I have a feeling you might like these

I have created two new articles which I think you might be interested in reading: Sailortown, Belfast and 1907 Belfast Dock strike.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 14:38, 1 December 2011 (UTC)

I see this article was removed. Anyone know why? Sarah777 (talk) 18:04, 26 November 2011 (UTC)

Seems a hoaxer added some content. Don't know how developed or established the article was. Perhaps contact the deleting ed? I'd be curious myself and happy to help out with clean-up if restored. Just left a note. RashersTierney (talk) 18:53, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
I had no input (that I recall) to this article, but as the village clearly exists I can't understand why the article would be removed. Mostly articles vandalised are simply cleaned up! Sarah777 (talk) 19:16, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
It was deleted by user:Geni with the reasoning "G3: Blatant hoax: at least some of the article is a hoax while the author continues to claim that it is all true. Can't trust so delete". An example edit summary from shortly before deletion was, "regardless of whether that reference exists, it cannot have mentioned "Jedward"" by user:DragonflySixtyseven, the reference in question being to a May 1985 edition of the Limerick Chronicle.
Personally I would have stubbed it to just the basic geographical facts, but there may be something else I'm not seeing - I suggest asking Geni on his talk page. In case it's any help, almost all the references were to "Thomas Toomey & Harry Greensmyth, An Antique and Storied Land: A History of the Parish of Donoughmore, Knockea, Roxborough, Co. Limerick and its Environs (Limerick, 1991)". Certainly in the revisions I've looked at, there were not online references making verification harder. Thryduulf (talk) 19:29, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
Seems the article was a mess from the beginning. Care to kick it off again? I'll chip in where I can. RashersTierney (talk) 20:49, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
OK - but I'll have to find out something about first - I don't recall ever being there. I've heard of it and seen it on Google maps. It makes tiny look huge! Sarah777 (talk) 09:55, 27 November 2011 (UTC)
As if life wasn't complicated enough, this turns up. Presumably its the one with the Sarsfield connection? RashersTierney (talk) 10:17, 27 November 2011 (UTC)
According to An Post, Ballyneety is on the R512 road between Limerick and Bruff. A post office was opened there between 1852 and 1857 and still exists today. It is also listed in my Gazetteer of Ireland published by the Placenames Branch of the Ordnance Survey in 1989, ISBN=0-7076-0076-6, where the Irish name is given as Baile an Fhaoitigh. No second place of the same name is given in any of 3 references I have. This image is hosted on the commons. The Sarsfield connection appears entirely correct [1]. Cheers folks. ww2censor (talk) 16:31, 27 November 2011 (UTC)

The R512 article is even skimpier than the Ballyneety article was ;) Sarah777 (talk) 13:24, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
. . . and you can still read the original Ballyneety article here[2], if your quick! -- Bill Reid | (talk) 19:20, 1 December 2011 (UTC)

Ballyneety data

I noticed this chat about Ballyneety last week and did some very preliminary looking around to see what I could dig up. I had to find out which Ballyneety was under discussion because there are a number of them, in Counties Limerick, Mayo, Tipperary, and Waterford. There are five Ballyneetys in County Limerick alone. The table below summarises what I found out before I understood that the Ballyneety under discussion was the first in the table. I will put the table here for want of a better place as the data in the first row can be incorporated into a re-created Ballyneety article, and maybe a one-liner could be inserted mentioning that there are other Ballyneetys around.

The only odd things I noticed in that copy of the old article at Ask.com found by Bill Reid, above, is that it says the village is twinned with Chorlton-cum-Hardy, which sounds like someone is having a chortle, but it could possibly be true, and the reference to the Winnie Mandela Memorial Water Pump, has the stink of satire off it, but since the people of Ireland voted for Dustin the Turkey to represent our proud and ancient nation internationally, anything at all can be true in Ireland, even if it sounds dodgy, because our subversive spirits are quick to embrace surrealism and make it official. The citation to support the Mandela hand pump could be fiction. I would omit these two claims from a new Ballyneety article. — O'Dea (talk) 15:05, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

Ballyneety water pump

The green and yellow water pump shown in the Wikicommons picture actually exists. I found it in Google Street View. It is on a minor side road heading west from the R512 road, in the direction of Kelleher's Cross. The pump is under a tree on the side street beside the yellow police station. Here are two screeshots from Google Street View: picture 1, picture 2. I fucking love Street View. — O'Dea (talk) 16:54, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

Hey - why not delete it. Sure 'tis only a River in Ireland. And we know what that counts for on Wiki - with the avid support of the remaining (non-banned) Irish Wikipedians!
Delete it. Sarah777 (talk) 19:11, 26 December 2011 (UTC)

Happy Christmas

Season's greetings!
I hope the holiday season is relaxing and fulfilling, and that 2012 will be fruitful for you. --John (talk) 00:33, 25 December 2011 (UTC)

Thanks John. It will (touch wood) be happy and fruitful! But looking at this latest bizare proposal to delete an article I created, River Avonmore, I doubt this place will be much a part of said happiness and fruitfulness. Very best to you in the New Year - thanks for everything Sarah777 (talk) 19:21, 26 December 2011 (UTC)
Hah, don't worry about that, some newbie with a bee in their bonnet. We don't delete articles like this unless they are hoaxes, which this one clearly is not. --John (talk) 19:48, 26 December 2011 (UTC)
That time of year again Sarah. Have a good new one. Best. RashersTierney (talk) 21:58, 31 December 2011 (UTC)

And a Peaceful and Prosperous New Year

Been busy busy busy in RL these days but to all my friends on Wiki I wish you health, wealth and peace in the coming twelve months. Sarah777 (talk) 22:53, 31 December 2011 (UTC)

Lovely sentiments, Sarah. Thank you and I wish the same to you. Happy 2012!!--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 09:05, 1 January 2012 (UTC)

Coordinates on roads articles

In the off-chance you're checking in occasionally, there is an RfC that may be of interest. Best. RashersTierney (talk) 16:47, 17 January 2012 (UTC)

Just back from my own personal blackout! (Protesting against censorship on Wikipedia - irony abounds!)
tbh, I have no views on this geo-roads thingy. And as for Ballyneety! Seriously Rash - the photo describes it as being in somewhere called the Republic of Ireland. Where the ph*** is that?! Sarah777 (talk) 23:02, 19 January 2012 (UTC)
I know. Its a poor enough photo, might just drop it. Maybe the next time you're in the area? Anyways, good to hear from you. RashersTierney (talk) 00:40, 20 January 2012 (UTC)

Redcross & Joseph Holt (rebel) Elizabethan planter apical ancestor

G'day Sarah777, I'm glad to see that RashersTierney (talk) is a wikiEditor friend of yours as I've just made his acquaintance thanks to the following. As you apparently started the Redcross, County Wicklow, Ireland stub & my father, Lionel Fowler, a 3xGreat Grandson of 1798 United Irish General Joseph Holt (rebel) (which has been controversially contributed to recently by Editor Author, Dramatist Peter O'Shaughnessy (talk)), Emailed me today a pers comm today regarding the Late "Sean 'Sonny' Holt was told [apparently] by his grandfather who lived there, as did Sean, [his Late wife] Annie and children, that an Elizabethan knight named Holt was granted their family's O'Toole land at Redcross[, County Wicklow, Ireland]. Could you please trace this?" I'm wondering if you know anyone in Redcross or other historians who maybe in a position to help raise that awareness as I've not easily found any other reference here online. Kind regards, Matthew (talk) 16:18, 4 February 2012 (UTC)

Hi Matthew. Just now seen this. I know almost nothing about Redcross other than passing through it and have no connections with anyone there. It is a tiny village so I'm not surprised there isn't much about it on the web. I don't even recall it ever being in the news for any reason! Regards Sarah777 (talk) 22:03, 12 February 2012 (UTC)

I've just noticed the article hasn't expanded much since I created the stub! (Bar Sswonk's usual improvements) Sarah777 (talk) 22:07, 12 February 2012 (UTC)

Better than the Easter's greeting I received last evening User talk:Jeanne boleyn. No doubt the IP's disgruntled because the Easter Bunny didn't give him a chocolate egg. Oh well, we can't all be the Easter Bunny's favoured creatures.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 08:53, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
See that. I'd say a chocolate egg isn't the only thing the creep doesn't get! But why leave his comment up? Back in the day (when I attracted some flack here) I used to zap such comments with extreme prejudice!
And Happy Easter to you too ;)Sarah777 (talk) 12:41, 13 April 2012 (UTC)

Pan-Hibernian Ubiquity

I can't pretend to be polite and contain my curiosity any longer. Do you have a job that involves driving all over Ireland? I ask because you have supplied so many pictures of roads and hamlets that it is obvious you get out a lot and for some time now I have been scratching my head and wondering, "Does she pay for all her own petrol, or is she the All-Ireland Inspector of Road Signs?" — O'Dea (talk) 13:29, 17 April 2012 (UTC)

I get out a lot! Still do but my Wiki-activity has been dampened down by the institutionalised bias in this place. I have no connection with any roads authority or any other Govt agency! I'm self-employed :) Sarah777 (talk) 20:16, 21 April 2012 (UTC)
I enjoy travel myself but I really am impressed by your range within Ireland. Does your self employment involve a lot of travel in Ireland (I won't pry about what you do, exactly), or do you just drive a lot for pleasure? — O'Dea (talk) 17:04, 23 April 2012 (UTC)
For example - here is a recent one from that weirdest place...Adamstown. Sarah777 (talk) 20:56, 21 April 2012 (UTC)
It looks like one of those places that appear in nightmares when the dreamer finds his familiar neighbourhood has disappeared and been replaced by something alien and hostile.--Jeanne Boleyn (talk) 06:30, 22 April 2012 (UTC)
Oh, I see, you are a film location scout and you have been commissioned to find locations for some dystopian science fiction film. Without those funny captions, we could use that fine picture to illustrate Adamstown, Dublin. — O'Dea (talk) 17:04, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

I think it would be a bit unfair to the bit of Adamstown that is built and inhabited! Sarah777 (talk) 20:38, 6 May 2012 (UTC)

Do you have a photo?

Hi Sarah, perhaps you are stalking this page, in which case I well know your great Irish photos and wonder if you have any images of Roscommon town to improve the article which is rather lacking. Geograph.ie has very few and they are not even very good. Cheers ww2censor (talk) 21:18, 18 May 2012 (UTC)

Hi Ww
I have no pics of Roscommon Town - must be one of the few places I'm missing!
I stalk here intermittently - as you can see :) Sarah777 (talk) 23:41, 1 June 2012 (UTC)
Thanks anyway. Keep well. ww2censor (talk) 04:05, 2 June 2012 (UTC)

O Dear! Another one bites the dust.....Sarah777 (talk) 05:48, 19 September 2012 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on 1716 in Ireland requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you.  Ryan Vesey 14:02, 3 August 2012 (UTC)

I object. The notion that nothing happened in Ireland in 1716 is ludicrous. Even by Wiki Anglophile standards.....Sarah777 (talk) 23:44, 4 August 2012 (UTC)

I'm puzzled by this one! The discussion said "keep" but the image was deleted. Not a great pic but nothing wrong with it - one never ceases to wonder at the ways of Wiki...Sarah777 (talk) 07:54, 13 December 2012 (UTC)

Hello, Sarah777, and thank you for your contributions!

Some text in an article that you worked on River Blackwater, Meath, appears to be directly copied from another Wikipedia article, River Goul. Please take a minute to double-check that you've properly attributed the source text in your edit summary.

It's entirely possible that this bot made a mistake, so please feel free to remove this notice and the tag it placed on River Blackwater, Meath at any time. MadmanBot (talk) 15:38, 23 December 2012 (UTC)

Wow! You are a quick bot. It was copied and pasted about 2 minutes ago! I was using the Ghoul as a template; in process of editing it when you struck. Sarah777 (talk) 15:55, 23 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Carrigadrohid, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page River Lee (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 12:49, 28 December 2012 (UTC)

Thank you Mr Bot. I have fixed the link; I have also disambiguated the River Lea in the UK. Sarah777 (talk) 20:28, 28 December 2012 (UTC)
And I've moved it back. The disambiguation was discussed last year. Please discuss the move on the talk page first before making a change. Simply south...... walking into bells for just 6 years 20:33, 28 December 2012 (UTC)
Why did you move it back? Isn't that edit warring? Sarah777 (talk) 20:36, 28 December 2012 (UTC)
Only if more than one reversion occurred. Anyway, another user John (talk · contribs) has proposed moving the one in Ireland to River Lee, which I see you've already started at. I will reply later there. Simply south...... walking into bells for just 6 years 11:03, 29 December 2012 (UTC)

Category:Pictures by Sarah777 at Wikimedia Commons

Congratulations! You have a new category for your images at Wikimedia Commons. I was fiddling with more regional road articles here in Wikipedia and saw yet more of your images in them, and went to list them out at Commons using Special:ListFiles/Sarah777, but that only showed those you uploaded directly to Commons. Many pictures you uploaded originally to Wikipedia have been moved to Commons by a bot and do not show up in that list.

So, I created Category:Pictures by Sarah777, then I ran a search for text "Sarah777" that listed all your files at Commons – those you uploaded there and those added by the Wikipedia transfer bot – and used an automated tool to add that new category to all your files (1,286 of them, for Jaysus's sake). Fortunately, the tool did all the work automatically.

In future, when you upload a picture to Commons, if you include the text [[Category:Pictures by Sarah777]], the picture will be included in the new category and will show up in your new "album", mar a déarfá. The category is a "hidden user category" so you won't see it listed at the bottom of the file page unless you change your Commons preferences at Special:Preferences → Appearance → Show hidden categories, and then save your preference change.

Now that I have seen how many pictures you have taken of the Irish landscape, I am more intrigued than ever to know what your travelling job is. Your prolific work reminds me of Father Browne's photomania. G'luck, and happy new year. — O'Dea (talk) 12:16, 29 December 2012 (UTC)

Many thanks! Only saw this now...as you can see I'm not active here at the moment but I think I'll be back some day! 23:24, 17 March 2013 (UTC)

Hi Folks!

Anyone know how to get the infobox for Knockcroghery back to normal size? I can't figure it out.....Sarah777 (talk) 23:21, 17 March 2013 (UTC)

Looks standard size (to me) in Firefox. Apart from having some extra parameters, how does it look different from use in other similar articles? RashersTierney (talk) 01:22, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
In Chrome it is half the width of the page - but the infoboxes in similar articles look fine. And yes - it looks fine in Firefox. Bizarre! (talk) 16:26, 27 March 2013 (UTC)
Have posted the question at Template talk:Infobox settlement#Odd size in Chrome, apparently. Hopefully there will be a fix posted either here or there, (preferably both!). RashersTierney (talk) 18:34, 27 March 2013 (UTC)
I opened the article in Chrome (almost never use) and it looks 'normal' - no different from other infoboxes in articles I connected to from 'Knockcroghery'. Perhaps it has something to do with your settings - see the answer at the Infobox TP, linked above. Best. RashersTierney (talk) 22:21, 27 March 2013 (UTC)

And this says.....

Hmmmm ... looks like the signpost is correct and the logainm posting is wrong since some of the research also points to no "possessive" apostrophe. But then we have the Irish Times ancestor search with the apostrophe, but when we click the parish we get no apostrophe. Perhaps both are in use? --HighKing (talk) 12:26, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

Perhaps the law takes precedent on this one whether you like it or not. Some new names were truly awful; I mean who prefers An Nás to Nás na Riogh amongst others. ww2censor (talk) 19:53, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

Certainly not me WW! They did a similar botch job on Bray....Sarah777 (talk) 00:52, 20 March 2013 (UTC)
Just found out that according to ahg.gov.ie (Dept of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht), the Ordinance Survey of Ireland maps are the "official" source for names, and they spell it with an apostrophe. --HighKing (talk) 17:49, 20 March 2013 (UTC)

Thanks a lot – I just wasted 15 minutes watching the map animation and the scrolling live list of article edits! Someone in the Philippines edited Wedding dress of Grace Kelly right before my eyes. Is there anything left on earth without an article? And someone in the Far East is interested in a fashion item (which included a lace- and pearl-encrusted prayer book) in tiny Monaco from 57 years ago. Enigmatic portrait of a sign L8282

Hi Sarah. Can we say where this lovely sign is located, please? It is used in the local roads article. Thanks, and g'luck! — O'Dea (talk) 04:00, 26 June 2013 (UTC)

Google maps +52° 58' 15.02", -6° 45' 57.34" is where the L8282 joins the R747 in a place known locally as Tinoran. Hope you can find it!
Regards Sarah777 (talk) 17:18, 30 June 2013 (UTC)
Thanks! I found it just north of Baltinglass. I've updated the file description and articles that use the picture. My picture of a local road sign is darker than yours. — O'Dea (talk) 20:55, 2 July 2013 (UTC)
North of Baltinglass! West, surely?? Sarah777 (talk) 21:02, 2 July 2013 (UTC)
I suppose we are both right, and that's not just tact. It is northwest of Baltinglass. — O'Dea (talk) 22:06, 4 July 2013 (UTC)
Indeed! I always imagined it due west. Odd that. Sarah777 (talk) 21:04, 5 July 2013 (UTC)

Help wanted

Seeing that List of populated places in Ireland is the new name for List of towns and villages in Ireland I decided (don't ask me why!) to remove the old name and replace it with a direct link to the new one. Started in Donegal - where I also stopped.

Is there some method of doing this with one majestic command?

It could take several days non-stop to update all the articles manually.

WP:AWB might be worth a look. I would offer to help but I am on holiday. Good luck! --John (talk) 18:17, 14 July 2013 (UTC)
I don't know how to do it in one fell swoop but do you know why it was renamed? It happened in January. Was there a discussion about it? I cannot see the perpetrator engaged in discussion about it prior to his intervention, nor can I see any immediate benefit in the new, more abstract name. Have you tried simply moving it back to the old name, and save yourself the headache? Failing that, take your question to Wikipedia:Village pump (technical) or Wikipedia:Editor assistance/Requests. — O'Dea (talk) 23:32, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
I just moved the list back to its former name. You would have had to change 1,298 articles to the new name, which is unnecessary when a simple Move (rename) creates a simple redirect that will take care of the problem in one, effortless go. — O'Dea (talk) 23:49, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
Thanks O'Dea...now I'll have to undo the mess I created in Donegal! I have no idea why the name was changed and wasn't happy with it but I just assumed it went through due process. (I'm resigning myself to that slowly but surely!)
Some people used to add their local one-house townland as a "village" and these were ususlly removed so maybe the solo-run name change was to facilitate that?

Sorry–must dash!

I stumbled across your cri de coeur, 'I do not know what "Em dash" means!' Well, this is an em dash (—) and this is an en dash (–). They can be encoded by typing — and –. You can read about their uses at Dash. — O'Dea (talk) 17:39, 29 July 2013 (UTC)

Thank you Sir. You are a gentleman, a scholar and perhaps, so far as I know, maybe even an acrobat :)Sarah777 (talk) 21:01, 29 July 2013 (UTC)

Can't believe nobody has created an article about this metropolis. Are the Derrynacreevian wikipedians proud of their hamlet?? Sarah777 (talk) 08:41, 11 October 2013 (UTC)

Help wanted - I was in Blacklion yesterday

Either I've forgotten how or the rules for page creation have changed; I was trying to post this first draft and could find nowhere to put it - lots of exciting pictures of dismal signery to follow:

R200 somewhere

The R200 road is a regional road in County Leitrim and County Cavan, Ireland. Going from west to east, the route connects the towns of Drumkeeran, Dowra,Glengavlen and Derrynacreeve. En route it crosses the R207 at Dowra, is joined by the R206 at Glengavlen, passes through the 'Bellavelly Gap before terminating in Derrynacreeve at the N87 national secondary route. [1]

The official description of the R200 from the Roads Act 1993 (Classification of Regional Roads) Order 2006 [1] reads:

R323 Kiltimagh - Knock - Ballyhaunis, County Mayo
Between its junction with R320 at Main Street Kiltimagh and its junction with N60 at Hazelhill in the town of Ballyhaunis via Thomas Street at Kiltimagh; Roosky, Cloonlee, Knock, Greenwood, Tooraree; and Relief Road in the town of Ballyhaunis all in the county of Mayo.

The road is in Southeast County Mayo and is 22 kilometres (14 mi) long.

Ignore the references to County Mayo and the R323 - I was going to fix those....Sarah777 (talk) 08:03, 11 October 2013 (UTC)
