  • I would like to be renamed "newname" so that Angela can test whether this rename thing really works. Thank you. Oldname 9 July 2005 15:13 (UTC)
    • This worked. I had to recreate the old account in order to block it. It might be best to just leave this to the user to do if they want to. It seems to be logged at Special:Log but only mixed in with the other logs, since it doesn't have its own log yet (see bugzilla:2772). Angela. July 9, 2005 15:42 (UTC)

  • Please change all edits so they are attributed to User:Jguk, jguk 9 July 2005 07:54 (UTC) And using the "new" account as proof it's me, jguk 9 July 2005 07:57 (UTC)
    • Sorry, but unlike before, you can only now be renamed to an account that does not exist. Angela. July 9, 2005 14:57 (UTC)
  • Does User:Josh really exist? Seems to have an account, with no activity at all ever. If it's available, I'd kinda like it. --jpgordon∇∆∇∆ 9 July 2005 18:09 (UTC)
    • Yes, it does exist but has no edits on the English Wikipedia. We don't yet have any policy on whether unused accounts can be reassigned. Angela. 07:30, July 11, 2005 (UTC)
      • There is precedent for letting someone take over an inactive username that has no (few?) edits. Kate did it. →Raul654 00:37, July 14, 2005 (UTC)
        • Yes, but with single login about to be introduced, that might not be a good precedent to follow. If you've created Raul654 on fr to prevent someone else getting it so you can have single login when it arrives, you're not going to be too pleased if Raul654 is given out to someone else now just because you have few edits over there. Angela. 14:13, July 14, 2005 (UTC)
  • In the german and the french Wikipedia, I am the user named Marom. Some time ago, I created my account User:Marom here. Now I tried to login, but my common password didn't work, and I didn't get an email with a new password. Wow can I recover my account (when I can not proove that it is mine)? --84.152.8.157 21:25, 10 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • Please change all 3 edits so they are attributed to User:Mike@jones-reddy.org Confirmed from old account User:mreddy@glam.ac.uk
    • Sorry, but as stated above, you can only now be renamed to an account that does not exist. Mike@jones-reddy.org already exists. Angela. 13:29, July 11, 2005 (UTC)
  • Please change my username from Pberkel to PieterB. I don't have a userpage either. Ta.
    • This was your first edit. What would be the point? Angela. 14:13, July 14, 2005 (UTC)
  • Please change my username from Darra to Tyhjiö. Thank you. --Darra 13:44, 13 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
    • Done. Two things to remember - (A) move the old userpage to the new user page, and (B) Even if it is successful in changing the account name, the Special:Renameuser times out every time. →Raul654 21:19, July 13, 2005 (UTC)
      • Do you think Darra (and other renamed users) should be blocked? This used to be done by developers, though not consistently. Currently, any user can come along and recreate the Darra account. Angela. 14:13, July 14, 2005 (UTC)
  • Please change my username from Nick_L_N_Chang to NickC. Thanks. (I have a home page and a talk page, do I just copy and paste it to my new user page? I would like my old user page and talk page redirected to my new one user page and talk page please, and how do I check that my old account recreated and blocked?. ). - Nick_L_N_Chang 11:01, July 14, 2005 (BST)
  • Please change my username to Durin. Thus, please record as "<name removed> changed to Durin". Please recreate old username and block. Are the user pages and discussion pages normally wiped as well? If not, I'd like to have them wiped. I presume the password remains the same? --Durin 14:22, 15 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • Done, including the wipe of your old user and discussion page. The password for your new account will remain the same and your old username has had its password set to a random value. Please note that any links to your user page and talk page will remain; I ask that you change these manually so that there are no dead links. The Uninvited Co., Inc. 01:55, 20 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Please rename user creationist to kdbuffalo

  • I'd like to be renamed to Home Row Keysplurge if this is possible. - Cymydog Naakka 21:56:07, 2005-07-28 (UTC)
  • User:Antares911 requested via email to me to be renamed to User:Gryffindor. He expressed some concern that another user might take the name before he could be renamed if he requested it publically. I asked Antares911 to confirm his identity by posting to my User_talk page, which he did, and I have renamed him. Pakaran 20:35, 31 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'd like to be renamed from Vt-aoe to Leviathan, but I see there's already an account by that name, albeit an inactive one with no edit history, User Page, or Talk Page. In light of Angela's extremely valid points exchanged with Raul654 regarding Jpgordon's recent similar request (Archive3), I took a look at some other Wikiprojects and noted that Leviathan isn't currently in use on Wictionary, Wikibooks, Wikiquote, Wikisource, Wikispecies, Wikinews, Wikicommons, Meta-Wiki, or on many of the most popular translations of Wikipedia (French, Italian, Japanese, Dutch, Portuguese, or Swedish). There is a similarly inactive account by that name on the Spanish Wikipedia, and active accounts on the German and Polish versions. I have left messages on the talk pages of the German and Polish Wikipedia users, asking if they are also using the username Leviathan on the English Wikipedia. Absent objection from these users or another affected party, I'd like to request consideration be given to deleting the inactive user Leviathan on the English Wikipedia and renaming my account to that name. All that having been said, if that's absolutely out of the question, or if there is objection, I would be satisfied with the username - Leviathan -, although slightly less so. Thanks for your time, and I am perfectly happy to wait however long you deem necessary to allow the other users a chance to reply on their talk pages. Chris 23:05, 24 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
    • There's not a whole lot we lowly bureacrats can do -- you have to track down a developer and convince him/her to do the switch. →Raul654 00:31, July 25, 2005 (UTC)
  • I recently registered .Usman at the English Wikepedia. Presently i have no edits, user page or talk page.

I would appreciate it if i can be assigned the user name Usman. The name Usman is registered at the english wikipedia though it does not have any Edit history, User Page, or Talk Page. I looked around at some other projects but the user name Usman does not exist on (Wikibooks, Wikiqoute, Wikisource, Wikispecies, Wikinews, Commons). It is not being used at any other major language WikipediasFrench, Italian, Japanese, Dutch, German, Swedish, Polish, Portuguese

Usman is registered at the english wiktionary but with no Contributions, User Page, Talk Page and at Spanish Wikipedia with no Page edits,User Page or Talk Page

Since it is simply a matter of allowing me the use of a name which was registered by someone else but was not once used to make a single edit, i am sure there will not be any problems about user attributions. Note: this has previously been done as well.(Though this is simpler. There are no user attributions to be changed)

Thanks in advace. i'll keep my edits as anonymous until this is cleared.

Usman

Due to technical limitations of the software, there is no easy means by which we can delete an inactive account. Sorry. The Uninvited Co., Inc. 21:35, 28 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Too bad, I could not find this in the list anymore, so I thought it was no longer in use. I changed my signature via preference. Thanks for trying! --Patio 08:57, 29 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]
This is me to prove I am also User:Gregw824. If the two can't be merged, no problem, thanks. Gregw824 12:31, 1 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
We can only move your account to a name that has never been used. I presume you still want your edits moved from

卫weizhe哲 to WeiZhe - I will attempt this but it may fail because of the chinese characters. Secretlondon 21:05, 8 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

In fact I won't because you have 13 edits on 卫weizhe哲 and many more on Gregw824. The greg account also predates the 卫weizhe哲 one by about 9 months. Secretlondon 21:18, 8 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • I renamed Rajanr to Rajanr_imposter following a discussion at the Help desk and emails from someone claiming to be the real Rajanr to the Board's address. Angela. 00:44, August 11, 2005 (UTC)
  • Greetings! I make periodic contributions and editions to Wikipedia. A little while ago, I requested a redirect from the user/name I created originally (and now inactive), Wikipedia Username, to my current alias, E Pluribus Anthony. Thanks! Is it possible, though, to change all instances where my former user name appears to my current one too? If not, can all prior instances be deleted? One nagging problem I have is the many instances of the former which I can find on the Web when doing a search for my name, which I want to mitigate. Your assistance is profoundly appreciated. Merci! E Pluribus Anthony 08:24, 13 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
    • No and no. We cannot rename an account except to a nonexistance name. Nor can we delete those edits. The only thing we can offer is to re-attribute them to a name of your choosing which has not yet been registered. →Raul654 08:44, August 13, 2005 (UTC)
      • Hi there; thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Great! OK, can you re-attribute my older edits (under the username 'Wikipedia Username') to the following username, which I'm certain is not registered:
      • E Pluribus Anthony redux
      • Let me know if anything else is needed. Merci!
Oh, I see... :( May I become TintoRetto, if the required login is not vacant? --Xenia 13:25, 18 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • Please rename me from Charles O'Rourke to User:Cleared as filed for privacy concerns. Thanks! —Charles O'Rourke 20:05, August 22, 2005 (UTC)
  • Please rename me from (redacted) to (redacted) for privacy concerns. Thank you, (redacted) 22:29, 21 August 2005 (UTC)
    • The user (redacted) has been renamed to (redacted) Uncle Ed 00:48, August 30, 2005 (UTC)
  • Could you rename me, User:Charlievansant to User:CharlieCYT. I do not want to use my real name. Thank you very much!
    • The user "Charlievansant" has been renamed to "CharlieCYT" Uncle Ed 00:53, August 30, 2005 (UTC)
- Really you have no character to assume the responsability of your words and actions:
The change of user name was because of the full stop, and was done at the request of an Admin.--WholemealBaphomet 00:43, 5 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I have found it in the logs - it was done by User:Ed Poor. I'm not aware of any rule that says you can't have a dot in your user name, for what it's worth. Secretlondon 05:07, 5 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
User:Baphomet. is damaging Wikipedia: he his trying to label Religious articles as Superstition (from a POV view of positivism, that he calls Science). At the article Reincarnation he just went on to add to category "Superstition" and later on without discussion put a POV msg in the article. Please see the discussion page between both of us Talk:Reincarnation#Superstition.
Through the use of a Culture created by extremism in Science, he is clearly trying to do the job that the Inquisition did in the Middle Ages in a Culture created by extremism in Religion. He is damaging Wikipedia in a subtle invious way!
Please see also the Alert message I have created at Wikipedia:Wikiquette_alerts#September_4, Thank you! --GalaazV 23:09, 4 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • I'd like to have my account, User:WikidCool renamed to User:WikidSmaht. I was trying it out (in signature) for a while, but now I'm pretty sure. I want to ask, though, would it be possible for me to keep control of the new account at the old name? Or even, don't make one and let me recreate it? I don't intend to use it as an active sockpuppet or anything (I would keep it clearly labelled as my old account), but I'd hate to see it just be there, blocked for all eternity. -- WikidCool 22:44, September 7, 2005 (UTC)
    • Done. As for your old account, if you don't intend to use it, why shouldn't it be blocked? — Dan | Talk 00:16, 8 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
      • I said I don't intend to use it as an active sockpuppet, i.e., it wouldn't be my main account, and I wouldn't use it to pretend I'm more than one editor. Frankly, I just don't like the idea of my original name being defunct in that way, I find it inconvenient and unsettling. I suppose I could have just created WikidSmaht as a second account, but since I wanted it to be my main name, I had a desire to keep even my limited edit history associated with it. Whatever. I have no intention of starting an argument about the issue. I feel the way I feel and if this is the price I have to pay for the name change, I guess I'll deal. Thanks for responding to the request in a timely manner. And for moving my User and Talk pages; that isn't automated is it? -- WikidSmaht 02:45, September 8, 2005 (UTC)

Prtext is have the same user name at many language Wikipedia. I am poor at English. I'm sorry.--Daiju Hirayama 12:47:44, 2005-09-10 (UTC)

      • Check on change. Thank you very much.

  • Please change Acid to "Hurricane Devon." I checked, it's not used. I like this name better. Acid remindes me of the rude person I was.

  • Please change my username Gobbles to (my real initials) "TDM". I used to use this username on other sites, but since it is used by Gobbles security, I want to reduce any confusion about it. I have several edits I would like to keep associated with myself. Sorry for the trouble.

Sorry, but you'll have to specify a non-existent account name. Please go through the instructions above. =Nichalp «Talk»= 10:52, 13 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
It doesn't exist, i am the one who moved my user page to User:Passive, i thought that this would rename my account :s .. --Amr Hassan 10:54, 13 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I moved it back, but i can't remove the article Passive so it redirects to AmrHassan.. can you rename my username now? --Amr Hassan 11:18, 13 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Done: I've renamed AmrHassan to Passive. Sorry for the misunderstanding, the link was blue. If you want to prevent impersonation from your old account, you would need to recreate the old one and get an admin to block it. =Nichalp «Talk»= 11:33, 13 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
OKIE, this is the User AmrHassan, its page redirects to my new page User:Passive, so plz block this account..--AmrHassan 19:44, 13 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Account blocked permanently. =Nichalp «Talk»= 05:49, 14 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Please rename user:EnduranceFan back to user:Trollderella, per poll regarding the renaming that I did a couple of weeks ago. I failed to block the old account, and some users (possibly as a joke) logged into and used the old account. This will require developer intervention: I left a note for user:Tim Starling. Uncle Ed 11:50, September 9, 2005 (UTC)
    • Never mind. Tim came on #wikipedia and told me how to do it. Uncle Ed 22:42, September 9, 2005 (UTC)

Please move User:Jugoslaven to User:Luka Jačov. Thank you! Jugoslaven 09:14, 20 September 2005 (UTC)Ok, second option is ok Jugoslaven 09:34, 20 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

User:Luka Jacov exists. Please login as User:Luka Jacov and make the request. =Nichalp «Talk»= 06:19, 21 September 2005 (UTC)Is it possible to move two accounts in one? The thing I made request for changing name in autmn of 2004 and nothing happend and then there were other rules. I have only two edits on Luka Jacov account and both are requesting for changing user name. 12:24, 21 September 2005 (UTC) Please move User:Luka Jacov to Luka Jačov Luka Jacov 12:32, 21 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Ok this is what I've done:
  • Jugoslaven renamed as Luka Jačov
  • User:Luka Jacov blocked permanently
  • User:Luka Jacov's main page redirected to User:Luka Jačov
  • Jugoslaven does not exist anymore. You may also read #7 & #8 of the instructions above. =Nichalp «Talk»= 13:39, 21 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
