Cornholes is the name of a surf spot south of Sloat St. at Ocean Beach in San Francisco, CA. To the north of Cornholes, the breaks are commonly referred to by the name of the street which intersects the Great Highway at each location, but since no street intersects the Great Highway at this location, it needed to be given a more original name.

Bob Hale is a British philosopher, specifically famous for his collabrative work with Crispin Wright on the neo-Fregean approaches on logicism. The first published neo-Fregean construction of the real numbers was published by him as a British Academy Research Reader. He also has done many works on the epistemology and metaphysics of modality and philosophy of language.

He is currently a professor of philosophy at the University of Sheffield. He had taught in the University of Glasgow, the University of St. Andrews and the University of Lancaster. He was the President of the Aristotelian Society between 2002 and 2003. He was a British Academy Research Reader in the period of 1997-9 and also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 2000.

Michel Lamarche (b. February 9, 1947) is a retired Canadian professional wrestler, known by his ringnames Alexis Smirnoff and Michel "Le Justice" Dubois (Mike "The Judge" Dubois), who competed in North American regional promotions including the National Wrestling Alliance, including the Mid-South, Central States, Georgia and San Francisco territories, as well as brief stints in International Wrestling Association of Japan, the American Wrestling Association and the World Wrestling Federation during the 1970s and 1980s.

Early career

Born in St-Lim, Quebec, Lamarche was involved in amateur wrestling as a teenager before training under Edouard Carpentier for a career in professional wrestling. Making his debut as Michel "Le Justice" Dubois in 1970, he wrestled for Montreal promoter Bob Langevin during the early part of his career and, after spending six months in the Kansas City-area, he returned to Canada becoming a major villain or "heel" in Quebec and the Maritimes region.

Winning the International Tag Team titles with Fidel Castillo in December 1970, the two would be billed as the "European Tag Team Champions" while touring Georgia Championship Wrestling in January 1971 defending the titles against Doug Somers & Bobby Shane, Jack & Jim Dalton and The Assassins; it was during match against The Assassins that Castillo would suffer a major cut by Assassin #1 during a match at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium in Atlanta, Georgia on January 29. Lamarche also participated in a 14-man championship tournament for the vacant NWA Georgia Heavyweight title being eliminated by Assassin #2 in the opening rounds on February 5, 1971. ^[1] He would also appear at an event for the World Wide Wrestling Federation defeating Frank Holtz at the Civic Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on March 24, 1972. ^[2]

Between 1970 and 1974, Lamarche faced many of the top stars in the region including Johnny Rougeau, Eddie Auger, Abdullah the Butcher, The Sheik, Mad Dog Vachon as well as his former trainer Edouard Carpentier eventually winning the Montreal International Championship before leaving for the United States once again. ^[3]

National Wrestling Alliance

After a two year stint in the Mid-Atlantic territory teaming with Freddie Sweetan ^[4], Lamarche began wrestling for the Funk brothers in their Texas based promotion as Mike "The Judge" Dubois in 1974 eventually winning the Texas Heavyweight Championship before moving on the Carolinas where he would team with Jacques Goulet for two years, later loosing to Dino Bravo & Tim Woods in the finals of a championship tournament for the vacant NWA Mid-Atlantic Tag Team Championship on April 10, 1977. ^[5]

While touring with Ivan Koloff, he later began wrestling as Alexis Smirnoff in San Francisco during 1977. While in the area, he advanced to the finals of a 10-man championship tournament to fill the vacant NWA U.S. Heavyweight Championship being eliminated by Pat Patterson on March 12 although he later defeated Patterson for the title a month later on April 16, 1977. ^[6]

Although loosing the title to Dean Ho on July 16, he would later face masked wrestler Texas Red as well as wrestling against Pepper Gomez in a "taped fist" match on November 13, 1977. ^[7] He would also wrestle veterans such as Ray Stevens, Harley Race and The Sheik as well as younger wrestlers including Sgt. Slaughter, Roddy Piper and Jimmy Snuka during his time in San Francisco.

The following year, he would also wrestle in the St. Louis-area teaming with "Bulldog" Bob Brown, Doug Somers, Jack Krueger and Joe Palardy in early 1978. On April 28, he wrestled two matches in one night substituting for Buddy Wolff in a singles match loosing to Pat O'Connor and later teaming with Doug Somers and Bennie Ramirez in a 6-man tag team match to defeat Kevin Sullivan, Terry Gibbs and "Sailor" Art Thomas.

Japan

In 1978, Lamarche signed with the International Wrestling Alliance and would began touring Japan three times a year. During his stay in Japan, he would become extremely successful wrestling IWA World Heavyweight Champion Rusher Kimura in a steel cage match on July 26, 1978. ^[8]

He also teamed with The Atomic wrestling to a double count-out against IWA Tag Team Champions Great Kusatsu & Animal Hamiguchi on January 8 and defeating Kimura in a rematch on January 28 in a best of three falls match (as the third pinfall was via disqualification, Kimura retained the title). He did, however, defeating Ronnie Garvin for the NWA Southeastern title knocking him out at the Knoxville Night of Champions on May 18, ^[9] before loosing the title back to Garvin on June 1, 1979.

Returning to Japan, he defeated Kimura in their third encounter finally winning the IWA World Heavyweight Championship on July 21, 1979 before loosing the title back to Kimura four days later.

He would eventually spend much of his later career in Japan, making over 30 tours to the country and later wrestled for All Japan Pro Wrestling and New Japan Pro Wrestling having memorable matches against Giant Baba and Antonio Inoki as well as American wrestlers Bruno Sammartino, Ric Flair, Terry Funk, Bruiser Brody and The Destroyer.

Return to North America

Returning from Japan, he would make a last appearance in the Mid-South region in a handicap match with Tank Patton, substituting for Blackjack Lanza, against Dick the Bruiser in St. Louis on November 24, 1978.

Teaming with Koloff throughout the U.S. between 1979 and 1981, he and Koloff won the NWA Georgia Tag Team Titles from Ole Anderson & Jack Briscoe in March 1980 before loosing the titles to Tony Atlas & Kevin Sullivan a month later. Although later regaining the titles on April 26, they would loose the titles to the Minnesota Wrecking Crew for a final time on June 8, 1980 before leaving Georgia.

He would also loose to IWA World Heavyweight Champion Rusher Kimura on November 22, 1980 and to United Heavyweight Champion Jumbo Tsuruta in a best of three falls match with Lamarche taking the first pinfall in 45 sec. although Tsuruta would take the other two falls to retain his title on October 27, 1981.

Settling with his family outside San Francisco the following year, Lamarche made occasional appearances in Hawaii and Australia in between touring Japan and later returned to Montreal to team with Mad Dog Lefebvre for a time winning the International Tag Team Championship from Gino Brito & Tony Parisi before loosing the titles to Raymond Rougeau, Sr. & Pat Patterson.

A participant in the 10th annual Champion's Carnival Tournament in early 1982, he would also loose to United Heavyweight Champion Jumbo Tsuruta on April 11, 1982 and also team with Stan Hansen against then International Tag Team Champions Jumbo Tsuruta & Giant Baba on April 3 before again loosing to Tsuruta in a rematch for the United National Heavyweight title on April 12, 1983. Teaming with Bruiser Brody, he would again fail to win the International Tag Team Championship from Tsuruta & Baba loosing to the tag team champions on February 28, 1984. ^[10]

While on the west coast, he also wrestled matches for the World Wrestling Federation during the early 1980s wrestling several matches against WWF Intercontinental Champion Tito Santana in late 1984 ^[11] as well as George Wells and teamed with The Spoiler against Bret Hart and David Sammartino in several tag team matches during early 1985. After a short lived feud with Ivan Putski and Rocky Johnson, ^[12] he also faced Ted Arcidi, Pedro Morales, Tony Garea, Dan Spivey and substituted for Nikolai Volkoff in several tag team matches with the Iron Sheik during early 1986 including a match against WWF World Tag Team Champions Greg "The Hammer" Valentine & Brutus "The Barber Beefcake on January 23 ^[13] before eventually leaving the WWF after declining a request to cancel his contract with the IWA.

During July 1986, he would team with Bad News Allen defeating Yoshiaki Fujiwara & Kazuo Yamazaki on July 20 and fought to a double count-out with Seiji Sakaguchi & George Takano on July 27 although, with Johnny Mantell, lost a 6-man tag team match to Antonio Inoki, Kengo Kimura and Tastumi Fujinami on July 29.

After loosing to Antonio Inoki & Kengo Kimura on August 1, ^[14] he would later appear in a series of matches for New Japan Pro Wrestling in Tokyo's Sumo Hall teaming with Hacksaw Higgins against Seiji Sakaguchi & George Takano on August 5, 1986 ^[15] and with Scott Hall against Takano & Umanosuke Ueda on June 12, 1987. ^[16]

American Wrestling Association and later career

During the last years of his career, he worked for the American Wrestling Association as "La Machine" Cecil DuBois and teamed with Igor Gordienko feuding with the Midnight Rockers for several months eventually loosing to the Midnight Rockers and Curt Hennig in a 6-man tag team match with Doug Somers and "Playboy" Buddy Rose at the supercard Battle by the Bay in June 1986. He later pinned Leon "Bull Power" White during a 6-man tag team match with Boris Zhukov and Yuri Gordyenko against Greg Gagne and Earthquake Ferris at the supercard Blood On The Sand in October 1986 ^[17], although he soon left the promotion by the end of the year.

Following his retirement in 1988, he eventually opened a wrestling school and appeared in commercials for car dealerships in the San Francisco-area and the Golden State Warriors. He also appeared in a several movies during the 1980s including Bad Guys, ^[18] Body Slam, Alcatraz 2000 and frequently appeared on the television series The Fall Guy. ^[3]

In 1999, Dubois made a one time appearance for promoter Jacques Rougeau, Jr.'s International Wrestling 2000 coming out of retirement to team with Ronnie and Jimmy Garvin in a 6-man tag team match against Jacques and Raymond Rougeau and their father 69-year-old Jacques Rougeau, Sr. in Montreal on August 9, 2000. ^[19]

He has also attained United States Army recongnition being Airborne, Ranger, Pathfinder, Sniper, Air Assault, Jump Master, combat life saver, and close quarters combat qualified. He has been deemed notable by Virginia's General Assembly In Joint Resolution 978 which states: "WHEREAS, a highly trained Army Ranger, Sergeant Bunky Woods, in service to his country and in his personal life, exemplifies mental, moral, and physical strength, as well as the core values of loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage attributed to the service members of the United States Army;..." SGT Woods was injured in Baghdad, August of 2006, by a sniper's bullet. He is yet another casualty in the controversial "Global War on Terrorism."

SGT Woods was born 4 October 1982. He grew up near Front Royal, VA and graduated in 2001 from Warren County High School. Upon graduation he went into the United States Armed Forces. SGT Woods honorably served this nation during two tours in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He has also completed various other tours in Bosnia, Korea, and Egypt.

SGT Woods survived the attack on his life and now lives in the State of Virginia. He was retired from his service on September 5, 2007.

Bayou Capital Management was a hedge fund company.

In 2005 it was discovered that Bayou capital was responsible for one of the most publicized hedge fund fraud in history.

In 1996, investors gave the fund US$300 million. Investors were promised that the fund would grow to about US$7.1 billion in ten years.

In 1998-9 trading losses accumulated quickly. The company started a dummy corporation and hired it to audit themselves.

According to federal prosecutors, Bayou had lied about its operations since the beginning, by “overstated gains, understated losses, and reported gains where there were losses.”

Court documents show that Bayou never made any money. In mid-2004, Bayou sent a letter to investors claiming that its assets valued in excess of US$450 million.

In 2004, Samuel Israel III and Daniel Marino, the CEO and CFO, respectively, stopped trading fully and spent all resources on covering losses. They were eventually caught wiring US$100 million overseas.

Robert Charles Reuland (1963-) is an American attorney and author of two novels: Hollowpoint (Random House 2001), which was nominated for a Dashiell Hammett Award in 2002, and Semiautomatic (Random House 2004). Both books are set in the Brooklyn D.A.’s Office, where Reuland was an assistant district attorney assigned to the Homicide Bureau. Reuland’s hard-edged but elegant writing is known for its gritty realism and has drawn praise from Dennis Lehane, Alan Furst, George Pelecanos, and James Patterson. A reviewer for the Washington Post referred to Semiautomatic as “the best-written legal thriller I’ve ever read, hands down.”

Reuland gained additional national notoriety in 2001 when fired from his position in the Brooklyn D.A.’s office shortly after the publication of his first book. In an interview with New York Magazine, Reuland observed that Brooklyn had “more bodies per square inch than anyplace else,” which angered Brooklyn District Attorney, Charles J. Hynes. Hynes demoted then fired Reuland, who brought a federal lawsuit claiming infringement of his First Amendment rights. Reuland prevailed after trial in 2004.

Born in Dallas and raised in Iowa, Reuland has lived in Park Slope, Brooklyn for nearly twenty years. He is married to Christine Abbate, a public relations executive, and they have two children.

Jann Haworth is an American artist and sculptor. She was raised in Hollywood, where her father Ted Haworth was an Oscar-winning production designer, responsible for the look of movie classics like Strangers on a Train, Some Like it Hot , Invasion of the Body-Snatchers and Sayonara. Her mother, Miriam Haworth is a distinguished ceramist, print-maker and painter. She taught Jann to sew at an early age, and it is this skill, together with her inside experience of film-making, that gives her work its unique character. In 1961, after two years at UCLA, she travelled to France to spend time with her father, who was making the 2nd World War film, The Longest Day, and from there to England, where she studied at the Courtauld Institute and the Slade. “At the latter she evolved an approach to making art that was at odds with [its] traditions of muscular draughtsmanship…first making sewn and stuffed soft sculptures of still life items like flowers and doughnuts, quickly progressing to her iconic Old Lady 1 (1962), a life-sized figure…structured over a wooden chair which served as the sculpture’s armature” (Christopher Finch, 2006, Catalogue for Mayor Gallery show). She first exhibited at the ICA, London, ‘Four Young Artists’ show in 1963. These early cloth sculptures predate the work of Claes Oldenburg. Jann Haworth became a leading member of the British Pop Art Movement in the 60s, and almost its only female member, mounting solo exhibitions at the Robert Fraser Gallery (’66 and ’69), Gallerie 20 in Amsterdam (’66), Studio Marconi in Milan (’68), and Sidney Janis in New York (’71). In 1967 she co-designed the iconic Sgt Pepper LP cover for the Beatles with her then husband, Peter Blake. In the ‘70s she and Blake were members of the group of artists known as the Brotherhood of Ruralists, and Jann founded and ran The Looking Glass School near Bath, Somerset, an arts and crafts primary and middle school. In 1979 she separated from Blake and commenced living with her present husband, the writer Richard Severy. During the subsequent two decades her artistic career took second place to her commitment to raising a young family ( 2 daughters, 3 step-daughters and a son), but she still found time to illustrate 5 of Severy’s books, create 5 covers for the Methuen Arden Shakespeare edition of1981,( King Richard III, Macbeth, Twelfth Night, Henry Fifth and Coriolanus), and 2 solo shows at Gimpel Fils Gallery, London (’93 and ’95). She also continued as head of the Looking Glass School and authored 3 ‘How to’ art books for children: Paint (1993, Merehurst), Collage (1994, Merehurst), and Painting and Sticking( with Miriam Haworth, 1995, Merehurst) In 1997 she was granted a special Robert Fraser award by the Churchill Fellowship to study American quilt making and returned to America, to live at Sundance, Utah, where she founded the Art Shack Studios and Glass Recycling Works, and co-founded the Sundance Mountain Charter School (now the Soldier Hollow Charter School). Since then, she has re-established her career with a solo show at the Mayor Gallery, London (’06), and forthcoming solo exhibitions at the Galerie du Centre, Paris (’08), Salt Lake City Library Gallery (’08), and ‘Women in Pop – Beyond the Surface’, Philadelphia 2010. She has also been represented in important recent Pop Art group shows: Pop Art UK, Galeria Civica di Modena, Italy (2004), Art and the 60s, Tate Britain (2004), British Pop, Museo del Bellas Artes de Bilbao, Spain, (2005), Pop Art and Politics in the Sixties Wolverhampton, England (2007), and ‘This is Pop’ International Pop Art 1956-1968, Rome ( 2007). In 2004 she conceived and co-created SLC PEPPER, a 50 by 30 ft mural in Salt Lake City, Utah,, representing an up-dated version of the Sgt Pepper record cover with stencil graffiti heads of over 75 new ‘heroes’, correcting the gender and ethnic biases of the original. This was a collaborative project involving over 30 artists.

Brig. Gen Michael C. Flowers is the commander of the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC). The mission of JPAC is to achieve the fullest possible accounting of all Americans missing as a result of the nation's past conflicts.

Brig. Gen Michael C. Flowers graduated from University of Kansas in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in history. In 1997, he earned a master’s degree in public administration from Shippensburg University. He is also a graduate of the U.S. Army War College. Flowers has held a variety of command and staff positions throughout his 28 years of service. He has also deployed to multiple military operations including Operation Urgent Fury (Granada); Operations Desert Shield and Storm (Saudi Arabia); and Operations Restore and Uphold Democracy (Haiti).

Flowers’ most recent assignment was as the chief of staff, NATO Kosovo Force (KFOR), Pristina, Kosovo, from July 2004 until June 2005. In July 1997, he assumed command of the 18th Aviation Brigade (Corps) (Airborne), XVIII Airborne Corps, Fort Bragg, N.C. In July 1999, he relinquished command and served as the chief, operations plans division, J-3, United States European Command, Stuttgart, Germany. Flowers then assumed the responsibilities of director, Center of Army Leadership, U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kan., from August 2001 until June 2003. From that assignment, he became the director, human resources policy directorate, office of the deputy chief of staff, G-1, United States Army, Washington D.C.

Flowers’ personal decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit (three awards), the Bronze Star Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (four awards) and the Air Medal. He also possesses the Senior Army Aviator Badge, the Master Parachutist Badge, and is Ranger qualified.

On September 01, 2006, members of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic and U.S. delegations, including Brigadier General Michael Flowers, Ambassador Patricia Haslach and Mr. Southam Sakonhninhom conducted Consultative Talks in Vientiane, Lao, P.D.R.. The Consultative Talks between the Joint POW/MIA Accounting Command (JPAC) and Lao PDR were held from August 30 – September 01, 2006 at the Maitichit Guest House. These consultative talks, first held in 1989, form the basis of conducting JPAC search and recovery operations in the Lao PDR. The meetings included a detailed review of bi-lateral field operations between the United States and Lao, P.D.R. The talks marked the final appearance of Khaikhamphithoune, a senior Lao delegation member who has worked alongside the U.S. for 15 years.

Neil's Heavy Concept Album is a 1984 recording of songs and spoken comedy routines by British actor Nigel Planer, in character as the long-suffering hippie Neil from the BBC comedy series The Young Ones.

The album followed the success of the Neil single "Hole In My Shoe", which reached number 2 in the United Kingdom. Along with original tracks are covers of hippie-era songs including Pink Floyd's "The Gnome", Donovan's "Hurdy Gurdy Man", Tomorrow's "My White Bicycle", The Incredible String Band's "A Very Cellular Song" (titled "The Amoeba Song" here), and Caravan's "Golf Girl" (featuring Dawn French as a not-so-nice fairy godmother).

The album starts with a spoken apology ("Hello, Vegetables") in which Neil apologizes for the album's quality. Additional spoken tracks include Neil having a conversation with a potato in a sewer ("Heavy Potato Encounter"), reciting a poem to his rubber plant ("Wayne"), and experiencing a flashback ("Paranoid Remix"). Also included is a parody horror movie commercial, "Neil The Barbarian", which sees vegetarian Neil being turned into a monster by accidentally eating a hamburger.

Among the originals is the Planer composition "Lentil Nightmare", a dark metal number that quotes from King Crimson's "The Court Of The Crimson King" and features Planer singing in an uncharacteristic loud, high falsetto. In "Bad Karma In The UK", Neil's mom (played by musician Barbara Gaskin) admonishes him to watch his I-ching, chew his food eleven times, and remember his expectorant.

The album was heavily promoted by MTV, who had embraced The Young Ones and served as the sole outlet for the original LP. A television commercial for the album had Neil in character talking about his "really beautiful" album, displaying a hole in his shoe, and hitting his head on a table.
