Sculptor - work on Shell Mex House

I see you have twice added info about the sculptor who did work on Shell Mex House and that sculptor is a relation of yours. Adding this information requires a reliable source WP:RS not just your word that your grandfather did this work. Please do not add this information again without providing the requested reliable source. If you need any help let me know. Robynthehode (talk) 12:30, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I have tried twice. I am not a regular user, just for this entry. There are no sources that I can find. Most of my grandfathers records were destroyed along with his studio in WW2. I do have the press photos he had copies of. These show him on the Shell Mex House roof with his sculptures and I'm presuming they were used as press releases. He was president of the Royal Society of British Sculptors from 1949 to 1954, https://sculpture.gla.ac.uk/view/person.php?id=msib2_1222424830

It's unfortunate that as a well respected and much accomplished sculptor with many works that are documented but many that aren't he is largely written out of history. The works exist and he did them but there are no sources that say so apart from some of his own writings and photographs.--Peopleclub (talk) 14:26, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

That's unfortunate. Are there no records from the Royal Society of British Sculptors or can you contact them? If you read WP:RS the accepted sources are strict in one way but various types are sources are acceptable. Are there sources from Shell Mex? I wouldn't want to be the one to make a final decsion about inclusion of your information. I'm just another editor trying to edit according to Wikipedia protocols and much of what I do is trying to stop irrelevant information being posted in articles. This seems clearly not to be irrelevant. You may have already done so but maybe dig a bit deeper. If your grandfather was president of Royal Society of British Sculptors then consider adding his contribution to that organisation to the article. If you have original material that clearly states he did the sculptures on Shell Mex House consider whether you would want to upload these somewhere so they can be used as a source (the press release photo could be uploaded to Wikimedia - there are copyright requirements - essentially you would be putting these into the public domain). I don't know what else to suggest. Robynthehode (talk) 14:43, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This is the source from Historic England but not sure how to add it https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1236752--Peopleclub (talk) 14:34, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I have looked at the Historic England source. Is your grandfather WCH King? If so this source is fine. If you like I can add the source for you. Robynthehode (talk) 14:46, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I have corrected the source you added so it conforms to Wikipedia standards. Hope that is okay. At least there's some record in that article for your grandfather's work. Robynthehode (talk) 14:53, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That is really good of you, many thanks. I will be posting the photographs on Wikimedia. All the best.--Peopleclub (talk) 14:58, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
If you don't know how to add the photo to the Shell Mex article let me know and I'll do it. Mention that here or on my talk page. Robynthehode (talk) 15:03, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know how to add it.--Peopleclub (talk) 15:24, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Do you mean you don't know how to add it to Wikimedia or to the article? Robynthehode (talk) 15:26, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know how to add it to the article--Peopleclub (talk) 15:28, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. Just let me know the name of the photo file here and I'll add it to the article. So 'nameofphoto'.jpg or whatever it is. Robynthehode (talk) 15:31, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It's W C H KING Shell Mex 1932.jpeg So then I upload it?--Peopleclub (talk) 15:35, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Have you uploaded it to Wikimedia? It needs to be located there for me to add it to the article. Here's the link if you haven't done that already https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Main_Page Robynthehode (talk) 15:38, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:W_C_H_KING_Shell_Mex_1932.jpg ok, here it is and I appreciate the help!--Peopleclub (talk) 15:53, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. I'll add it to the article within the next 24 hours Robynthehode (talk) 16:08, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Okay added. Let me know if you can see it and it looks okay Robynthehode (talk) 16:21, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It looks great, thank you so much. I noticed in close up he is wearing a newspaper on his head as well as his best suit! Clearly not there in the throes of work but doing his bit for the photo shoot. Reading some of his writings he did many sculptures on high buildings which he did carve in situ. They don't make them like that any more. Very grateful for your hard work and we've done the man proud!--Peopleclub (talk) 17:30, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Glad I could help. Always good to have lesser-known people recognised. Robynthehode (talk) 17:35, 1 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
