Anybody can edit; just go to an article and edit it. Be Bold, but please don't put silly stuff in - it will be removed very quickly, and will annoy people. Besides that, you shouldn't feel nervous or anything about a good-willed contribution. If you're concerned, talk to us. Play in your user area. For example, create User:Repjohncarter/test. If you feel nervous, feel free to talk to us. When you're ready, start your first article using the Article Wizard. You don't HAVE to use it, but for your first article it really helps. It should be about something well-known, and it will need references. If you'd like more guidance, you guessed it, talk to us. I noticed that you've made an addition to the John Carter (Texas) article by adding an external link to the article subject's official website. This is great! On the other hand I can't also but take notice of your screen name. I don't know if you're actually John Carter or a staffer but before you start doing too much work it might behove you to look into some of the policies that wikipedia has concerning ownership of articles, biographies of living people and conflicts of interest. The usual automated template I'd place on a talk in this situation would be found here but I wanted to offer a personal heads up.
