Farris Rahall

A tag has been placed on Farris Rahall , requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be a biographical account about a person, group of people, or band, but it does not indicate how or why he/she/they is/are notable. If you can indicate why Farris Rahall is really notable, I advise you to edit the article promptly, and also put a note on Talk:Farris Rahall . Any admin should check for such edits before deleting the article. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Please read our criteria for speedy deletion, particularly item 7 under Articles. You might also want to read our general biography criteria. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. To contest the tagging and request that admins should wait a while for you to assert his/her/their notability, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and then immediately add such an assertion. It is also a very good idea to add citations from reliable sources to ensure that your article will be verifiable. - Peripitus (Talk) 03:11, 9 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

{{unblock}} Hi, according to your block log you are not blocked - is the above an error or did you get a block message? We can't unblock you at this time, because you haven't given us the information we need to even look into your block. You yourself were not blocked; if you were prevented from editing, you must have been autoblocked or blocked because of your IP address. I'm removing your unblock request because there's nothing we can do without this information. If you still want to be unblocked, feel free to add the {{unblock}} tag back to this page, and be sure to include the message you saw when you tried to edit, including the IP address. This is what the message looks like. Without that information, we can't help you. Mangojuicetalk 14:05, 20 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ross, it may not have been entirely clear to you, but Pgk removed the autoblock (which was responsible for the unintentional block of your account) two days ago. Things should be fine now. Tijuana Brass¡Épa! 04:28, 10 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for that curt reply. Really makes one feel welcome, especially since I like requesting unblocks for the heck of it. While the first block might have gone away two days ago, a new block has just gone away 2 minutes ago. Again thank you (I'll try to have things be more clear to me in the future, like Wiki's policy on rude behavior) (RossF18 04:35, 10 August 2006 (UTC))[reply]

Hi. I've been working on the List of Registered Historic Places in Florida, whittling down the red links. Thanks for the add of St. Petersburg High School. But that made it list twice (under the Central High School entry), so I removed yours, and redirected the other to go directly to the high school.

I also deleted your Stetson University Law School entry, b/c it's not on the National Register of Historic Places, which the particular list is about. I checked, and was surprised not to find it [1]. If you can find it somewhere I missed, go ahead and document it and add it back. I've visited the campus, it's gorgeous, and should be on the National Register. But that's true of a lot of places.

Hope this is all ok, and you keep contributing, 'cause it's appreciated.  :) --Ebyabe 17:16, 1 October 2006 (UTC) [reply]

Image tagging for Image:X-Treme-X-Men-5.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:X-Treme-X-Men-5.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

It's not that I don't believe the paragraph that states,

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme located at St. Petersburg High School, the oldest of its kind in Florida,[3] has achieved considerable academic prestige. [4]

It's just that I'd like the claim of being "the oldest in Florida" verified. For example, on what date did it open? What do you have to justify the phrase "[it] has achieved considerable academic prestige."? What do we consider "considerable academic prestige" to be? If I were going to throw acronyms at you, I'd cite WP:WEASEL and WP:NPOV on that. But remember, I'm just trying to make the article better. WP:CITE never hurt anybody. :) —Disavian (talk/contribs) 06:15, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Damian Tryp

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Damian Tryp, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree with the notice, discuss the issues at its talk page. Removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, but the article may still be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached, or if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria. --PsyphicsΨΦ 20:28, 6 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

To answer your comment on RIANZ talk page the issue came up because I'm familiar with the character and have been worried an article would be made about him since someone redlinked his name in the X-Factor Investigations article. I was away from Wikipedia for a couple months and this article popped up under my radar, I saw it and did something about it today when I found it. It's not a bias, I just knew it was coming. I'm a fan of the series, and know enough about Wikipedia to realize someone would make an article about the character that would fail a lot of the policies and guidance of Wikipedia (as that's the only way I can see an article being made about this character) --PsyphicsΨΦ 03:06, 7 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on John B. Stetson Company, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (below the existing db tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. intgr 04:21, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your image on your user page had been deleted, due to it not being used in any articles. This meant that the image on your userpage was now a redlink (like this). I am able to take off those links when an image is deleted, which is what I did to your page. In a nutshell: I just removed a dead link from your page where the image used to be.--Wizardman 17:06, 8 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:12514-iceman_400.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:12514-iceman_400.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 15:19, 18 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Notability of Eckerd paragraph in Tom Perrotta

Hi! I had removed the short paragraph on Perrotta's serving as guest faculty at Eckerd College because I didn't believe it to be notable; in the grand scheme of his "Career" it was a relatively insignificant position. (Imagine trying to list all the times Joyce Carol Oates, for example, has served on a guest faculty panel or appeared at a conference.) True, there is a source referencing the information, but it's the St. Petersburg Times (and Eckerd is in St. Petersburg), so I feel as if the source is not completely "independent from the subject," and the information seems (to me) to be of local and "news burst" interest only. (I don't know a ton about Perrotta, though, so the position may indeed be a crucial one in terms of his career. Let me know.) Hobbesy3 03:28, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

    • Fair enough. I have one other comment (unrelated to the paragraph's notability.) The article as of now reads:

To me, it seems redundant to in essence say, "He was invited by Dennis Lehane. The short version is, he was invited by Dennis Lehane." Could those two sentences be replaced with:

(If that's even any better. I realized while writing it what a difficult thing it is to phrase "two people having taught alongside each other.") And sorry about the deletion. Thanks, Hobbesy3 04:27, 15 July 2007 (UTC) [reply]

No fair use rational on Image:EC-shell.jpg

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:EC-shell.jpg, by Thejerm (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:EC-shell.jpg is an unfree image with no fair use rationale uploaded after May 4, 2006 which has been tagged as not having a rationale for more than 7 days (CSD I6).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Image:EC-shell.jpg, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. --Android Mouse Bot 2 19:24, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Storm.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 15:58, 27 July 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG 15:58, 27 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yevtushenko

Hi there, just wanted to thank you for all the good work you've been doing on Yevgeny Yevtushenko. His article was a total mess until you came along, read more like an attack page than an encyclopedia article....I would have done more work on it myself, but I was a bit hesitant as I feared I'd only swing the article to the opposite extreme of bias (not only do I really like his poems, I actually am personally acquainted with him--he's quite eccentric, but a pretty cool and brilliant guy nonetheless). Anyway, thanks again and keep up the good work! K. Lásztocska 17:25, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Psylocke-20050603013519041.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Psylocke-20050603013519041.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 09:13, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Message for RossF on Yevtushenko article

Per your edits (and note to me) on Yevtushenko. On the substance of the Soviet attitude to Babi Yar, I have left a note on the talk page for Yevtushenko, which I would encourage you to read and if you like respond to -- it is possible that you know more about this than I do. However, as regards your reading of the sentence as I edited it in the article, which you argued "doesn't make sense", the problem only arises if you fail to realize that "the antisemitism" can be read as the second object of the verb "denounced". Balzac

Ross, per Wikipedia:Lead section, it's not required to cite everything in the lead of an article. The lead is just a summary of the body text. All the claims are cited when they appear in the body text of the article. The article Honore de Balzac recently went through a detailed review and the Featured Article process, and there was consensus that the lead section is okay. Thanks for your attention to detail, but in this case, the article is already okay. Cheers! --JayHenry (talk) 02:53, 17 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

Orphaned non-free media (Image:New X-Men 35.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:New X-Men 35.jpg.

Thank you. BJBot (talk) 08:30, 24 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Quick request

In the future, if you could use {{Film}} instead of {{FilmsWikiProject}}, I'd be very grateful. Although the latter one automatically redirects to the former, it has been deprecated, and we're trying to phase out its usage as task force tagging slowly occurs over the next year or so. Knowing that it's not being added to new articles would put me greatly at ease. Thanks! Girolamo Savonarola (talk) 04:06, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Wolverine: The End

I have nominated Wolverine: The End, an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Wolverine: The End. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. Please discuss your reversion at Alternate versions of Wolverine

Hi. Per WP:CONSENSUS please do not blindly revert without discussion or even an adequate edit summary. It would help if you posted a reason for your reversion at the talk page of the article in question so that we can better understand each other and build a consensus, using appropriate guidance and policy to inform that position. Vulcan lead

Really, it is ridiculous. This is a fictional character published by a real-life company. There's no reason to get into jargon like "the Marvel Universe" when saying he "appears in comic books published by Marvel Comics" gets the same point across in a more general, direct way. The footnote is completely unnecessary. WesleyDodds (talk) 23:29, 19 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please explain why you’ve reverted my addition of well-sourced information? I am sure it is a very good reason based on sound references. Also, you should not just revert without providing an edit summary. Per wikipedia guidelines, your edit summary is only suitable for vandalism. --Merbabu (talk) 22:45, 16 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have included your outdated and added more info and explanation. Yet you’ve removed anything I added, ie better sources and explanations. Can you please elaborate on why my info is not includable but yours is superior – ie, please explain what is written in your source.[5]

Could you please verify for me the Petersberg Times reference. It appears from my reckoning that it was you who added it. This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Gianni Rodan, and it appears to include a substantial copy of http://www.ballettheateroflancaster.org/chippolino/chippolino.html. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. More Sources Templates

Please be a bit more constructive and actually say where you think sources are needed by tagging a section or specific statements or describe what is wrong with the current state of references. Generic, broad templates like this with no discussion aren't much help. It's like going around putting {{better}} [This articles needs to be better] on articles and expecting that to be of any help to regular contributors of that article. --TM 07:37, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Gambit-20050531074756286.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 16:13, 22 August 2008 (UTC). While you're correct that for most Wikipedia articles one should improve the article rather than deleting content, this is not so for biographies of living people, in which there is a Wikipedia policy to delete unsourced facts.  X  S  G  16:01, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Question (Eckerd College)

This evening I performed an extensive delete/revert on material recently added to Eckerd College's article. Some of the newer material could be worked back in, but other parts, as you correctly noted, are little more than unsubstantiated opinions. Maybe they can be cleaned up as well. I don't have much time for editing this article, but I'll do what I can. - Eckwriter (talk) 07:25, 30 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion of Nekode

A tag has been placed on Nekode requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Craig Crawford finally gets it

Thanks for your patience today. I finally took the time to read your rules (especially on autobiography) and now get it. So I will check with you guys in future if there is anything more elaborate than fixing links or citations. Craigcrawford (talk) 20:58, 15 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Multiple Reference Question

Here's something I have not been able to figure out from your help pages. When citing a link in References more than once, what is the code to use to avoid having duplicating the same link several times in References. In other words, if a single Reference is used more than once, how do you code it in the text so that it refers back to the original reference without creating a duplicate listing in References. That is what's happened in my bio at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Craig_Crawford. Thanks. Craig Crawford (talk) 00:53, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

thanks much, good instructions, that worked. Craig Crawford (talk) 19:04, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Overuse of direct quotes

Hi, RossF18. I just reworded a large section of the kvass article, because it was essentially a collection of sentences taken directly from a source. I noticed that you were the one who added this information, so I would like to remind you that direct quotes should be used sparingly. It is fine to take ideas and facts from external sources (with proper attribution, of course), but you should express these ideas and facts in your own words. Please let me know if you have any questions. —Bkell (talk) 20:32, 1 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Opinion Requested

Hi, I'd like to hear you opinion on the following debate. (Merging Alternate Versions of Characters)04:01, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Excuse Me

Hi, you've chnaged alot of things that I have eited saying it was wrong. You don't know the first thing about me. i do read the comics and I know the comics very well and I know that the current story in X-Men (vol.2) has nothing to do with Endangered Species at all. Endangered Species is a sepeate stroy starring Beast and his quest to find a cure for M-Day, nothing to do with what is going on the current X-Titles, Endangered Species is just stuck on the end of of the X-Titles. So before you go saying to me that I don't know what's happening with comics get your facts right first. Thelaststand304:01, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Maybe a little poking around next time before invoking the "v" word.

Jal11497 lifted the entire section and moved it to it's own article. Not a bad idea considering how long the base article is. They just erred in following through with {{main}}, apparently just pasting the one from the Alt version section and forgetting to update the target.

Emma Frost

Don't worry--it's not an issue that will make me angry or something. I think it's fun and interesting to debate these canon issues. In this case, I don't think the implication is a correct assumption nor do I think the statement itself is appropriate since it's a statement of fact about what could possibly be sort of maybe a fact sorta kinda. So don't be worried about giving your input. I'm certainly not going to take it as an argument unless you're clearly intending to be offensive, haha. Cheers! :)Luminum (talk) 04:41, 8 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yevtushenko

Hi, Ross: I don't quite get this edit: [6]. Perhaps we could discuss. Are there actually any detractors of Yevtushenko who deny that he is one of the most well-known Russian poets? The reason why I disagreed with quoting the Washington Times writer is that Y's "dissident career" is extremely controversial – Vladimir Voinovich, for example, writes that Yevtushenko actively opposed dissidents like himself, to the point of ruining the reputation of writers openly hostile to the Soviet Union's system, while himself at times criticizing various Soviet policies but not the Soviet government itself per se (or so he writes in his 1990s memoirs - published in 1994 as Zamysel). Clearly this is a controversial opinion – the Washington Times' writer's opinion that you've reincluded is suitable for the criticism but injects imbalance in the lede section, which cannot summarize all of the critical opinions and evaluations of Yevtushenko's political activity. I am not, however, aware of anyone challenging Yevtushenko's stature as the preeminent living Russian poet today: his reputation in both the West and at home is pretty large – at least this much seems uncontested, and, as I see it from my perspective, deserves to be mentioned in the lede, the point of which is to stake out a claim for the subject's notability in a concise / neutral form. Do you agree? PasswordUsername (talk) 14:51, 16 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

still new to Wiki

Hi,

I do not appreciate you unjustifiably changing my contributions without giving me a chance to finish what I am up to. I am in fact an employee of the Hinkler Hall of Aviation and the information currently cited from the sources below is both incomplete and inconsistent. If you had taken the time to read the Hinkler talk page you would notice I made mention of who I am and my intentions to have this information cited.

Information inconsistent with the true facts of the Hinkler story include but are not limited to

The Australian Dictionary of Biography article on Hinkler (complied by E.P (TED) Wixted)

Any information sourced from "frenchviss.edu" or "monashcite.edu"

The closest to consistent information on Hinkler is information compiled by the Hinkler House Memorial Research Association.

So please, allow me to finish my works, referencing will come in time, I've read about your "wikikine" and I will tell you right now you do Wikipedia disservice jumping all over new contributors like this. If you want to assist in making this information as concurrent and up to date as possible, you can add me to MSN to discuss your contributions and knowledge of this person.

Asking for help. I thought the article was making some progress on non-controversial areas but it was only because Kurdo777 had taken a break. Do you have any recommendations? --BoogaLouie (talk) 22:01, 3 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
