The result was keep as clearly, plainly, reasonably notable, in a well-sourced article. Ghits will not work with a person dead so long. Borderline bad-faith nomination. Bearian (talk) 23:41, 8 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Non notable person. He aided Prudence Crandall but that was it. The books only mention him in passing reference. They are not directly about him. The article fails WP:N and WP:RS. Delete Undead Warrior (talk) 15:28, 4 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

- Delete. Non-notable. The only hits I can find on Google link to other encyclopedias. TopGearFreak 16:26, 4 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep The number of Google hits is a poor proxy for notability and would end up promoting Wikipedia's already unhealthy lean towards coverage of modern-day pop-culture trivia over useful encyclopedic subjects. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Moorlock (talk • contribs)
- Keep The books have far more than passing references to him. He is mentioned by name on 30 pages of The Communitarian Moment: The Radical Challenge of the Northampton Association, much of the book concerns him and his activities as one of the most prominent of the 11 founders of the Northhampton Association, a New England industrial/abolitionist group. Benson's association with Crandall (described in Some Recollections of Our Antislavery Conflict By Samuel Joseph May is a minor part of his notability. He was a prominent abolitionist who introduced Sojourner Truth, who worked for him for a time, to abolitionism. The article could easily be greatly expanded. Easily passes WP:BIO based on refs already in article, which should be consulted before nomination. The commonness of his name is a major obstacle to googling.John Z (talk) 17:52, 4 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep. If it were only Prudence Crandall, or only founding the Northampton association, or only employing Sojourner Truth, or only his association with William Lloyd Garrison, I would suggest a merge per WP:BIO1E, but he seems to have played an influential role himself at the nexus of these abolitionists. It's a little difficult to search for him individually, but the number of hits in google books for both him and Sojourner Truth, for instance, is not small, and this book about the Northampton Association has much nontrivial material about him beginning on p.18. —David Eppstein (talk) 17:55, 4 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep His notability within the abolotionist movement's history does not appear to be in question. Ecoleetage (talk) 18:27, 4 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep This article so far is only a stub. That is no reason for not seeking more sources on his life to expand the article. Peterkingiron (talk) 23:02, 4 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep as major historical figure, adequately sourced for a start. DGG (talk) 01:00, 5 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep as per most everyone. While the article needs expansion and inline sourcing, there are several sources and other editors have pointed out more sources that can be used. Edward321 (talk) 23:45, 5 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
