Information icon Hello. In a recent edit to the page Crusades, you changed one or more words or styles from one national variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect national varieties of English in Wikipedia articles.

For a subject exclusively related to the United Kingdom (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English. For something related to another English-speaking country, such as Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, India, or Pakistan use the variety of English used there. For an international topic, use the form of English that the original author of the article used.

In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to another, even if you don't normally use the version in which the article is written. Respect other people's versions of English. They, in turn, should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Manual of Style. If you have any questions about this, you can ask me on my talk page or visit the help desk. Thank you. Philip Trueman (talk) 13:42, 26 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

October 2021

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy or request a change of username.

It also appears that your account is intended to be used for the purpose of telling the world about an organization, person or cause that you consider worthwhile. Unfortunately, many good causes are not sufficiently notable for their own Wikipedia article, and all users are discouraged from editing in any area where they have an inherent conflict of interest. You may wish to consider one of these alternative outlets. Additionally, if your contributions to Wikipedia form all or part of work for which you are, or expect to be, paid, you must disclose who is paying you to edit.

Please also note that you are permitted to use a username that contains the name of a company or organization if it identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87".

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text

{{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}

at the bottom of your talk page. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names.

 Thank you. Orange Mike | Talk 00:01, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I'd like to respond to the block reasons provided in turn. First, I am not an organization. Anyone familiar with English Church History would know that William (Wm) Laud, Archbishop of Canterbury, despised the Puritans and threw as many of them into jail as he could round up. My username is a riff on that. It does not represent any organization, nor will you find any evidence I am trying to start an organization like that. Second, I am not sure what "worthwhile cause" I am supposed to be personally advocating for. If you look at my list of edits, they cover a broad range of topics from church history to Chick-fil-A and are usually only grammatical/syntactical corrections, or updating a list (such as my addition to private schools in Jackson, TN). Third, I am not being paid to edit Wikipedia. I do not edit regularly enough to warrant that accusation. While not all of my corrections have been accepted, I think you can see I really do not mean any harm. I want Wikipedia to be complete. Where it is not, I like to go in and make the change. I learned a lot from other editors, such as User:Aseleste about notability and User: Philip Trueman about respect. It seems that User: Orangemike only took offense when I edited the page about Jackson, TN, to include another school which had been left off of the list of private academies in the city. Based on his user page, it seems like Orange Mike is from Jackson and feels some animosity toward the city. I am sorry to hear that, but blocking my account from editing does not seem like a reasonable reaction. I would appreciate being reinstated, as no one else, even other users who rejected my edits, have had issues with my username or my presence on Wikipedia. Thank you for your consideration.WmLaudPuritanPrisonMinistry (talk) 01:16, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Accept reason:

Explanation is clear and concise; unblock request accepted. I am familiar with Laud and his relationship with Puritanism, but some American Protestants, especially in the South, are surprisingly unclear on ecclesiastic history. (But the wisecrack about Jackson? Not much assumption of good faith there.) Orange Mike | Talk 02:39, 24 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
