The result of the discussion was: Keep - it's borderline and decent compliance with NFCC#8 would have more about the parody of Hooters and Hooter girls but there is just enough to warrant retention. Nthep (talk · contribs · blocks · protections · deletions · page moves · rights · RfA)

Invalid FUR: Non-free content is used only if its presence would significantly increase readers' understanding of the topic, and its omission would be detrimental to that understanding. This image is not critical for understanding, but is used in a decorative fashion. Since this file does not greatly enhance understanding, nor will its omission greatly decrease understanding, it must be deleted. Cf. with several similar nominations here, here, and here (for instance). The burden of proof is on the uploader and keep !voters to show how this particular piece of media is meaningful for understanding the episode and how critical and sourced commentary is given in the article to provide context. —Justin (koavf)TCM 06:21, 31 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: Keep. Another borderline case and I sympathise with those who find it hard to write a description but somebody should give it a go to provide a greater contextual significance to this image. • Keep The Crystalline Entity is pretty hard to describe in text. It comes off sounding like a solid crystal to someone who isn't already familiar with the episode in question, which isn't accurate. Therefore I would say to keep on that basis. Miyagawa (talk) 22:49, 31 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per Miyagawa; omitting a visual depiction of the Crystalline Entity, a unique entity in the Star Trek franchise (if not all of TV sci-fi), would be a detriment to a reader's understanding of an article about an episode focused on that entity. postdlf (talk) 03:24, 1 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep I could not describe the Crystalline Entity in textual prose. We need an image of this unique entity for this episode. --Artene50 (talk) 22:04, 3 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, the content of the screenshot is not mentioned in sourced statements in the article body. If the image is important, then this has to be shown in the text. (If that's added, then the image should be kept.) – Quadell (talk) 17:29, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep - Screencaps of television episodes are ipso facto relevant to articles about the episodes. One gains a better understanding of the episode simply by looking at the image. To state anything else is a form of extreme reductionism attacking fair use itself. Magog the Ogre (tc) 16:29, 18 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep I added a clearer context for the screencap although I admit there are visually better images of this entity. --Leoboudv (talk) 06:03, 21 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Borderline Keep I'm only saying this because it is the only episode where any of the TNG cast wear the movie era costumes. Plus, the costuming was deliberate to ensure that the blood splatter was visible on the red costume by pulling open the front flap. It wouldn't be impossible to describe in text but it would take half a paragraph to do it justice, especially with Picard's reaction to being stabbed. It would increase understanding of the scene more simply than text alone. Miyagawa (talk) 22:58, 31 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep per Miyagawa; the dramatic impact of the action of this scene, Picard's wound, and the expression on his face could not be adequately conveyed by text. postdlf (talk) 03:49, 1 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, nothing in this screenshot is described by sourced commentary in the article. – Quadell (talk) 15:07, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep - Screencaps of television episodes are ipso facto relevant to articles about the episodes. One gains a better understanding of the episode simply by looking at the image. To state anything else is a form of extreme reductionism attacking fair use itself. What's more, this is most important screenshot from the episode, and one of the most iconic of the entire ST:TNG franchise. Magog the Ogre (tc) 16:31, 18 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete, there is no exception for episode screencaps in the FUR. The image is undeniably not critical for understanding the article.--eh bien mon prince (talk) 22:02, 1 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the discussion was: Delete Like a lot of ST images there is a lack of sourced contextual information. Without something to explain why this is a significant image, it fails NFCC#8. Deleted by Nthep (talk · contribs · blocks · protections · deletions · page moves · rights · RfA)

  • There might be a better screenshot from this episode, but given that this is used in an episode in which the Enterprise confronts a Borg ship, showing that ship is pretty significant to a reader's understanding of the article. So keep pending a better screenshot being identified. postdlf (talk) 21:01, 31 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Delete. I can't find any sourced statements in the article that describe anything in this screenshot. – Quadell (talk) 14:52, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep - Screencaps of television episodes are ipso facto relevant to articles about the episodes. One gains a better understanding of the episode simply by looking at the image. To state anything else is a form of extreme reductionism attacking fair use itself. What's more, this is probably the most important screenshot from the episode. Magog the Ogre (tc) 16:32, 18 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Keep, for reasons analogous to the consensus to keep File:ST-TNG The Big Goodbye.jpg in the discussion below. The image succinctly conveys the main thrust of the plot of the episodes-- a confrontation between the Enterprise and a Borg cube. I suppose you could argue that a screenshot of Locutus or something might be a bit more iconic, but it'd also be more inscrutable to somebody who's not already familiar with the episode. --Lost tiree, lost dutch :O (talk) 01:33, 21 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
