Though it claims a large financial turnover I can find no coverage online in reliable general news sources about Aker American Shipping or its alternative(?) name, American Shipping Company ASA. Generally it is listed on various financial websites and dirtectories. Possibly its shipyard may be a notable landmark, but that shouldn't contribute to the notability of the holding company, should it? Judged by Wikipedia's WP:NCORP notability guidelines, this company doesn't seem to tick the boxes. Sionk (talk) 09:19, 27 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
- Keep Large and notable shipping corporation, listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange (though now apparently operating under the name 'American Shipping Company' rather than Aker American Shipping). Contrary to the nomination, is covered in a wide range of reliable news sources ([1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6]). Reuters also lists several news reports (eg [7]). Its harder to find results for 'American Shipping Company' because of the generic nature of the name, but Highbeam results returns a good number of reports. For example 'Norwegian-controlled Aker American Shipping ASA on Tuesday said it signed a deal with its Philadelphia shipyard unit to build up to 13 tankers worth $1.3 billion.' gives a good idea of the scale and scope of this company and its operations, and showing that it is far from non-notable. - Nomination withdrawn - can't argue with the above sources, sufficiently newsworthy for me, not sure why I didn't spot them myself! Hopefully the article can be updated and improved. Sionk (talk) 22:50, 27 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
