Another case of "don't write the highway article until you see the signs posted on the side of the road", this stretch of road was built, but it wasn't called I-685; it's just an extension of I-85, and I find it hard to imagine that it will ever be redesignated. Possibly redirection to a section on building this segment is in order, but as it stands, it's another example showing why we have WP:NOTCRYSTAL. Mangoe (talk) 06:09, 9 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
comment A lot of people seem to be confused here. The I-685 article describes the future construction of a segment east of Montgomery which has already been built, and which was signed I-85. There seems to be a second proposal to extend further west of Montgomery, which may or may not be designated I-685, which is already mentioned in the I-85 article. Redirect to Interstate 85 in Alabama per now (with merge if there is anything to add that is not already there). The history of this article will presumably be useful (and needed, per WP:ATTRIB) if/when the designation changes after the rerouted I-85 alignment is constructed and this article is spun off. --Kinut/c17:01, 13 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
