Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. We welcome and appreciate your contributions, including your edits to Gladys Emma Peto, but we cannot accept original research. Original research refers to material—such as facts, allegations, ideas, and personal experiences—for which no reliable, published sources exist; it also encompasses combining published sources in a way to imply something that none of them explicitly say. Please be prepared to cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. Thank you. McGeddon (talk) 11:35, 18 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Timothy R Clark

The article Timothy R Clark has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Personal essay on various connected subjects - inappropriate per WP:NOTESSAY.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hi. I've moved your article to your sandbox, where you can play around with it. Please read the guidelines before creating any further articles. Deb (talk) 11:47, 18 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • The expression "you can play around with it" may be misleading. You may work on it to bring it up to the standard required for a Wikipedia article, but you may not just treat it as a place to indefinitely store a page which is not suitable as an article, and if yo appear to be doing that then it may be deleted. As a pensioner and being very new to wikipedia, I wanted to express my personal experiences of learning about Plant Heritage with these Ladies before this knowledge is lost. I am confused why you have removed the book reference on Margery Fish? I understand it could be an issue, but it is about Margery herself and is accepted as her definitive biography.

  • Bulleted list item

Can you point me in the right direction of how to reference Margery's book please. I didn't realise I had offended. In the book is a personal letter from Margery to myself. How do I cite this? I would like to record my knowledge so if you could guide me I would be grateful. Most importantly Mrs.C.W.Earle who wrote the first best seller on gardening Timothy r. clark (talk) 11:19, 22 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the recording of knowledge - WP:OUTLET has some advice on other online services which are better places to post your personal experiences. I'd recommend starting a blog, or finding an internet forum where you can discuss plant heritage with others; http://mygarden.rhs.org.uk/forums/ might be worth a look. --McGeddon (talk) 11:49, 22 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Personal comments in articles, and the need for sources =

A Wikipedia article should not contain personal reflections, such as those you added to the article Gladys Emma Peto, and it should not be written in the first person. An article needs to be written in the impersonal "voice" of Wikipedia, not the personal voices of the various contributors to the article. Also, content of articles should be verifiable by reference to reliable sources: it is not sufficient that someone who chooses to come along and edit Wikipedia says so. Margery Fish, etc

Hi. I received your e-mail but I don't reply to Wikipedia e-mail unless it contains confidential information. Your query was nothing that could not be said openly on my Talk page. I don't have a great deal of time to spare but I am willing to help if you can be more specific. For a start, have you included the Country Life articles you mention as references? If not, can you give me the details. Deb (talk) 12:05, 23 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]
