- Non-free book cover of a modern edition of a medieval text, used for purely decorative purpose in the article about the medieval text (Kimiya-yi sa'ādat). Modern edition is not being discussed in the article, not the object of analysis, and doesn't seem notable. Fails NFCC#8, no significant contribution to understanding the article. The statement in the image caption, that the book "was written in Persian", is neither in need of illustration, nor is it in fact appropriately illustrated by this image. - Non-free book cover of a modern edition of a medieval book. Similar situation as the above: modern edition is not being discussed; fails NFCC#8, no significant contribution to understanding. Note that the painting depicted on the bookcover might or might not be itself PD. Fut.Perf. ☼ 20:22, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Question The image used for the cover is plainly PD-old; this is a style used centuries ago. Does writing a few words (by themselves not copyrightable) over a PD-old image produce a copyrightable work? If not, there's no reason to delete. Nyttend (talk) 16:04, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- That's a thought worth considering; however, I wouldn't feel comfortable making this assumption of PD-old status just on my own guess. I don't know enough about this artistic tradition to determine if modern provenance can be safely excluded. Fut.Perf. ☼ 17:16, 4 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

- Non-free document that apparently wasn't published anywhere outside Wikipedia before it was uploaded here. Fails NFCC#4, "Non-free content must have been published or publicly displayed outside Wikipedia". Also a violation of WP:NOR, because it is an original publication of a primary source not previously published and discussed in reliable secondary sources, uploaded here to advance a position in an area of notorious national POV dispute. - Non-free magazine cover, from Science (journal), featuring an image of an ancient Iranian artwork. Used for purely decorative purposes in an article on Science and technology in Iran – apparently merely because it features the juxtapposition of Iranian culture and the word "Science" in the title. Neither the image nor the issue of the journal are otherwise discussed in the article; the statement in the caption that "science has been prevalent throughout both ancient and modern Persian history" is neither in need of illustration nor indeed properly illustrated by this item (in addition to being POV peacock language). Fails NFCC#8, no significant contribution to understanding. Fut.Perf. ☼ 20:35, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

- Non-free screenshot of an incident shown on television, used as a primary source to illustrate a POV position in the article Shi'a–Sunni relations. Constitutes WP:OR since the article cites no reliable third-party sources documenting the notability of that incident; as such also fails WP:NFCC#8 since it doesn't make a significant contribution to understanding a legitimate encyclopedic issue. Even if the incident were shown to be notable and covered by reliable sources, the screenshot would hardly be necessary for understanding it. Fut.Perf. ☼ 20:40, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

- Doesn't increase readers' understanding of the topic and therefore fails the non-free content criteria. The file description page says "The image is significant in identifying the subject of the article, which is the song." This is not true, as only a sound sample from the song would be helpful for identification. Theleftorium 20:56, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
