regarding the date for SITO, while it was true that the project was announced (via USENET) in january 1993, it wasnt properly a "web site" at this time. it was merely an ftp site for exchanging images. i am not entirely sure of the date some of the project (thought not all) started moving onto the web, but i would guess that it was around july 1993. (i have seen info that at least one sito [then 'otis'] collaborative project was on the web at this time.) i am guessing that more moved onto the web (notably at sunsite.unc.edu) within a few months of this timeframe. thanks.
