Request reason:

Hi, we realise that here at Surfplugs we have been blocked from Wikipedia, this was not intentional advertising, we are a genuine business trying to promote awareness of surfers ear and prevent surfers ear surgery in surfers - as result you will see that Surfplugs is a surfers ear resource site, run by qualified audiologists, which is its main intention. At the time we didnt realise that we were doing anything illegal and were just adding well researched information about surfers ear to wikipedia. Please consider unblocking us.

Decline reason:

I see no indication that you've done anything other than promote your own product; we don't get to do that on Wikipeida. --jpgordon∇∆∇∆ 19:44, 22 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your feedback Jpgordon. I can understand your approach but if this is the case then why to links such as proplugs exist on Wikipedia? We were simply providing a source of help for surfers suffering this condition. If you compare Surfplugs against Proplugs you will see that our site contains medical information provided by Surgeons from CA as well as other relevant articles, videos from those suffering with the condition, photos about the condition and Q&A about the condition. The site Surfplugs is dedicated to preventing surfers ear surgery and is run by qualified National Health Service audiologists, I have written several articles on surfers ear for magazines, websites and medical journals and, Yes, we do sell a product but that is to help avoid surfers ear problems and surfers ear surgery in the same way as other earplugs and Proplugs do which are mentioned on Wikipedia. We feel Surfplugs is a relevant information resource site and it was not our intention to directly promote the product but this is unfortunately the way in which us promoting this information was interpreted - thank you for your consideration, Rob Shaddick,MIOA

Decline reason:

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a free advertising service. Just because there is similar content does not mean that yours is appropriate. Also, I searched Special:LinkSearch for every conceivable combination of "proplugs", and I found nothing. J.delanoygabsadds 17:02, 31 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your feedback J.delanoy. I do feel a littel aggrieved being that we felt we were helping to raise the information and awareness of this condition - especially as our website contains alot of medical information and I am medically qualified to provide this having worked with surfers ear for over 16 years. In regards to the comment you made about Proplugs.. there is a blatant advertising hyperlink of the surfplugs page.. this is frustrating to us as clearly we were trying to provide useful comment (which was construed as advertising) whilst proplugs can blatantly directly advertise/// follow their link.. theres very little medical info. any consideration of reducing or unblocking us is appreciated. thank you, rob shaddick,MIOA

This only tells us that you wish to continue the sort of edits that got you blocked in the first place. To avoid any conflicts of interest, you will need to remain away from pages relating to your company. Hersfold (t/a/c) 21:50, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, this is a case where their link was already removed almost a week ago as advertising. In regards to unblocking you, you're pretty much going to have to commit to remain away from pages that you have a Conflict of interest in if you want to be unblocked. Any contributions in those areas would have to be limited to suggestions on the articles talk pages. Would you want to edit Wikipedia if you can't edit in those areas? 24.99.242.63 (talk) 15:51, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
