBrown 23:25, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If you'd prefer we work discreetly, how can we reach you?
Discretion isn't necessary.
Would you be willing to be a mediator yourself, and accept a mediation assignment in a different case?
This is, following the Categorical Imperative, the idea that you might want to do
what you expect others to do. You don't have to, of course, that's why it's a question.
Certainly.

Mediator response

Having read the talk page I have left my first comments there, which offer a solution to the disagreement via an alternative suggestion for the wording of the disputed section. Awaiting response from the parties. Kcordina Talk 12:51, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Agreement has been reached on the compromise title of film maker - see article talk page. Kcordina Talk 07:49, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Evidence

Please report evidence in this section with {{Wikipedia:Mediation_Cabal/Evidence}} for misconduct and {{Wikipedia:Mediation_Cabal/Evidence3RR}} for 3RR violations. If you need help ask a mediator or an advocate. Evidence is of limited use in mediation as the mediator has no authority. Providing some evidence may, however, be useful in making both sides act more civil.
Wikipedia:Etiquette: Although it's understandably difficult in a heated argument, if the other party is not as civil as you'd like them to be, make sure to be more civil than him or her, not less.

Discussion

The compromise seems fine to me. Thanks again for your help. BarrettBrown 14:17, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
